Revenge with My Quadruplets

Chapter 86

Chapter 86

Emily and Derek's wedding was like a grand firework, slowly settling down as people marveled at the spectacle. Although the pace of Emily and Derek's lives remained unchanged, it was perhaps the so-called spirit of commitment that bound them even more closely after the ceremony.

So, when Derek showed up at the diner to sit side by side with Emily, there were moments when she felt like they had been together for decades.

"Emily, could you pass the ketchup for me?" Derek smiled, casting a doting look at Emily that momentarily left her feeling a bit woozy.

"Okay, sure." Emily, a little flustered, handed the ketchup to Derek.

"Why do I feel like you're in need of more exercise..." Derek teased, his eyes lingering on Emily as he took a bite of his croissant.

Emily, fully aware of his implication, blushed and pretended not to hear him, hastily turning on the TV to divert attention.

"The latest news from this station: Serena, the eldest daughter of The Sanchez family, returned home today. Her return undoubtedly holds great significance for THE Sanchez family."

The voice from the TV immediately captured Emily's interest. She looked up and saw a blonde girl standing at the airport, surrounded by countless flashbulbs that enhanced her already radiant appearance.

"I've heard that you didn't inform anyone in advance of your return this time. Does your return mean that there will be significant changes in the Sanchez family right away?"

A curly-haired lady raised her hand before passing the microphone to a girl named Serena, and her question lingered in the minds of all the reporters in the room.

Serena smiled slightly, smoothly took the handed microphone, and turned her body slightly sideways to gaze into the camera.

"No, I only came back for one person."

Serena's words immediately captivated the scene, and reporters wanted to swarm like bees, bombarding Serena with questions about that person.

However, Serena only left a mysterious smile, then maneuvered out of the crowd under the protection of her bodyguards and walked to her car.

"Hey Derek, look at this. Guess whom Serena came back for."

Having witnessed the powerful news herself, Emily couldn't resist sharing it with Derek.

"Well, I'm full."

Derek nodded softly, his face expressionless, and then picked up his plate, heading into the kitchen.

Derek's counterintuitive reaction left Emily a little puzzled, and her eagerness to share dissipated. As she looked at Derek's back, a faint sense of inexplicable loss rose in her heart.

Emily turned off the TV and returned to her bedroom alone. As soon as she lay down on her bed, her cell phone rang.

"Come on, Emily, turn on the TV!" Louise's eager voice on the other end of the phone nearly pierced Emily's eardrums.

"Take your time, I just turned off the TV."

Emily felt somewhat helpless against Louise's fiery enthusiasm.

"Did you see it? The woman!"

"Woman?" Emily frowned, immediately conjuring up the image of Serena, who had just smiled at the camera. "Serena?"

"That's her," Louise confirmed, her excitement evident through the cell phone.

"Well, I thought you had something going on. I'm going to lie down for a bit longer if there's nothing else..."

"It's Derek!" Louise's words caused Emily to freeze for a moment.

"What?"

"On the TV, Serena was talking about going back home for someone, and that someone was Derek!"

Boom!

Emily's mind went blank, and her hands couldn't help but shake. "What did you say?"

"I'm afraid you still don't know; Serena is Derek's first love. At that time, there were rumors that the two of them would get married right away, but I don't know what happened. Serena left Derek alone and ran away to a foreign country to develop her career. Since she's returning with so much fanfare this time, she must be back to win Derek's heart again."

"You must be careful!"

Perhaps concerned that Emily didn't realize the seriousness of the problem, Louise deliberately raised her volume when she uttered the last sentence.

"Uh-huh."

Emily responded somewhat perfunctorily, but her thoughts became entirely confused.

When she and Derek got married, Emily merely wanted to find a reliable father for her children. However, when Emily saw Derek's reverent eyes at the wedding, there was a moment when she felt ashamed of her somewhat selfish thoughts.

As time passed back, Emily's heart was subconsciously changing.

"Well, it's fine. To me, he's just the father of my child. As for where the heart belongs, it doesn't matter to me."

Emily pretended to be relaxed to hide her uneasiness. She didn't want to act in crisis in front of Louise, as it would make her feel like a parasite that couldn't survive without a man.

"But I still have to remind you, Serena has been out of the country for so long, and she came right back just after you married Derek. It's too much of a coincidence; you'd better pay more attention to his recent movements."

Louise was a little taken aback by Emily's reaction but couldn't help but admonish her again.

"Thanks for the reminder. I'm well aware of his status. He just needs to play the role of a good father."

Boom!

Just as Emily's words fell, a crisp ring suddenly came from behind her. Emily subconsciously turned her head to find Derek standing in the doorway, a scattered bunch of grapes and pieces of a plate at his feet.

"Am I just the father of the children to you?"

Derek grimaced, a hint of anger laced in his cold voice.
