Goodbye, My Mate

Chapter 134

Chapter 134

Leah's POV

The boat was swaying along the ocean waves in a tiny bay area on the far side of the dock.

As I approached, I saw bodies of soldiers floating up and down next to the boat.

"Did you kill all of them?" I stared at Darren.

He didn't answer and put Josephine, who was still unconscious, onto the berth inside the cabin.

I learned sailing from my Father, who used to be a Navy Admiral when he was young. So I swiftly unmoored and adjusted the sail.

Darren jumped into the water to push the boat offshore.

Then, he climbed up the broadside, soaked and wet like hell.

I grabbed a towel and handed it to him. He ignored it and walked straight into the cabin to check on Josephine.

I stood behind the wheel all by myself, looking at the burning shore of Medilan drifting away from us.

I could hear women weeping and children crying in the wind.

I shouldn't have come to Mediland. I shouldn't have been so stupid and arrogant to believe that I was able to resolve the situation in Mediland once and for all. I couldn't even untangle the threads of problems in my life, for Goddess's sake.

My mind raced fast as I was steering the wheel.

So far what I've learned -

Josephine has been brainwashed by Diego, the underground resistant army leader in Mediland. They somehow managed to train Josephine into a Femme Fatale, who managed to take away Alpha Dire's life. Now his paranoid, nasty boy tyrant son believes that I'm the one who's killed his father because I just happened to show up in the wrong place at the wrong time. Now the resistant army has somehow got access to the result of enforcement technology, changing young werewolves into headless running monsters. Darren seems to know the source of this abhorrent technology, but he just doesn't want to enlighten me. He's mad at me because I knocked his belove mate Josephine off to shut her up and I'm mad at him because of, well, everything.

So, what am I going to do? I'm going to ask Troy back to be in charge of my security. Or I'll ask for someone else from my brother Lucian. Anyway, I'm fed up with this stupid Batair thing. I have to find someone else to replace Darren.

I can't work with someone that I love and hate at the same time. I can cope with one emotion at a time, not both. Otherwise, I'll explode.

And I will have to talk to my Father. I need to talk to him about my weird dreams. I don't believe that his Kingdom is on the verge of doomsday, but it's always good to let him know before shit really happens.

And I will talk to Dr. Monk about Finn's condition. I don't care what he's going to do. He might as well remove Finn's head and replace it with a new one, I don't care, but he has to cure my beloved new boyfriend and implant some sanity into it.

And I will talk to Jalin and let him free Finn's brother Sak. If he refuses, I'll shout at him. If he agrees, I'll shout at him anyway, because he has been such a jerk to Finn.

And.

I will have to talk to Lucas. He needs to sign those damn divorce papers. I'll make him an offer that he can't refuse.

At exactly the same time, my phone rang.

I expected it to be one of the names that came across my mind, but it wasn't.

On my phone, the caller ID was written in big, bold letters -

Leonard.

My second brother Leo is calling me?!

I rubbed my eyes and tried to make sure that I didn't get it wrong.

It was Leo. My very reserved and talented second brother, who was three years older than me.

He never called me. Growing up, he hardly ever spoke to me. He was always busy running between labs or attending conferences. He didn't even show up at my wedding anniversary.

Why is he calling me now?!

Feeling confused, I picked up the call.

"Where are you, Leah?" Leo's detached, mechanical voice sounded shattered in the phone because of the poor reception on the sea.

"I'm on my way home," I replied. I wasn't ready to disclose too many details of my life to Leo.

After all, he was so distant that he almost looked like a complete stranger to me.

"Are you all by yourself?" Leo asked. There wasn't a single dash of emotion in his voice. It seemed that he wasn't interested in me at all, but he had to know my whereabouts.

"What's going on, Leo? Aren't you supposed to be attending a conference right now?" I said.

"Yes, I am," Leo replied in a detached voice. "But now I have to put it off because of you. Leah, we need to talk. Come to Redwood Mansion right now. I'll meet you there."

Located at a reclusive, hidden spot in the Phenix Mountains, Redwood Mansion was the residence of my great-grandfather. After my Father got the throne, he refurbished it and used it as one of his summer palaces.

Why would Leo ask me to go there?

I frowned.

Darren heard my conversation on the phone and walked out of the cabin, looking at me with inquiry.

"Whom you're talking to?" he asked.

"So you aren't alone after all, my little sister," Leo said in a taunting voice. He must have heard Darren's voice over the phone.

"Leo, listen. I can't go to the Redwood Mansion because I'm in great danger right now. I need to talk to a lot of people and straighten things out..."

"I saw it on the news. You've become the new VP of UniHealer." Leo's voice turned cold again. "You must be very busy right now. Do I need to take a number and wait in the lobby to see you?"

"Leo, you know that's not what I mean..." I said.

Leo interrupted me with a stern voice, "I hate talking to others because usually, it takes a lot of effort for me to figure out what they really mean. So let's make our conversation short and sweet. Leah, I'm not going to kill you, if that's bothering you. I hate people in our family, but you've always been kind to me. I would like to talk to you because I have all the answers that have been troubling you these days. Ask Jalin to escort you. Do not bring anyone else. I get nervous and agitated when I see more than two people at the same time."
