Chapter 109
Chapter 109
Emily touched up her makeup in the bathroom. As she gazed at her reflection in the mirror, it always seemed like there was something beneath the surface of her face. However, upon closer inspection, she couldn't discern anything.
She had visited the doctor multiple times, desperately trying to unravel the mystery behind her memory loss. Frustratingly, no answers were forthcoming. The only options left were either to live her life in a perpetual state of confusion or to suddenly remember everything from the past.
An underlying feeling persisted within her that someone was eagerly awaiting her return home.
After applying her lipstick, Emily exited the bathroom and found herself face to face with Richard, who was carrying a bottle of champagne.
Having spent three years in the Parker family, Emily had encountered numerous dignitaries or celebrities in Kinnis with Simona. Emily was no fool.
She understood Simona's ulterior motive in introducing her to these influential figures.
The Parker family, recognizing her beauty, aimed to elevate their status by marrying her into one famous family.
Despite the Parker family's benevolence, Emily harbored no intention of repaying the favor with her marriage and happiness.
"Ms. Parker," Richard approached with a glass of wine, "May we have a moment alone?"
Emily responded faintly, "Just say what you have to say."
A flicker of contempt flashed in Richard's eyes. "I heard the Parker family wants us to get engaged. What are your thoughts?" he asked with a sly grin.
Emily spoke softly, "When my mother mentioned it to me, I had already refused. Mr. Levin, you're handsome and come from a wealthy family, while I am merely an adopted daughter."
Richard chuckled softly. "It seems you have some self-awareness. But You're good-looking, so I thought maybe we could give it a try."
He stepped forward, teasingly tickling a strand of Emily's hair and placing it lightly on the tip of his nose. "Smells good..."
Emily's expression turned cold.
She raised her hand, delivering a sharp slap to the back of Richard's hand with a resounding crunch.
Richard's eyes went cold, narrowing as he retorted, "What, you're not willing? Emily, you're just an adopted daughter of the Parker family. It's your luck to be noticed by me. I've also heard that you've given birth to a child. What qualifications do you have to play games with me?"
Emily's eyes suddenly turned cold. "Who told you that?"
"Anyway, a woman like you—what qualifications do you have to play hard to get in front of me? You might as well obediently accompany me for one night."
Emily raised her foot and kicked Richard directly.
"You bitch!" Richard lay paralyzed on the ground, covering his chest, his face full of incredulity.
Emily clapped her hands. "I gave you a chance."
"Richard, are you okay?" Fiona rushed out from around the hallway corner, her face full of panic. "Emily, how could you do that to Richard? He is the future heir of the Levin family! You offended Richard; the Levin family won't let you go."
Simona hurriedly arrived at that moment. "Mr. Levin, you're hurt. Who did this?"
Richard gritted his teeth. "It's your Parker family's adopted daughter. How dare she lay her hands on me! You guys wait and see!"
He shook Fiona's hand away and then left, covering his chest.
Simona looked up at Emily and said with a serious face, "Emily, have I ever told you that you're not allowed to just hit anyone?"
"Then what you mean is that even if I am humiliated by Richard, I can't fight back?" Emily questioned coldly.
"Mom, the Levin family will definitely come after us this time," Fiona said anxiously from the side.
Simona's face turned unsightly.
"I will solve this matter myself; don't need you guys to bother," Emily said coldly "It's getting late; I'll go home first."
She stepped away and crossed the corridor calmly and lightly.
Emily drove down to the beach.
She walked on the pebble-covered sand and looked into the distance with her eyes raised.
She had checked the map, and on the other side of the ocean was a cosmopolitan city.
Simona had mentioned that she had probably been swept by the waves from there to Kinnis. She had managed to survive, but what about her child...
That child...
That dream...
Emily closed her eyes and pushed down the hurt in her heart.
After spending an hour at the beach, Emily drove back to the city.
She parked her car in front of a building and got out with her car keys.
She had just walked to the square in front of the office building when she noticed a large group of bodyguards escorting a little girl out of the building. Many people around were engaged in conversation.
"Look, it's the talented painter Diane Scott. She's only nine years old this year and has already organized painting exhibitions all over the world."
"How did she end up in our Kinnis?"
"Her teacher, Adam, seems to have retired in Kinnis. She must be here to visit her teacher."
Hearing the ongoing chatter around her, Emily also came to a halt and raised her eyes to look in that direction.
In the midst of a dozen black-clad bodyguards stood a beautiful young girl, around eight or nine years old, with long black hair draping over her shoulders, a pink bow on her head, and calm eyes.
The surrounding discussion seemed to have no effect on the young girl. She maintained a calm face, displaying no extra expressions.
Emily took a second glance, and the more she looked, the more intrigued she became. Inexplicably, she felt a sense of familiarity.
However, since she didn't usually attend painting exhibitions, she should have never seen this young girl before. So, how could she feel familiar?
"Ms. Scott, please get in the car."
The bodyguard opened the car door and respectfully invited Diane inside. Diane nodded and bent down, ready to get into the car when she suddenly froze.
She felt an intense gaze fixed on her. Despite being frequently surrounded by people and often the most noticeable presence in the crowd, she should have grown accustomed to such stares long ago...
She slowly turned her head, and her gaze traveled through the crowd, landing on a woman not far away. In that instant, Diane's eyes widened.
She turned abruptly and took a quick step in that direction.
"Ms. Scott!"
The bodyguard was startled and rushed to her side, preventing onlookers from approaching her for autographs.
Emily observed as the young girl hurried toward her. Thinking she might be obstructing something, she hastily stepped aside.
Diane suddenly grabbed her wrist, and grief appeared on her composed face. Her emotionless eyes were now filled with tears. Tears streamed down her previously emotionless eyes.
"Mommy!"
Diane choked on her words, tears pouring down her face. Emily hurriedly steadied her.
"Little girl, are you mistaking me for someone else? I'm not your mommy."
If her child were still alive, her child should be three or four years old. It's impossible for her child to be eight or nine years old already...
Diane opened her tearful eyes, the face in front of her becoming clearer. As she approached, she realized that this face differed slightly from the mommy she remembered...
Could it be that missing her mommy so much made her mistake any woman resembling for her mother?
She raised her hand, wiping tears haphazardly with her sleeve. Her voice still choked up, she asked, "What's your name?"
Seeing her cry and feeling her warm tears on the back of her hand, Emily felt that her heart tightened a little. She slowly responded, "My name is Emily. What about you? What's your name?"
Emily.
This woman's name was exactly like her own mother's.
There was no mistaking it! She couldn't be mistaken!
"I'm Diane Scott!"
She hadn't seen her mother in four years, and she had grown up, so her mother might not recognize her.
Diane's eyes widened, hope shining deep within them.
Emily smiled, saying, "You have a nice name."
"Don't you remember the name?" Diane's eyes widened. "I'm Diane, Mommy. I'm your favorite daughter! Why don't you remember me? Mommy, I finally found you..."
