Chapter 70
Chapter 70
In the morning, Emily remembered that Aaron and Ian had not called to let her know they were safe after they went back yesterday. Although she knew that nothing would happen to them, she was concerned about them.
Emily dialed Derek's number. She didn't know what was going on. Derek didn't answer. She called again. And it took him a long time to pick up the phone.
"What is it?" Derek's voice sounded very strange. In fact, he had just been woken up by the phone, and he drank last night, so his voice sounded different.
"This is Emily. How are Aaron and Ian? They didn't call me yesterday." Emily placed the phone between her ear and shoulder while typing.
"Derek? Are you still listening?" Derek was quiet. Emily wondered if he had hung up the phone.
Derek replied, "Aaron and Ian are fine."
He tried his best to hold back, yet he did not succeed. Then he quickly said, "Miss Hopkinson, I know it was a little abrupt, but if you don't agree, I won't force you. Do you think you can pretend not to know anything just by not mentioning it?"
Emily stopped typing, feeling confused. "Derek, I don't understand what you are talking about. If you didn't sleep well, I am sorry to disturb you."
"Forget it. If this is what you want, I respect your choice." Derek hung up the phone.
Emily looked at the phone and felt puzzled. She thought for a moment and couldn't figure it out, so she felt Derek had just woken up on the wrong side of the bed.
The person who was chatting with Emily replied to her, and her attention returned to the chat.
"Was the proposal I sent you last time approved?" Emily asked.
"You did a great job. Everything went very smoothly," the person replied.
"Alright, tell me when you come. I'll pick you up. I have to go to work now." Emily looked at the time and hurried out. She didn't see the reply before exiting the chat page.
"I'll have a surprise for you soon."
Emily returned to the company after kissing Chris and Diane. Andrew had already arrived. He always came to work early. Then, he would double-check everything that had been arranged today. Since Andrew came to help her, she had been more efficient. And she had become more organized. This made her work easier.
"Good morning, Andrew," Emily said.
"Emily, I just learned something," Andrew said with a serious expression.
"Go on," Emily responded warily, looking at Andrew.
"A new technology company is looking for partners. Their main business is artificial intelligence. Although this company started a few years ago, it has quickly developed with its keen observation of the market and strong abilities. Therefore, all the companies are very concerned about this cooperation. This company issued a list of guests three days ago. The Hopkinson Group is on the list, but the headquarters did not inform us. They want to exclude us." Andrew got angrier as he spoke.
"Wait a minute, Andrew. What is the name of that company?" The more Emily listened, the more familiar she felt the company was.
"It's called Silvery Waterfall," Andrew answered. "I've received news that the banquet will start this afternoon. The Hopkinson Group was invited. If the headquarters doesn't bring us to it, we can't attend it. How about I call the headquarters again?"
"No need." Emily stopped Andrew. "I can get an invitation. Just come with me in the afternoon," she smiled confidently.
Emily returned to the office. She opened the encrypted chat page and saw the last sentence. "It really is a surprise," she muttered to herself.
Although they had received the news half a day in advance, they had little time to prepare for it. Not only did they have to prepare the documents, but they also had to choose clothes and styling. They had no time to eat at noon.
Emily pulled the nervous Andrew to a stylish house.
"Dear Emily, come in quickly. I've been waiting for you for a long time." As soon as they entered, a flamboyant man greeted them.
Andrew stood in front of Emily to prevent her from being hugged by this strange man.
"Don't worry. This is Jayden, my friend," Emily explained with a smile.
Jayden rolled his eyes at Andrew, and Andrew retreated awkwardly.
"Darling, I'm ready. I haven't seen a perfect figure like yours for a long time. I'm so happy to see you." Jayden was very excited at the mention of his work. He was a little paranoid about his pursuit of beauty.
"I'll do you a favor for Emily's sake," Jayden said to Andrew behind him.
As they spoke, they went to the dressing room. They saw two rows of clothes as soon as they opened the door. These clothes had varied styles and were dazzling. Andrew also thought these clothes were pretty.
"Jayden, I'm attending a banquet, not a beauty contest," Emily said resignedly.
"I'm a designer. So, you must listen to me. Hurry up and try it on." Jayden stuffed a piece of clothing into Emily's hands and pushed her into the fitting room.
A few minutes later, Emily came out. It was a light-pink gauze dress that gave people a dreamy feeling. The design of the upper part set off Emily's collarbone and shoulders. The end of the dress reached above her knees, revealing her slender and straight legs.
"You're so beautiful. You always inspire me," Jayden said.
"I can't wear it, Jayden. I'm going to a business banquet. This one is not suitable," Emily said and chose another dress. "I'll try this one."
Emily returned to the fitting room.
While waiting for Emily, Jayden said impatiently to Andrew, "Come with me."
They walked inside, and there were a few more rows of clothes. These expensive clothes had become ordinary here.
"This is for you. Go over there and try it on." Jayden stuffed a set of clothes into Andrew's arms.
When Andrew changed his clothes and walked out, Emily also came out. Andrew felt Emily was like a fairy.
Emily picked a sapphire blue strapless dress. The material of this dress was exquisite. From the chest to the hem, there was a string of diamonds, giving a mysterious aura. They were shiny under the lights. The dress reminded people of the Milky Way in the night sky, mysterious and fascinating.
"You have good taste," Jayden said. "Hurry up and sit down. We don't have much time left. You haven't put on makeup yet."
At the entrance of the Hilton Hotel, all kinds of luxury cars were led to a designated location by the doormen. The reporters had already arrived. Looking at the business bigwigs who had entered the hotel one by one, the reporters were so excited that they kept pressing the shutter buttons.
"They're from the Hopkinson Group."
Someone shouted, and all the reporters focused their cameras on the car that had just arrived.
Ash opened the door and got out of the car first. Then Laura walked out. Her dress matched her age and had some popular elements, making her look pretty and graceful.
Rose got out of the car after Laura. She was also very dazzling today.
"It's Rose. She is the fiancée of the person in charge of the Scott family."
Hearing the discussions around her, Rose revealed a faint smile.
