New Enemy
New Enemy
Alexander frowned and asked with displeasure, "Charlotte, who is he?"
Charlotte didn't feel the strange atmosphere between them at all and excitedly introduced, "Let me introduce you. He's Elliot James, my classmate."
Then, Charlotte introduced Elliot, "Elli, they are my brothers. The eldest is Alexander Miller, you can call him Alexander. The second brother is Noah Steele."
Elliot looked at the two who looked exactly the same but had different last names.
"Alexander Miller? Same last name as you?" he asked with a meaningful tone.
Charlotte nodded vigorously, "Yes, he's my brother! Of course, we have the same last name!"
Elliot asked with deep meaning, "Are you related by blood?"
This question deeply hurt Alexander and Noah.
Alexander walked over, angrily separated their tightly held hands, and pulled Charlotte behind him, "Whether she and I have a blood relationship or not is none of your business. I'm asking you, why are you here? It's seven o'clock now, shouldn't you be at your own home?"
His words startled Charlotte. She looked at Elliot in shock.
There was no ripple in Elliot's heart, but seeing her concerned look, he pretended to feel uncomfortable and lowered his head.
A sense of inexpressible sadness spread from him.
Charlotte immediately went over, protecting him like a hen protecting her chick, "Alex, you're too much. How could you speak to him like that? It was Mommy and I who brought him home last night!"
Seeing Charlotte scold him for another boy, Alexander widened his eyes, looking hurt.
"You scolded me for him? In your heart, is he already more important than me, your brother?"
Noah also felt an unprecedented sense of crisis.
But in order not to upset Charlotte, he took the initiative to step forward, extending his hand to Elliot, "Hello, I'm Noah, Charlotte's brother! Nice to meet you! Charlotte is our only sister, so we tend to be a bit overprotective. Hope you don't mind."
Elliot glanced at the hand he reached out and hid behind Charlotte.
Charlotte hurriedly said, "Brother, he's just shy and might not be familiar with you yet. He'll get better when he's familiar!"
Alexander was about to explode. For the first time, he felt like he didn't belong in this family anymore. And the one replacing his position was the seemingly weak but actually giving him a sense of complexity, Elliot James, in front of him.
Seeing the increasingly tense atmosphere between them, Samantha smiled and walked over, breaking the deadlock, "Alexander, Noah, have you had breakfast? Do you want anything to eat? Let me make it for you."
Alexander was full of anger, sat down on the sofa, crossed his arms, pouted, and said nothing.
Charlotte, being straightforward, didn't notice he was already angry, thinking he had already had breakfast, so she said to Elliot, "Elli, since my brothers aren't eating, let's go eat quickly! We still have to go to kindergarten later!"
Elliot's eyes flashed with a hint of satisfaction as he weakly nodded and followed Charlotte to the dining table.
Seeing them go to have breakfast like that, completely disregarding himself, Alexander's eyes reddened with grievance.
Charlotte had changed.
The Charlotte who used to stick to him every day, who revolved around him, was gone.
For her now, he had become dispensable.
In her heart and eyes, there was only this detestable Elliot.
Sobbing...
Thinking of these, his heart felt like it had been hollowed out, empty and painful.
Noah also sensed Charlotte's change.
The Charlotte who used to be lively and adorable, who put them first, was quietly undergoing a transformation.
It made sense.
She was only four years old.
Forgetting someone was easy.
Likewise, falling for someone was easy.
They were not around her for long periods. Maybe at first, she would feel uncomfortable, even sad, but gradually, she would surely forget about them and grow fond of those who were close to her.
Like Elliot.
Samantha saw through Alexander's and Noah's thoughts, walked over, rubbed their heads gently, and said softly, "Elli is Charlotte's good friend, and you are Charlotte's brothers. She can't possibly have no friends in her life! Why are you getting jealous?"
In short.
Friends can be replaced.
But brothers are fixed, irreplaceable.
If it were in the past, these words might have comforted them.
But now, everyone knew they had no blood relation with Charlotte.
Even being brothers was just nominal.
It could be changed just the same.
Samantha sighed helplessly, "Alright, don't be angry anymore! Let's go have breakfast together! There's Apple Pie and Tiramisu, your favorites! I bought them specially this morning."
Alexander had absolutely no appetite.
Noah was slightly better than him. He gently tugged at his clothes and gave him a look, "Let's go have breakfast! Look at Charlotte, she's enjoying her meal so much."
Alexander followed his gaze. He saw Charlotte happily eating breakfast while also serving food to Elliot.
Intimate behavior.
Deep affection.
Jealousy surged within him.
He shook with anger, but when Noah led him to the dining room, instead of sulking, he obediently sat down at the table.
Charlotte immediately grinned at him cheerfully, "Alex, these are all your favorite! Hurry up and eat."
After saying that, she handed him a piece of cake.
Though Alexander felt sour and jealous of Elliot's favoritism, when he saw Charlotte offering him the cake, he couldn't help but be moved. He glared fiercely at Elliot, then took a bite of the cake.
Elliot glanced at him with a smirk, seemingly unaware of his hostility, and calmly continued eating breakfast.
Noah looked deeply at Elliot. He realized this person was quite formidable. At such a young age, he was remarkably calm and composed. Unfazed by changes, he had the air of a great leader. He would surely accomplish great things in the future.
Charlotte meeting him, whether it was good or bad, remained uncertain.
After breakfast, Samantha looked at the two little ones who were still reluctant to leave, feeling a headache coming on.
"Aren't you going to kindergarten?" she asked.
Alexander shook his head, "No!"
Samantha was speechless, "Did your father know you came here?"
Alexander still shook his head, "He doesn't know. We forced the driver to bring us here!"
Luckily, they came today.
Otherwise, they would have another enemy competing for Charlotte's attention.
Samantha said, "If your father finds out, you'll be in trouble."
Alexander shrugged indifferently, "He can beat us to death. Then, I'll be relieved. It's better than not seeing you and Charlotte every day!"
Samantha felt a pang of sorrow in her heart. Tears welled up in her eyes. Just as she was about to say something, the doorbell rang.
Alexander and Noah both trembled, jumping up from the sofa and rushing into the room without a second thought, locking the door behind them.
Samantha: "???"
Charlotte blinked her watery eyes, looking puzzled.
Elliot glanced meaningfully at the closed door, a hint of darkness passing through his inscrutable eyes.
