ANGELA'S DRUNK
ANGELA'S DRUNK
Liya immediately grabbed their home phone and dialed Yuki’s number, her tears started blurring her vision as she frantically explained what was happening. “Aunty Yuki, please, you have to come. Mummy….. She’s not okay,” Liya cried into the phone, her voice thick with fear. Junior, who was traumatized by his own confusion, cried even louder than his sister. Yuki could hear their cries over the phone. That was disturbing. “What’s happening, what happened to Angela?” She asked. “She came home…staggering and was crying, then she told us… she told us that Uncle Jace is dead and that it’s her fault, other things we can't understand. We don’t know what to do…” Lia got the bowl and a towel and started cleaning Angela up. Yuki sighed in relief. “Calm down honey, nothing is going to happen to her, Okay?” Yuki replied. Liya nodded readily. Just then the doorbell rang, interrupting their phone conversation. The twins exchanged some fearful looks, wondering who that might be. “I think they are there already, go open the door for them, quick, they will help Angela”. Yuki instructed. Without questioning, Lia hung up. She put Junior down and hurried to the door, wiping her tear-streaked face as she opened it. She was shocked at the face she saw, it was completely unexpected. Standing on the doorstep was a familiar face, one she hadn’t seen in years, for some unknown reasons. Her real mother, Kerry. Liya recognized them as the woman who had abandoned them years ago. Leaving them in the care of her big sister Angela, who had become the only mother they had ever known. Then another woman beside her whom she knew nothing of. Kerry eyes well up in tears, seeing her daughter grown and healthy, but then she paused abruptly as she noticed the tears on Liya's face. Before she could introduce herself or ask Liya why she was crying, the girl burst into tears. “Please come and help my mummy”. Kerry was expecting an unusual welcome, but she wasn’t prepared for this emergency. The two women rushed into the living room, where they found Angela. Crumpled on the couch, sobbing uncontrollably, while Lia was cleaning her face with a towel and Junior crying for her attention. Which he noticed was unusually taking forever. Stepping into the room, Courtney froze in shock, seeing a doppelgänger of Antonio’s childhood. She gasped and carried Junior immediately to console. At first, he feared the stranger but the next minute, he needed that comfort so he rested his head on her bosom, sobbing. “Angela?” Kerry gasped in fear. Lia was stunned to see Kerry, having flashbacks. “Lia, Aunty Yuki asked them to come”. Liya told her confused sister. Lia nodded and moved aside, staring at the visitors, especially one of them whom she had developed instant hatred for. Her sister Liya joined her as if they communicated with their hearts. Kerry rushed to her sister and knelt down beside her, her heart aching as she reached out to touch Angela's face. “Angela? It’s me Kerry”. She cried. Angela lifted her tear-streaked face, her eyes red and swollen, and for a moment, she seemed to register who was standing in front of her. But the pain in her heart was too great, and she turned away, curling into herself as if trying to disappear. “Hmph? Ke..… Kerry?. Is Jace with you?” She was sobbing sleepily. Junior was now nursing in Courtney’s arm like she was his second mother, and started dozing off. “I think she is just drunk, Kerry. Let’s carry her to her room”. Courtney suggested calmly in order not to wake the kid. Kerry nodded and stood up. She turned to the twins, they immediately looked away from her. Her heart raced. “So the apologies later, Kerry”. Courtney said again. Kerry nodded in agreement. ********* Antonio returns to the restaurant, he can't seem to get rid of the wretched face that Angela made when he told her his decision. He had said everything he needed to say, he chose his present, Hinata and his new family, but there's this heaviness in his chest. He didn’t look back since he walked out of the restaurant, he wondered if she left the Café immediately or was still there crying herself to death. He drew a deep breath. However, he shouldn't be affected by that. He made his choice already. He looked up and sighed Hinata standing pretty outside the restaurant, with her face buried in her phone, waiting for him. When she lifted her head and saw him approach, her heart skipped immediately, she minimized her chat screen and put on a worried look on her face. “You left without saying a word, I was so worried, babe”. She pouted in annoyance. Antonio took a deep breath and met her eyes with a smile. “What's with that smile?” She asked suspiciously. “It’s done”. Antonio said quietly. “What do you mean by that?” “I met with Angela…” Her heart skipped a beat, and she froze for a second. A tight frown appeared across her face. “How could you!” “I cut off all ties with her.” Antonio added. Hinata’s eyes widened, but she hid her shock well. Internally, panic flickered, she had never expected Antonio to end things so cleanly, so decisively. Now, her carefully laid scheme was unraveling before her, but she couldn’t let him see the turmoil inside her. “What?” She gasped in disbelief. “I made a choice, you”. Antonio replied with a smile. “Really?” Hinata scoffed in disbelief, tears forming in her eyes. Antonio nodded. “That’s amazing, baby,” she said softly and burst into tears. She reached up, wrapping her arms around his neck, and before he could respond, she pressed her lips against his in a passionate kiss, her body melting into his. Antonio responded with the same energy. Hinata deepened the kiss, her heart racing, but not from their intimacy, but from the nervousness clawing at her insides. If only she knew that he will cut off ties this soon, she wouldn't have contacted that anonymous and initiated the plan against Angela. However, maybe it's not all useless. Eliminating her from Japan will make it safer in case he recovers his memory in the future and help him move on faster. When Hinata finally pulled back, she laughed lightly. “I’m so happy, Diego,” she said, still clinging to him. “It must have been hard for you…” “It's not hard to choose you”. He whispered huskily and cleaned her tears with his thumb. Hinata blushed. She bit her lower lip seductively, then she threw her arms around his neck again and kissed him. The force of her jump caught him off guard, but he steadied her by gripping her waist, holding her as she hung off him like a lifeline.
