Goodbye, My Mate

Chapter 110

Chapter 110

Leah's POV

"Where is Finn, Lucas? If you dared to hurt him..." I said as I was walking upstairs along with Lucas and Mick.

"Leah, Finn isn't your possession. He's a grown-up man and he's got his own free will. Has it ever occurred to you that he might not like you? He doesn't want to be with you at all?" Lucas' voice sounded detached.

I frowned and argued, "That's not possible! Finn's my best friend..."

"So what's the last name of your best friend? What happened to him in the past? Why has he got genetically modified? Why does he have a phobia of soldiers? Is Sak Doyle really his brother? Have you ever thought of these questions?" Lucas asked in a stern voice.

"That's for me to figure out! I can't figure it out if I can't be with him! You've taken him away from me. You've made your point. Now Jorah is back. It's time for you to return Finn to me!"

Lucas couldn't conceal his disgust when he heard Finn's name over and over again. "You just don't understand, do you? Finn doesn't love you. He is afraid of you. He might hate you. He is confused right now. What if one day, after his dark past surfaces in his chaotic fucking mind, he decides to strangle you when you're asleep? He's sick, Leah. He needs help. That's why I have to lock him up and make sure that he won't hurt you as well as himself. You should thank me for this arrangement, Leah."

I couldn't hold my anger anymore. I pushed him into a storage room and locked the door, pressing him against the wall.

Lucas looked excited and said, "Leah, I thought you would wait..."

"Shut up and listen to me!" I roared in a low voice, punching the door next to his head. "You don't have any right to arrange anything for me! I don't want to be your wife and possession anymore! I have my own business and I'm working very hard to stand still and hold my ground fast in this filthy business world that is populated by Alpha males. I'm trying so hard. Can't you see it? Do you know that someone is plotting to kill me? They sent people to jam my car, trying to fake a car accident. They sneaked into my office, hiding in the dark, trying to ambush me. I threw myself off a bridge the other day. Can't you see how desperate I am?! I've got too many things on my plate and you just keep adding insults to the injury! I really can't do this..."

The more I spoke, the faster my speech became. In the end, I couldn't control myself anymore. I covered my face and glided down against the wall.

Then, I sat on the ground and covered my face, starting to weep.

Lucas took a deep breath, lowered down, and sat next to me.

He wrapped his arm around my shoulder and pulled me toward him.

I pushed him away. He pulled me back. I pushed him away again, but he pulled me back harder until I stopped struggling and cried my eyes out in his arms.

"You're such a big asshole!" I wept and said. "It's all because of you! Damian betrayed me and told Mick that I was in Mediland when his father was killed. Now Mick believes that I killed his father..."

"Shush, Leah. I understand. I totally understand." Lucas placed his chin on top of my head, trying to hold me more tightly.

I pushed him away and wiped the tears from my face. "You don't understand! If you understood, you wouldn't be chasing me around like this! What is this?! Are you a three-year-old or something? Chasing girls around to get their attention? Can't you just see that for the first time in my life, I finally become independent?! I'm about to become a successful businesswoman... And you just keep showing up everywhere I go, dragging me down! I don't want to be dragged down by you anymore! Just sign the divorce papers and move on with your life! Go look for your second chance and do not ever let me see your face again!"

Having said that, I stood up, kicked the storage door open, and walked out of the storage room.

It took me a lot of effort and courage to finally let those words out of my chest.

When you're living your life, sometimes you get too involved and engaged, which makes you fail to see the truth of your life. And when you realize the gravity of reality, it's always too late.

I knew it was too late, but being late was better than being dead.

I walked into the lavatory and cleaned the mess on my face. Thanks to Moon Goddess, I wasn't wearing any make-up.

Just when I was cleaning my make-up, I felt a strange chill behind my back.

I turned back and no one was behind me.

I looked around to make sure that there was no one in the lavatory. All of a sudden, all the lights were gone in the lavatory.

I immediately switched to fight-or-flight mode, rushing toward the door.

To my surprise, the door was locked.

I didn't remember locking up the door when I got into the lavatory.

I turned back and pressed my back against the wall, staring at the complete darkness in front of me.

I knew there was something in the darkness and it was looking at me.

"Who are you and what do you want? Show yourself to me!" I commanded in my Lycan voice.

The creature in the darkness flinched.

Then, before I could scream, all the lights were back.

I opened my mouth to gasp more air, and I found out that I was literally out of breath.

At that time, I felt a loud bang behind my back. I jumped up as my heart jumped out of my throat.
