Chapter 58

　　Derek locked himself in the study after returning from the racecourse and only showed up when it was time for dinner.

　　"Daddy, are you in a bad mood?" Ian looked at Derek.

　　Derek paused for a moment. "No. Try not to talk while having a meal."

　　He handed the sliced beef to Ian and helped Aaron disinfect the tableware.

　　Aaron looked at Derek worriedly. He was more sensitive to others' emotions.

　　"I'll sleep with you tonight, okay?" After dinner, Derek suddenly said as he had fun with Ian and Aaron.

　　Ian did not feel that something was wrong. He was happy that he could sleep with Derek because he liked Derek and Aaron the most.

　　"It's great! Daddy, I want to listen to a story. Can you tell me one?" Ian requested. He held Derek's hand and shook it.

　　Then he ran to Aaron, "Aaron, how about it?"

　　Ian was afraid that Derek would not agree with his request, so he turned to Aaron for help.

　　Aaron was playing a number puzzle. When Ian suddenly rushed over, the number Aaron wrote was messed up. Aaron frowned, wiped off the wrong number, and wrote it neatly again.

　　"Aaron, are you angry?" Ian said carefully.

　　Aaron shook his head and then nodded.

　　"Did you mean that you also want Daddy to tell stories?" Ian guessed.

　　Aaron nodded again.

　　"Daddy, tell us a story. Aaron also wants to listen to it." Ian was proud of himself.

　　"Go take a shower first. I won't tell you the story if you don't do it." Derek rubbed Ian's hair and patted him.

　　Ian screamed excitedly and rushed into the bathroom. "I'm quick. I'll take a shower first."

　　Derek turned around and saw Aaron looking straight at him as if Aaron had seen through his thoughts.

　　Derek was a little embarrassed and touched his nose to hide his emotions. He then walked to Aaron and squatted down.

　　"Aaron, do you miss Emily?" Derek asked expectantly.

　　Aaron stopped playing his games and nodded at Derek.

　　"Do you want to call her now?" Derek asked.

　　Aaron's eyes lit up. He looked at Derek as if he was saying, "Really?"

　　Derek stood up and took his phone. 'This is not for me, but for Aaron.' With this in mind, he dialed a number.

　　"Mommy, what happened after that?" Diane asked anxiously.

　　Emily was about to tell Diane when she was interrupted by the phone call.

　　'Derek? What happened? Why did he call me so late?' Emily was puzzled. 'Did something happen to Aaron?' She was worried when she thought of this.

　　"Derek, is Aaron alright?" Emily asked anxiously as soon as she picked up the phone.

　　"What? Aaron is fine. Are you still up?" Derek asked, puzzled.

　　"I mean, it's good that I didn't wake you up," Derek clenched his fists in regret. He was somewhat gibbering now.

　　"No. I'm telling bedtime stories to Chris and Diane. Is Aaron by your side?" Emily was concerned about Aaron.

　　Derek pursed his lips when he sensed that Emily didn't want to talk to him more. He lowered his head and noticed that Aaron had walked to him and was looking straight at the phone in his hand.

　　Derek realized that he was fighting for Emily's attention with Aaron. He felt a little awkward in his heart, but he didn't show it on his face.

　　"He's right next to me. He's eager to talk to you." Derek had to pass the phone to Aaron after he finished his words. Then, he sat beside Aaron.

　　"Aaron, did you miss me?" Emily's gentle voice sounded on the phone.

　　Although the voice that reached Derek's ears was low, he felt a sense of satisfaction.

　　"Aaron, if you miss me, just tell me directly, okay?" Emily encouraged Aaron to speak.

　　"Alright." After a moment of silence, Aaron finally spoke.

　　Derek felt jealous. Emily's words were so effective as if Aaron was about to become her son.

　　"Derek knows my phone number. If you miss me, you can call me at any time. But, I have a request." Emily talked to Aaron in a gentle tone. "Aaron, you have to speak to me every time you call me. Sharing your mood with me or asking me for help is fine."

　　Aaron held the phone tightly and pressed it against his ear. He was afraid that he would miss a word Emily said.

　　When he heard Emily's request, he hurriedly nodded. Then, he realized that Emily was unable to see him nod, so he said softly, "Okay."

　　"Daddy, Aaron, you are so slow. I have been lying in bed waiting for you for a long time. Are you eating delicious food behind my back?" Ian complained and pushed open the door. He said to himself inwardly, 'Daddy is really bad. He said that he would tell a story after I took a shower, yet he let me wait for him for so long. He and Aaron must have hidden delicious food. They have gone too far. I'm angry, and I won't forgive them easily.'

　　Derek recalled that he had promised to tell them a bedtime story. Before he could stop Ian, Ian had finished complaining.

　　"Daddy, what are you doing? Who are you calling?" Ian asked curiously.

　　"It's Emily," Derek had no choice but to answer.

　　Ian ran to Aaron excitedly. He missed Emily too. He looked at Aaron anxiously, yet he didn't take the phone directly because of Aaron's mysophobia. Instead, he waited for Aaron to pass it to him.

　　Aaron said a few more words to Emily and then handed the phone to Ian reluctantly.

　　"Emily, you're amazing. Aaron just said a few words. I'm so happy. Daddy is so bad. He secretly called you behind my back," Ian kept talking and even complained to Emily about Derek.

　　Emily didn't even need to say anything as Ian kept talking.

　　The more Derek listened, the gloomier his face became. Why did Ian "defect", either? Derek wanted to spank Ian and see if he still dared to speak nonsense.

　　"Alright, Ian, give me the phone. It's late, and Emily is going to sleep." Seeing that Ian was excited, Derek could not help but interrupt him.

　　"Emily, Daddy said that you're going to sleep. What a pity. I still want to chat with you more." Ian felt regretful. He still had much to say, yet time passed quickly.

　　Derek took the phone from Ian. "Emily, are you free recently? I want Aaron to stay at your place for another night."

　　Derek was nervous when he said that.

　　Emily frowned and rejected Derek. Derek was so overbearing and arranged everything directly. His attitude annoyed her a little. Moreover, she didn't want to interact too much with him recently because she was afraid of provoking Rose to do crazy things.

　　Derek's expression darkened when he heard Emily's rejection.
