TWINS DISAPPOINTMENT

Angela's nieces, Lia and Liya, burst into her room, their faces were covered with disappointment. “Aunt Angela, he didn't come!” they chimed in unison, their eyes welling up with tears. Angela rubbed her tired yet to digest their complaints, she has fallen asleep hours ago, the moment she came back and cried herself to sleep. She gestured for them to come closer. “Who didn't come, sweethearts?” she asked, rubbing her eyes, although she already suspected the answer. “Uncle Charming! He promised to take us to the movies, but he's not here!” Lia exclaimed, her voice trembling. Angela's expression turned sympathetic, yet secretly worried, even though the possibility of him coming for her is down to zero. Diana must’ve exposed her dirty game with Damon to him. He didn’t call to ask her about her own side of the story. She tried to hide her own disappointment. “I'm so sorry, girls. I know how much you were looking forward to it. Maybe Uncle was busy and couldn’t make it" she said softly. Liya crossed her arms, her lower lip jutting out in a childish pout, giving her an adorable round face. “He always does this! He promises stuff and then doesn't show up!” “That’s not true Liya, he does show up, perhaps he forgot”. Her twin Lia replied then turned to Angela with her tiny fingers fixed in a pleading gesture. “Please Angela, can you call him to know why he is not here yet?” She sobbed. Angela heart raced at that point, however, deceiving the kids is not a problem for her. She knew she doesn’t have the guts it takes to call Ken. She smiled and nodded understandingly. “I know it's frustrating, Lia, but sometimes grown-ups have things they need to take care of.” Lia's eyes narrowed. “But he's always 'busy' when it comes to us! You and he are always fighting, Aunt Angela. Is that why he didn't come?” Angela’s eyes widened. “Fighting? Who told you that? We are not always fighting it’s a grown up thing we do, there maybe little misunderstanding but…” Then she paused, not wanting to reveal too much about her relationship issues with Antonio. “Let's just say we're having some disagreements, but that doesn't mean he doesn't care about you girls or me. Grow ups may fight all the time, but we still love each other, okay? I am very sure he is just…preoccupied.” Liya snorted. “Preoccupied with ignoring us, you mean!” Angela chuckled and pulled the girls into a hug. “Hey, let's not focus on what didn't happen. Why don't we have our own movie night, right here in my our house? You two and your Angela. I've got popcorn and snacks, and we can watch your favorite Disney films! Huh? What do you say?” She raised her continuously eyebrows in a tease manner. The girls' faces brightened. “Yeah! We are going to watch Moana!” “I wish Uncle charming is here”. Liya said with a grieving face. “Aww, me too honey but don’t worry I will call him, I will make sure he will be here, as soon as he is less busy. Happy now?” Liya nodded and took her twin, the two ran out of the room to prepare for their movie night. Angela sighed heavily as soon as the door shut. She fell back on the bed flat, her eyes closed to seal off her tears. Suddenly, her phone beeped. She jumped up and picked it up, but to her disappointment it wasn’t anything to do with Antonio, it was just an email spam. Angela couldn't help but feel heavy with sadness. She knew she had no chance against Diana, but seeing her nieces' disappointment made her realize she won’t be the only one who will be deeply hurt from the decision she is about to take. She stood up lazily and got into the bathroom to take a shower. She thought of telling Doris her friend, maybe she can give them a room to stay in before she finds a good place in a far city for her and the kids. Also, she is yet to tell Jace anything, he is already registered for a football team and made many friends too. He won’t be happy moving out of this neighborhood. She closed her hot eyes and sighed. “We have no choice”. Slowly she got up from the bed and walked out of the room to meet the twins in the living room. Excitedly the twins snuggled up under the blankets, Angela asked, “So, which movie do you want to watch first? 'The Little Mermaid' Moana or 'Frozen'?” She faked a smile, handing them the pop corns. Lia and Liya exchanged excited glances. “Moana!” “All of them!” they chimed in unison, giggling. Angela smiled. “Alright, let’s go for all of them, hope you two will awake to see the three movies?” “Yes!” They chorused. Angela chuckled at their excitement. “Alright… here we go”. She started the movies, and soon they were all singing along to “Under the Sea” and then Frozen “Let It Go”. The room was filled with laughter and joy, a welcome distraction from the disappointment earlier. Angela was relieved she was able to distract the girls. However, she kept expecting a call or text from Antonio. As they moved on to the third movie, Liya turned to Angela with a thoughtful expression. “Aunt Angela, are you and Uncle charming going to be okay?” Angela's heart skipped immediately at that question. “We're all good, sweetie. Grown-up relationships can be complicated, but we always figure things out. Like I said, we are good”. She smiled. Lia nodded. “I miss him”. “Me too”. Liya replied. They have gotten really attached to him, Angela thought. It hasn’t even been two days since they saw him yet to her, it feels like an eternity, worse knowing she might not see him again. “I missed him too”. She found herself saying sadly, then the twins turned to her, she snapped out of it and forced a smile. “I know he missed you guys so much too, And who knows? Maybe next time, Antonio will come through and take you to the movies like he promised. You can watch Inside out 2" The girls smiled, and the three of them shared a warm hug, the movie night turning continued again in a lively atmosphere. Angela made sure to engage them in a conversation about the movie. As they continued with the movies, Angela noticed Lia and Liya's eyelids growing heavy with sleep, their giggles and comments slowing until they finally drifted off to sleep.
