Chapter 106
Chapter 106
Leah's POV
"And now... The best bit of tonight! The children from Skagen City Orphanage want to express their gratitude by performing a dance for all of our distinguished guests tonight!" the host announced on the stage.
Several children, dressed up like little angels, walked on the stage. The light dimmed, and they started to sing and dance to the music.
They were so adorable. My eyes welled up.
"Do you like children, Miss Lewyn?" Gean leaned toward me and asked.
"Yeah." I nodded, wiping the tears off the corner of my eyes. "These kids... They're so innocent. But when they grow up, they have to put up with bullshits like Alpha Kyle and the mayor. I don't think they will stand a chance."
"With our support, they'll turn out to be fine, Miss Lewyn," Gean said. "I grew up being an orphan. I'm pretty capable of dealing with bullshits."
I burst into laughter.
"It's nice to have you for company tonight, Gean," I said.
"The pleasure is always mine, Miss Lewyn," Gean said in a tender voice. Then, he took a pause, looked over my shoulder, and said, "Ah, talking about bullshits."
I lifted my eyes and saw a man walking into the ballroom, being followed by a line of men.
"Mick Toussaint? He's out?" I frowned.
Mick was Clara's cousin. He tried to abduct me but ended up taking Laura away from the club. I thought he had been locked up in jail.
"Yeah, Alpha Dire bailed him out a week before he was assassinated," Gean said. "He's really a pain in the ass. Now he's the Alpha of Rock Growlers Pack."
"Mick? Seriously?" I mumbled. "He was a psychopath, pervert combined with a pile of shit. They can't find anyone more suitable for Alpha in their pack?"
Their pack used to be the Keeper Pack of my Father. I expected it to be a bit more accountable.
"Well, let's just say that he's got a really hardcore mother. His mother, Jessica Fay, who used to be the second wife of Alpha Dire, locked up all his brothers and sisters as soon as his father was assassinated. 50 minutes later, her only son became the Alpha of the most powerful pack in the South. It doesn't really look like a coincidence for me," Gean said.
I had never met Mick's mother before. But I heard Rosalie mention her name several times.
Even a bitch like Rosalie was afraid of Jessica, so I could take a guess of what kind of woman Jessica was.
Mick took his seat a few tables away from me.
As I was enjoying the children's performance, I could feel that he was staring at me with malice in the dark.
After the performance, the music started to play. Everyone was encouraged to dance with their partner in the ballroom.
All of a sudden, the music was loud, the beats were catchy, and the dance floor was crowded.
Amongst the dancers, Gean and I stood out.
He was a great dancer and the way he moved was fluid and graceful. He seemed to be smitten with me. As we danced, we talked and laughed.
The chemistry between me and Gean was undeniable.
But suddenly, Alpha Mick approached us out of nowhere. He looked different from what he looked in the past. He was dark and sinister-looking. His powerful aura seemed to have sent shivers down the spines of the people around him.
He approached me and grabbed my hand, pulling me away from Gean.
His grip was tight and I winced in pain.
I looked up at him with my eyes narrowing. I wasn't afraid of this asshole. But I was confused why would he do something like this to me.
"You look beautiful tonight, Miss Lewyn. You and your gay friend look really adorable," Mick hissed. "Do your gay friend want to step into the adult film industry? I know someone who's really good at doing gay porn. Your gay friend might suffer for a bit, but I think a filthy bitch like him just doesn't seem to mind the pain."
"Are you done with this nonsense?" I stared at him and asked in a cold voice. "I almost thought that once you become Alpha, you will at least pretend to be decent."
"What do you think I'm doing right now, Miss Lewyn? You don't see me ripping your dress off and fucking the brain out of you. Trust me, I am pretending very hard to be decent," Mick said.
"Cut the bullshit, Mick. What do you want?" I asked.
"Nothing. I'm just wondering, if you have killed my father, by any chance?"
My expression changed. My eyes widened in surprise.
“I beg your pardon?” I said, my voice steady and confident.
“You've heard me, Miss Lewyn. I'm asking you. Did you kill my father?” His voice was laced with anger.
My face contorted with confusion as I confronted him, “No, Mick. I didn’t kill your father. I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
"Ah, Miss Lewyn. You know, when I met you for the first time, you were pushed to the ground by Clara. I witnessed the whole process, and I was surprised that you didn't protest or justify yourself. I thought to myself, this girl must be dumb. But later on, I figured out that you weren't dumb. You were just playing dumb. Just like Clara said, you're a fucking lying bitch. Do you know what I would do to a fucking lying bitch?"
"I didn't kill your father, Mick. You're making a fool of yourself by accusing me of killing your father and letting the real killer get away with it," I said.
Mick didn't believe me. He said, "You're lying. Miss Lewyn. I can see it in your eyes. You killed my father, and now you’re denying it.”
I tried to pull away, but Mick's grip was too strong.
“Let me go,” I said, my voice trembling.
Mick laughed with a cruel and menacing sound. “I don’t think so. You’re going to pay for what you’ve done. You’re going to regret crossing me.”
I felt a chill running down my spine. I had no idea what this fucking lunatic man was capable of, but I knew that he was dangerous.
"Do you think that I'm stupid, Miss Lewyn? Do you think I came to you and accused you of killing my father without any concrete evidence?" Mick asked with hatred fires in his eyes.
"Damian told me everything. He told me that you showed up in Mediland on the day that my father was killed. You were soaking wet as if you were swimming in the ocean. My father was killed while he was fishing on a boat in the ocean!" Mick hissed.
