Lucas’s POV

After about ten minutes of driving in the same direction, Alex said intensely “Hurry up, they drifted off the main road. Ten minutes from here. It looks like they’re headed to Tok”

“Tok? They kidnapped them so they could take them to a town thirty minutes from Snow? How dumb are these people?” I asked incredulously.

“Actually the exact opposite” said David tightly from behind.

“How is that?” I scoffed.

“They made sure they couldn’t be traced, they must have switched cars, threw away all the phones, without counting Jenny’s smart move, by the time we started worrying why they haven’t arrived home yet, would it ever occur to you to search for them right under our noses, in the nearby towns? Or would you just assume they took them as far away as they could? Whoever is behind this wants to make a joke out of us. When he finally makes himself known to us and contacts us, he’ll brag about how he fooled us and did this right in our territory without us knowing anything about it” he said methodically.

“He has a point. Whoever is behind this, he is one sick bastard” said Alex darkly.

“You think it’s related to Zade?” I asked him tensely.

He released a heavy sigh “That would be my first guess”

I tightened my hold on the steering wheel.

Angel already saw that coming in her nightmares. But I vowed to her that I will never let them become a reality.

Except they just did.

She must be scared out of her mind and drowning herself in tons and tons of self blame, guilt, and regret.

I know that girl more than I know myself by now.

She’s going to do whatever she can to protect them, and that only means one thing. She’s going to get herself hurt, or worse…killed.

“They stopped outside an abandoned wood factory. Take the next exit, Lucas” said Alex warily.

Before we arrive to the location by five minutes, Alex says in a strained voice “We need to park out of range and infiltrate the area slowly on foot. There might be lookouts guarding the place from outside. We have one element of surprise to save them before this turns into a blood bath, and we can’t risk losing it”

“Agreed” I said tightly.

We parked behind a small hill and exited the vehicles silently.

“I’m going to take a quick look around, spot how many of them are inside and outside so we could form a plan, and come back. No one moves until I return” ordered Alex sternly.

“I take the left side, you take the right. We don’t have much time, we need to save them as fast as possible before Angelina does something stupid and sacrifices herself” I said tightly.

Alex nodded and we both went in opposite directions, taking cautious, silent steps all the way there.

Surprisingly, there were no lookouts standing or guarding the entrance whatsoever. Then again, they weren’t really expecting us to be able to track them. Which is exactly the advantage we need to make use of the most. Catching them off guard and striking them fast before they know what hit them.

I peered through one of the broken windows at the back of the building, my ears catching some loud noises coming from that direction.

I saw them. They were inside the big empty hall. My eyes scanned the room like a laser taking count of every single detail in a matter of five seconds before I disappeared from view so I don’t risk being spotted.

Those five seconds were plenty of time to notice so many things. The most important, relieving one was that my angel was still alive. Not just alive but kicking as well. She was kicking the hell out of some guy wearing a suit who was obviously out of his element with her. My mom, April, and Jenny were tied up to a pipe hanging from the wall, they appeared to be okay, aside from the hanging part. There were thirteen men in total. All heavily equipped. One of them was holding a camera phone and recording everything. I knew exactly who the video was being filmed for and I’ll make sure to watch it from beginning to end once we kill them all and see what else I missed in there. The last thing I noticed was that there was only one entrance into the big hall, a heavy, metal door on the left side of it.

Well, we’re going to have to create another entrance ourselves then.

I returned back to our rendezvous point at the same time Alex did.

We discussed strategy and I told him everything I saw in there, including my distraction plan.

We were twenty five men in total.

I was going to sneak around to the other side of the entrance, plant the C4 and use the explosion as a distraction, while the assholes will be too busy and shocked looking at me and at the man made hole I’m about to make through the cement wall, they will be unknowingly turning their backs against the enemy. Alex and the rest of them will position themselves inside the hall using the loud sound of the explosion to cover up their movements and open fire before they have time to register what’s going on or recover from our unexpected surprise.

Everything went according to plan, except for one thing.

My heart sunk when I saw Angelina with a stab wound in the middle of her stomach. She was kicking ass not merely five minutes ago. How the hell did she end up handcuffed, kneeling, stabbed, and bleeding pretty heavily?

I fought through every cell in my body not to go running towards her and get her the hell out of here right this second.

We still need to kill every one of these sons of bitches first.

I watched her pass out…..or… no! No she’s not dead, just unconscious. She’s going to be okay, I tried to tell myself consistently in order to keep my head in the game.

I saw red after that. Alex and the rest opened fire and I moved quickly to the back of the hall to get out of the line of fire and untie my family from that damn pipe.

However, someone else beat me to it. Not just someone, it was the asshole in the suit I saw Angelina fighting earlier.

He coward behind my mom; hiding his body behind hers to avoid being shot at, put his filthy hand around her chest, and aimed the gun at her head.

I acted fast, disappearing behind a pillar very close behind them, when he started to look around him frantically.

The fire ceased and I knew every single one of his men is dead. There was only him left and he knew he wasn’t getting out of this alive.

I heard Alex speak tightly “Let go of her, right now. I will let you walk out of here a free man, you have my word”

The man laughed hysterically “How dumb do you think I am? No, if I’m going to die, I won’t let it go to waste, I’ll take as many as I can with me“

I showed myself to Alex, just a fraction of a second and disappeared from view back behind the pillar.

We didn’t need to communicate to know what the other person wanted to say. He understood my plan instantly and started playing his part.

Distraction.
