Chapter 26: I HAVE A DAUGHTER
Chapter 26: I HAVE A DAUGHTER
Vino stood looking at Skylar's retreating back with regret and longing on his face. He still didn't know how to react when he's with her? He fears that she might leave him, that is why he's behaving coldly with her. If only he knew, Elise would show up. He might have warned her earlier.
"Vino!" Elise called to him, forcing a smile on her face as she ran up to wrap her hands around him in excitement. She gazed into his brown eyes, remembering the time she had spent with him.
"I miss you so much" Elise drew pouting up at Vino who ignored her but kept her hands wrapped around his body which was shocking to Elise. She always knew Vino hated her but she loves him and will do anything to get him. She will never allow that sly bitch to get him.
"What do you want?" Vino asked her, running his hands through his dark hair as his brown eyes sought hers. Trying to understand what she was doing here? He has gotten tired of chasing her away from him. He needed to seek this out before she confronted Skylar and told her their secrets.
"Nothing. I miss you and came to check up on you" Elise answered as she ran her hands down his chest enjoying the feel of his silky hairs on her hands. Elise was surprised to see that Vino wasn't doing anything to stop her. Does this mean that he had finally accepted her?
"Why are you doing this to me, Elise? Isn't it enough that I take care of our daughter? Don't you feel guilty about all of these?" Vino whispered as he waved his hands frantically between them. He still regretted his action that night but what to do when Elise called him three months later that their night together had brought forth a daughter.
He badly wanted to have her terminate the pregnancy but he didn't want to kill an innocent child. He had let her keep it with the promise of being an anonymous father to his daughter. He still wasn't sure if she had told her husband about it yet?
Elise dropped her hands angrily from his body and moved to step away from him. She paced around the office lost in thought. The sound of her ringing tone cut her from her thoughts as she bent to pick it from her bag before looking away to receive the call while Vino watched curiously.
"Hello! What?" Elise screamed out loud but a faint smile plastered her face as she turned to look at Vino.
"Fine. I will be there. Thank you" Elise continued her conversation hurriedly before hanging up. She came to stand in front of Vino with a smile on her face having found the solution to her problems.
"We can finally be together, Vino. That old man is dead," Elise exclaimed excitedly.
She was glad to hear that her husband was dead. He had spared her the headache of having to do it herself. She had endured a loveless marriage because of money! Now, she can finally be with the man she loves and her beautiful daughter.
"What?" Vino exclaimed in shock. He still didn't know how far Elise could go to achieve her goals. He hoped she didn't have a hand in Mr. Fabio's death.
"Don't worry, I didn't kill him. Now, you won't have any excuse for us not to be together" Elise said smiling at Vino. She was glad and thankful that everything was working in her favour. Just now Vino had sent away that girl and even her husband is dead. Double celebration.
"But_____" Vino paused. He needed to play this with caution. He can't have her targeting Skylar.
"We can't be together" Vino explained gently hoping she will accept "We don't love each other. Let's leave it as it was before. I promise to continue supporting you"
"Are you doing this because of that woman?" Elise asked him with an edge to her voice. She turned to look at Camille who was pegged at the door watching each of them curiously.
"I can't believe you'll say that. Are you not going to take responsibility for your daughter"?
"I am," Vino shouted at her. He saw her eyes widening in shock and struggle to bring down in anger. He doesn't like raising his voice at a woman. His mother has always taught him to respect women, that they were fragile.
"Look. I promise to take care of our daughter. But I can never marry you"
"I knew it. Camille told me that you've got it bad for that wench but you know what, she doesn't know who she's up against" Elise shouted into the quiet office which was now empty as everyone had gone home.
"Camille" Vino exclaimed as his eyes shut up to glare at the backstabbing woman at the door who was avoiding his eyes.
Vino clenched his fists in anger, with seething teeth he walked to the door and opened it. He turned to stare at Elise, with a smile he called out "Did she also tell you that I had been fucking her. And we were about to get married. Maybe I should reconsider that idea again"
"Camille!!!"
Was Vino last word he heard Elise scream before she chased Camille down the stairs leaving him to chuckle behind their back.
He shakes his head in wonder. Life, such a big lesson to learn! One woman was here trying to have him marry her, while the other, who calls herself Elise's friend, was sleeping with him too. That's why he had always disliked them. Only Skylar, a simple, innocent woman, appeals to him. He could never imagine her doing that to anyone.
The woman who remained single for a year after losing a boyfriend and child. He loves that kind of woman, not the one that was ready to jump into marriage with him without a slight sympathy for her dead husband.
