Chapter 30. SURPRISING HER
Chapter 30. SURPRISING HER
SOPHIA CASTILLO
It's been over two weeks since I came back from my parent's place and two more weeks until my cousin's wedding.
The funny thing about it all is that Adrian has been different towards me. He has been nice and friendly to me and is always speaking to me in a friendly tone and trust me when I tell you it makes me nervous.
I couldn't help but think there was an ulterior motive to his actions because he wasn't this nice to me before.
It's as if he is trying to get to know me so that he could find more reasons to accuse me.
"Good morning," I yawned as I joined him at the dining table.
He had someone go wake me up, surprising me as he has been the one waking me up for the past week.
"Good morning to you too," he replied.
My eyes met with his for the shortest seconds and I felt my heart skip.
He has been looking at me differently compared to the times he always had a cold look in his eyes.
"Come sit beside me," he said and my heart skipped again.
I wasn't used to friendly Adrian yet his words and action has a lot of effects on me.
I sat down beside him as I have been doing for the past week and he served my breakfast. I was supposed to get used to him but I wasn't sure if I'd ever be used to this side of Adrian.
Every time I thought it was getting better with him, he would end up doing otherwise.
"How are you? Did you have a good night's sleep?" He asked me.
"Yes, thank you," I replied him.
If it was a week before now, Adrian and I would have eaten in silence but it wasn't the case now. He seemed to be asking me questions as usual and trying to get me involved in his business.
"You will be helping me with it right?" He asked and I nodded my head.
"Sure," I replied.
"You have something at the side of your mouth," he told me and I carried the napkin on the table to wipe them off.
"It's still there," Adrian told me, touching the left side of his lips to indicate the position it was.
"Let me help you," Adrian dropped his fork and stretched forward to help me with it.
"There you go," he said.
"Thank you," I muttered to him.
"Adrian," I called, finally gathering enough courage to ask him for permission to go to my cousin's wedding.
"What is it?" He asked me.
"I...I..." I took in a deep breath and exhaled.
"I want to ask you..." I trailed off nervous.
"Go on, speak to me," he urged and I swallowed the lump that formed in my throat.
'it is now or never Sophia, tell him now or never I said to myself.
"I want...I mean I need to ask for your permission," I finally said, letting out a deep breath.
"Permission for what?" He asked, raising his brows.
"My cousin's sister is getting married in two weeks but she wants me to come in a week earlier and I want you... To ... Give me... permis..."
"You want my permission to go, is that it?" He asked.
"Yes," I hiccuped.
My palms became sweaty as I waited for him to speak to me. It would hurt me if he refused I go.
"Of course, you can go. When are you leaving and where?" He asked.
I couldn't believe my ears. A smile formed on my face immediately after I heard him say that.
"The wedding is going to take place in Ohio and I will be traveling next week," I replied.
"That's fine," he told me.
"You can go. Do you need any help with anything? If you do need help, then let me know," he said, surprising me more than I already was.
"Thank you," I said.
We both ate in silence.

"You should loosen up. He might have nothing on his sleeve," Sarah told me but I found it hard to believe.
Adrian had always had something on his sleeve. One minute he is nice and the next minute he is not the more he becomes friendly to me, the more worried I'd get.
"That's because you know nothing," I tell her.
"How? Well, that's true anyways. I know nothing and since I know nothing, do you mind enlightening me so I know something?" She said and I sighed.
"You do not know what happens behind closed doors and...Adrian... He is always planning something and that's for sure. I won't trust him because he...he..." I stuttered.
"He what?" Sarah urged, moving closer to me.
"Because he is even more friendly behind closed doors and not that friendly. What I mean is..." I cowered when I recalled how he'd tease me, kiss me on my neck, and then accuse me of loving what he was doing.
"Are you going to tell me or are you not?" She asked and I heaved a sigh.
"The truth is, Adrian doesn't trust me. He believes my father and I have some plans against him. He touches me in an overly friendly way and then, I react. I mean... It's not like I wanted to but... It's crazy how I just lose my senses... And when I do that, he...tells me that I am always proving his suspicion right," I stuttered.
"I do not understand you at all. I do not know if you have noticed but things have changed. I mean compared to last month and early this month, Adrian seems different towards you. I do not know if I should tell you this but three weeks ago, Adrian was listening to our conversation when you were cooking jollof rice," Sarah revealed and I creased my brows in confusion.
"Excuse you? When and how and why am I just knowing now?" I asked in utter disbelief.
