CHAPTER
(PLAYING WITH FIRE)
“You have a melodious voice and the melody is beautiful”.
“Thanks my dear, but why not try, I will teach you if you like”.
She offered.
“Unfortunately, I sound like a frog,” Angela chuckled with an eye roll.
“You are no frog, you are more like a cat, come on it’s easy"Mama Elizabeth persisted.
After a few minutes of practice.
“Sounds really lovely,"Angela commented.
“I wrote the melody notes myself for baby Anthonio”.
Mama Elizabeth replied.
Angela stared back at Anthonio then turned to her.
“You two have a very strong connection that I admire, although he disrespects you alot".
Grandma Elizabeth smiled softly at her.
“Disrespect? I won't say that. He is just difficult to understand and likely to show his true feelings,I thought you would know by now, since you know you two dated for two years?”
Angela blinked.
“It's complicated, let's say he hid those traits from me and I fell for it”.
Grandma Elizabeth chuckled.
“Come, sit over here”.
She tapped on the seat.
Excitedly, Angela brushed off the hair strand on her face hair shyly and went over to sit as instructed.
She sat beside her like a kid yearning for a bedtime story.
“Do you truly love my grandson?”
It was a sudden question and a tricky question, because she asked her this before in the room and also now? If she confess will she leave this house for good?
“I…..mmm”.
She stole a glance at Antonio then back to her, of course she has zero feelings for him, in fact more like hate feeling for him but in this situation is not a very good idea to be frank, Grandma Elizabeth is still sick and this is not the best time to talk about it.
“Don’t worry he is very much asleep so he won't hear us,that's why I asked you this question again,I need to figure something out".
Grandma Elizabeth whispered.
"I love your grandson Ma".
She felt a disappointment inside of her knowing she had succeeded in deceiving the poor old woman.
Grandma Elizabeth smiled broadly.
“I am happy, I don’t trust any of those girls he brought home before you, I know what they’re after, and I know my grandson well enough but I think I can trust you".
She sighed and continued.
“I am yet to point out the exact thing that is special about you, but maybe it’s because all of you are special”.
“That is the sweetest thing I’ve heard in my entire life”.
Angela sobbed and hugged her.
Grandma Elizabeth chuckled and whispered
“You know, I am happy. My silly fox will be in good hands”.
Angela pulled out of the hug and looked up at her searchingly.
“Fox?”
“That's kinda a pet name I gave to him”.
“Oh…"
Angela thought a wolf would fit him more, ruthless, evil and cold then Grandma Elizabeth's words replayed in her head.
(My silly fox will be in good hands)
“Wait, what do you mean by that? In good hands, why does it sound like a farewell. You are scaring me”.
Angela snapped.
“Don’t be scared, it’s a fate we all accept”.
She replied and started humming again with her eyes closed.
Slowly Angela rested her head on her shoulder.
‘’I want you to stay,"she whispered as tears clouded her eyes.
‘’How long?"Grandma Elizabeth chuckled.
Even though she knew she only had a limited time in Montero's house, she had to make this nice woman feel the need to stay alive.
‘’Many years, years enough to carry your great grandchildren and more,”Angela replied.
A hearty chuckle escaped from Mama Elizabeth's mouth, she lifted Angela’s face and kissed her forehead.
“Nothing will make me happier, I will always be there in your heart”.
Angela's eyes clouded.
When Mama Elizabeth continued humming the song again, she closed eyes and joined her.

The next morning, Anthonio woke up only to find Angela sleeping on the couch and his grandma sitting beside her.
“You are an awake Fox”.
"Good morning Grandma, what is she doing here?"
He asked unimpressed rather than offended.
“Stop asking stupid questions, carry her to your room, the servants will get her ready for the family introduction, they must be sharpening their judging skills for her".
He glared at her for a minute, then hesistedly, carried her in his arms.
He stared down at her, as she cuddled up in his arms holding onto his neck like a baby.
A very deep sleeper, I bet she would jump if she opened her eyes and found out who was actually carrying her.
Also, she is way lighter than I thought.
His eyes went to her slightly opened lips and small face, her face, he compared her face now to when she was awake...not cute not adorable..just ...her..
He felt a rush of blood down his body.
What is this…
“Take good care of her for me, she’s very fragile".
Grandma cuts into his thoughts.
"Not my problem"
He muttered and carried her out of the room and headed to his place.
He got to their building, walked up the stairs, the guards bowed in accord,he noticed her move,he paused and looked down at her below his chin.
Sleepily she tightened her grip around his neck, making herself more comfortable. Like a little kitten she rubbed her face against his chest, the scent of the hair shampoo swept through his nostrils. Giving him a weird urge to sniff, just as he was about to consider it ,her lips brushed over the skin on his neck.
His eyes widened, and for that second he froze.
“You are playing with fire, little one”.
