Chapter 101
Chapter 101
After Emily, Derek, and the four kids finished their cozy dinner, Derek went to do the dishes, while the kids went to the yard to play.
Suddenly, a sharp and abrupt ring echoed through the house. Derek walked from the kitchen to the living room and picked up the phone.
Emily sat on the sofa with her hand on her chin, silently gazing at the handsome Derek. However, her thoughts drifted, contemplating the possibility that even if Gimson were arrested again and placed in a dungeon with reinforced defenses, he would still manage to escape.
Gimson was too tricky, and Derek, a decent man, was no match for him at all. Unless Gimson was killed...
As soon as this thought surfaced in Emily's mind, she was shocked. When had she become so cruel and cold-blooded as to consider killing someone to get rid of Gimson? Shaking her head, she banished this bizarre thought from her mind.
At that moment, Derek's face had darkened.
"What do you mean... that it wasn't Gimson in the basement?" Derek questioned with intensity. "Was Gimson replaced? Check the surveillance! Check them one by one! I must find Gimson's whereabouts!"
Derek's violent yelling was proof enough of how shaken up he was.
Emily walked over and gently patted Derek's back until he finally calmed down.
He continued, "There's a good chance that the surveillance has been compromised. Find a hacker to restore it, and you have to locate Gimson for me."
Hanging up the phone, Derek's anger hadn't dissipated. "Don't be angry," said Emily softly. "Someone like Gimson, how could he be willing to be locked up for the rest of his life? I'm afraid that from the first day he was imprisoned, he has been planning how to escape."
"Derek, now is not the time to blame yourself," Emily soothed. "We should speculate on where he might have gone to hide."
Derek's face grew colder as he tensed his jaw and said slowly, "He should still be in this city."
In his mind, a terrible suspicion rose. Gimson hated him, and staying to this city to seek revenge was a reasonable assumption.
However, he was more afraid that Gimson had come for Emily...
He subconsciously embraced Emily, saying, "From today onwards, we can't be separated for a minute."
"Derek, don't worry; he wouldn't dare," Emily laughed confidently. "If he comes looking for me, he'll definitely run into you. Isn't that asking for trouble? He's not that stupid."
The two held each other tightly, and the atmosphere grew somber. In that moment, Derek truly regretted his decision.
He had prioritized the bond of twin brothers and spared Gimson's life. However, Gimson never reciprocated brotherly affection.
Instead, he coveted Derek's wife and harmed his children.
Was there anything Gimson wouldn't do? If Derek dared to hurt Emily again, this time, he would show no mercy.
Meanwhile, in Derek's arms, Emily pondered how Gimson could have escaped the basement. Someone must have assisted him, but who?
Suddenly, a name crossed Emily's mind, prompting her to break away from Derek's embrace, saying, "I'm going out; don't follow me."
Emily donned a duffle coat, grabbed her car keys, and left. Derek, narrowing his eyes, waited for Emily's car to travel a hundred meters before following.
While driving, he called and said, "Arrange a few more people to tail me."
Observing the familiar road through the window, Derek accelerated toward the other villa.
Meanwhile, in the suburbs at another villa, Emma entered her room to change when she spotted a figure leaning against the balcony. Startled, she recognized him, exclaiming, "Gimson... it's you." Her voice was nervous and excited, tears streaming down her face.
Since Emily and Derek returned, Emma, burdened with guilt, had moved to this villa. She rushed over, pulling Gimson inside, questioning, "Why did you come back? When I helped you escape the basement, you promised you would leave. If Derek finds out, he'll kill you!"
Gimson grinned maliciously, "So what? Are you planning to hand me over to him?"
Emma hurriedly glanced behind her, then rushed to lock the room's door. "Gimson, I don't want to discuss the feud between you two brothers anymore. I want Derek to live well, and I want the same for you. Just leave this place quickly and never come back, okay?"
"Having experienced walking in the light, do you think I will return to the darkness?" Gimson chuckled softly. "Between me and Derek, you can only choose one."
Emma's lips quivered. "Gimson, you're blood brothers, twin siblings from the same mother. Why does it have to be like this? Why..."
Gimson sneered, "I could promise to leave here forever, but..."
"But what?" Emma pressed, her heart sinking again. She feared the two brothers meeting and falling into an endless struggle once more.
"I'm taking Emily away with me!"
"What?" Emma's eyes widened in shock. She stared at the determined Gimson. "You're crazy; she's Derek's wife!"
As her words fell, the sound of emergency brakes echoed at the entrance of the villa.
Gimson smirked, "Looks like Emily is here. Bring her to this room."
Emma's hand shook. "Gimson, don't do this..."
"Or I'll stay here and fight Derek tooth and nail forever! I think you know what to do!" Gimson laughed indifferently.
Emma went downstairs when she saw that Emily had arrived.
Her expression was complex. "Emily, why did you suddenly come over?"
Emily stared at her for a moment, then smiled suddenly. "You were the one who helped Gimson escape from the basement, weren't you?"
Emma blushed and admitted, "I... You know, Emily, Gimson is my child too. I couldn't bear to see him locked in the basement for the rest of his life!"
"You can't stand to watch him lose his freedom, but you can stand to let Derek and all his children live with the threat of Gimson forever?" Emily coldly interrupted. "Emma, tell me where he is."
Emma's face filled with weakness and unease.
Gimson must have escaped from the basement with her help.
Emma would always be on Gimson's side between the two brothers because she felt indebted to him.
The corner of Emily's mouth curled into a sneer. Emma opened her lips and paled. After a deep breath, she said, "Emily, no. Gimson promised me he would leave here forever. I..."
"But he didn't, did he? I don't want to hear your explanation. Take me to Gimson."