Vino gets into his car and drives into the night, his mind in turmoil. He still didn't know how he was going to tell Skylar that secret. No, he can't do it! She will leave him. He can't bear to lose her!
Vino pulled the car into the front of Olympus night club where his brother and Danny were waiting for him. He got out of the car and threw the keys at the valet who was surprised at his attitude that night since he was humble and always joked with him before going into the nightclub.
Vino ignored him and walked into the club. He scans the crowd of bodies dancing under the dim-lit for his brother and Danny but he couldn't see them. He was about to put a call through to Michael when he glimpses him at the VIP section of the bar.
Vino smiled and brushed past the bodies on his way, he took the stairs in two ignoring the greetings of the heavy-built bouncer guiding the VIP section. He stepped into the VIP section where Michael and Danny were discussing among themselves.
"Hey!" Vino called to them before slumping down heavily on the couch exhausted from his argument with Elise.
"Are you alright?" Michael asked Vino before turning to stare at him in shock. He looks so tired and has aged a lot since he last saw him. He hoped he wasn't having issues with his new girl.
Vino nodded and signalled to the waitress who almost ran over to where they sat. "What can I offer you, sir?" The lady called to Vino, getting her notebook, ready to take down his order.
"Whatever they are having" Vino replied waving her off as he nodded to his brother and friend who was watching him with curiosity on their faces.
"Why?" Vino turned to his brother who was still staring at him like he's expecting him to spill the truth.
"What's wrong with you? You are not being yourself" Danny interjected as he dropped the glass of wine, he was having onto the glass table. He folded his hands across his chest and rested his back against the couch while they waited for Vino's response.
Vino sighed heavily as he looked down on the floor. Suddenly his shoes seemed more fascinating to him than what he was about to tell them. He hopes they won't judge him "It's Elise," Vino told them with a heavy sigh on his lips.
"What about her?" Michael asks him, his eyes hardening in anger as he leaned across the table to catch whatever Vino was saying.
"She came back to threaten Skylar," Vino replied, shrugging. He had told his brothers all about Elise Fabio and the child she has for him but he hasn't brought himself to say anything to his parents. He knew they wouldn't approve of his relationship with Elise.
"What?" Both Danny and Michael screamed as the enormity of what Vino told them registered in their brain.
"Damn! That bitch" Danny cursed loudly as he reached out to take a sip of the wine in his glass hoping that it would calm the rising anger in him.
Michael ignored Danny's words. One thing was paramount in his mind and he needed to get it off his chest. He wouldn't want Vino to make the same mistake he almost did with Nina "Is Skylar aware of your past with Elise?" Michael asked his brother, watching him curiously as he took in whatever subtle sign he made.
"No. I don't think I will ever be able to tell her. I can't lose her," Vino laments bitterly. He was moved to tears. He had never loved anyone as he did to Skylar. He wouldn't know what to do if Skylar should leave him. She shouldn't know about it!
"Why? Don't you think she deserves to know?" Michael asked him as he turned to look at Danny silently asking him to say something. He wouldn't want Vino to lose a good and decent lady-like Skylar.
"Michael is right, you know. You can't judge the lady yet. She has to know about your daughter" Danny said, shrugging and avoiding his gaze as soon as he saw the murderous look in Vino's eyes.
"And what should I do if she decides to leave me? Huh" Vino screamed at them. He was angry that they weren't seeing things from his end. It was just as he had feared, they were judging him.
"Nothing. You do nothing" Michael shouted in frustration. He could see that Vino had made up his mind not to tell Skylar about it.
"I can't do that. I love her so much" Vino exclaimed. He was embarrassed to say that to his brothers. He hasn't even told Skylar yet because he was afraid that she might not love him back. Vino gulped down his glass of wine and requested more.
He needed to get drunk tonight. He wanted to be numb to all these pains in his heart.
Michael sighs heavily. He had always known that Vino loved Skylar and he wouldn't want his brothers to end such a perfect relationship with his hands. He nodded to help them "Are you inviting her over to the party tomorrow?" Michael asks his brother with guarded eyes.
"Yes. Mom wanted her to come. I will do that tomorrow," Vino answered, shrugging. Left to him, he wouldn't have invited her but his mom has specifically asked that he did and he couldn't disappoint his mother who had taken a liking to her.
"That's good. You need to tell her tomorrow before it too late"
"Michael is right. Who knows what Elise will do now that she is back?" Danny chirped in shrugging. He excused himself to go home after receiving a call from Lillian.
Michael also left an hour later after forcing a drunken Vino out of the bar. He drove him home and sent the driver to come pick the car at the club.
