Revenge with My Quadruplets

Chapter 117

Chapter 117

"Mr. Scott?" Emily called out softly.

Derek snapped back to reality and replied faintly, "I'll go grab your clothes from the bathroom." He rose, fetched the clothes, and placed them beside the bed. He pursed his lips and added, "Once you've changed, I'll take you to the hospital for a check-up."

Emily met his gaze. "No need, it's an old issue."

"It's better to get it checked, for peace of mind," Derek insisted, his voice warm and elegant, tinged with concern and affection.

Emily hesitated, momentarily caught off guard. It hadn't occurred to her that Derek's concern might be genuine. Yet, they hadn't known each other for long. Could someone truly fall in love so quickly?

"Why do I think he loves me? I must be crazy!" she thought.

Quickly dressing, Emily found the dress fitting her perfectly, as if tailored for her. She slipped on her shoes and quietly exited the room, catching a glimpse of Derek at the dining table with the four children, the housekeeper attending to them.

It was a heartwarming scene, a family of five, and for a moment, Emily felt a pang of longing to be a part of it...

She bit her lip and descended the stairs slowly.

After lunch, Derek drove Emily to the hospital without giving her a chance to refuse. The car journey was smooth, the gentle spring breeze wafting in.

"Mr. Scott, I don't need to go to the hospital. Just drop me downtown," Emily murmured softly.

Derek's grip tightened on the steering wheel. "Let's get the check-up done first. You can leave afterward. I'll wait for the results."

Emily remained silent, lips pursed.

Soon, they arrived at the Scott family's private hospital. Derek had already made arrangements, and a nurse promptly escorted them to the doctor's office.

Seated, Derek leaned in, his voice barely above a whisper. "She's been experiencing cramps for years, especially when she showers, it's debilitating. Can you conduct a comprehensive examination?"

The doctor adjusted his glasses. "Given these symptoms, there could be an underlying condition. We need to conduct a series of tests to ascertain the issue."

Emily frowned deeply. "Is that really necessary? I've had full body check-ups weekly at Kinnis, and they found nothing."

Derek looked at her earnestly. "The doctor mentioned your lips were turning purple; it might indicate a heart issue. It's best to be thorough."

"The results of some tests will take three days. You needn't come back. I'll personally deliver them to you," Derek reassured her softly.

Emily pursed her lips. Derek's concern for her well-being seemed genuine.

The full-body check-up took four to five hours.

As evening approached, Emily turned to Derek beside her. "Mr. Scott, thank you for today."

She hadn't expected Derek, the president of the Scott Group, to devote most of his day to accompany her for the checkup, which softened her heart that had initially been somewhat resistant.

"It's getting late. I'll head back first, Mr. Scott. Goodbye."

"Is that how you thank me?" Derek's thin lips quirked. "I'm hungry after a busy day."

She pursed her lips. "Then what would you like for dinner, and I'll treat you."

Derek said, his gaze gentle. "I know a good restaurant near the hospital. Shall we try it?"

"Okay, let's go."

The restaurant wasn't far, so they walked directly there. As the night descended, the dark sky twinkled with a few stars. Walking down the street with Derek, Emily felt an unprecedented emotion. She actually wished that this road could go on forever...

How could she entertain such thoughts when she had only known this man for a short time, having met him only a few times...

"Watch out!"

A car sped by, and Derek quickly wrapped his arms around Emily's slender waist, pulling her into his strong embrace. Her face collided with his chest, and she heard his heart thumping. Looking up in dismay, she found Derek's face inches from hers...

Her heart nearly leaped out of her throat.

Derek's hand rubbed her lower back as he leaned in. Emily forgot to step back or pull away; she just watched as his lips descended and covered her lips.

His lips were icy cold, but his breath was hot, blazing to the core. Her legs went weak, and instinctively, her arms hooked around his neck.

"Beep beep!"

The ear-piercing sound of a car horn snapped Emily out of her trance.

"You..." She took a step back.

Derek, however, held her tighter. "Emily, I want you to be mine."

Emily's mind was in turmoil. What remained of her sanity reminded her that Derek had a wife and child; she couldn't get involved. But moments ago, he had kissed her!

"Mr. Scott, I need some space. Please don't follow me!"

Struggling out of Derek's arms, she turned and ran.

Emily’s words echoed in Derek’s mind like a haunting spell.

Four years ago, after Emily said those words, she disappeared and couldn't be found, no matter how hard he tried...

This time, he wouldn't let the tragedy repeat itself.

Derek followed, maintaining a cautious distance of about ten meters.

Emily walked until she reached a relatively less crowded boulevard, where she finally realized that Derek was still following her.

Glancing back, she met his dark eyes, filled with a myriad of emotions—amorous, longing, reluctant, fond...

She even wondered if she and this man had known each other before. If so, why did he act as if they had never met?

Emily's heart was in turmoil, and she hurried home with faster steps. Fortunately, her apartment wasn't far, and in less than twenty minutes, she reached the bottom of her building. Glancing back, she saw Derek still following, far behind.

At this juncture, Derek was standing just over ten meters from the apartment.

Emily turned and headed upstairs, not daring to stand on her bedroom balcony and look down, but observing from the darkness of her living room balcony. She watched Derek linger downstairs for a few minutes before departing while engaged in a phone call.

Finally, she breathed a sigh of relief and leaned against the glass window, releasing a silent exhale.

Emily pondered why Derek was so kind to her and why those four kids were so fond of her.

In her three years at Kinnis, she had never encountered such overt yet inexplicable affection.

Pushing aside her thoughts, she began to tidy up and prepare for bed.

The next day, just as she finished organizing her clothes, her phone rang—it was Paul.

With a serious demeanor, Paul asked, "Emily, where were you yesterday?"

"I was at Mr. Scott's house as a guest," Emily replied, continuing to organize her belongings.

"Just a visit?" Paul inquired.

Emily hesitated, thinking about the kiss she and Derek had shared on the road the day before. "Yes, just a visit," she finally replied.

"Do you realize you're in the news?" Paul's voice turned grave. "The headlines right now are about you and Derek."

Emily was shocked and quickly opened her laptop to search for it. A passerby had captured the moment when Derek kissed her on the street.

"Derek, president of Scott Group, kisses mystery woman on the street," read the headline, which had become the top story of the day. Comments flooded in, surpassing one hundred thousand in no time.

A few comments caught Emily's attention immediately.

"Don't you guys think this woman in Derek's arms looks a bit familiar?"

"Look at her eyes and her face—it's practically identical to Derek's wife who disappeared four years ago."

"This is too eerie...."

Emily's hand holding the cell phone trembled slightly. If what the netizens were saying was true, then everything suddenly made sense.

Emily's slender, plain white fingers swiftly skimmed over the keyboard. Her hacking skills had sharpened over the years, and few obstacles could deter her. In less than five minutes, she found a photo of Derek's former wife.

Emily quietly studied the image. The woman in the photo had cool eyebrows, thin crimson lips, and an aura of sternness. Not only did she resemble Emily in appearance, but her demeanor was also strikingly similar.

Emily realized why the children had insisted on her as their mother—she bore a resemblance to their missing mother. And now, she understood why Derek had fallen in love with her at first sight. It seemed she had been mistaken by Derek for this woman all along.
