Lucas’s POV

*Forty Five Minutes Earlier*

“Any honeymoon destination suggestions?” I asked Alex and David, looking for a little help planning my honeymoon with Angelina after our wedding.

She had one week of vacation from college and it couldn’t have come up at a better time.

We were all gathered around in the warehouse office waiting for a new shipment to arrive through the border. Mathew and the other men were out there ready to receive it.

We had some time to spare and I tried to ask for their opinions.

“If she hasn’t been anywhere other than Seattle, you can take her anywhere and she will love it no matter where it is, as long as she has you by her side, the destination isn’t that essential” said Alex softly.

He looked to be speaking from experience and I decided to take his word for it.

When Alex and Jenny spent a month and a half away from home, I noticed how they came back even more in love with each other than before. And they were extremely madly in love even before they left, so you can imagine how much the time they spent alone together did them so much good.

Alex’s phone gave out a notification ringtone, so he took his phone out of his pocket to check it out.

I didn’t give it much thought and carried on excitedly “Well, I was thinking about taking her either to sp…..”

The words got stuck in my throat when Alex abruptly stood up from his chair with a pale face, his eyes were still glued to his phone.

“What’s wrong?” David asked in alarm.

We both stood up warily and mimicked his tense stance.

He tapped a few times on the screen then held the phone tightly to his ear as he answered us in a strained tone “Jenny is hyperglycemic. I’m calling mom to find out what happened”

Alex’s phone was connected to Jenny’s smart watch that he got for her pretty recently in Canada before they returned. It was his way of keeping tabs on her health whenever he was away from her. The new model has a feature that allows more than one phone to be connected to it and sends out notifications to both phones when it detects any health problems so that he will be able to act fast in case he wasn’t within proximity to help her himself. The watch was also equipped with a traceable GPS feature that allows him to pin her location and send an ambulance her way if he wasn’t able to reach her in time for example. It was a little extreme now since she rarely ever leaves all our sights, but when they were both alone in Canada, Alex didn’t want to risk it in case they got separated somehow and gave her the watch to keep his peace of mind.

We waited anxiously for mom to pick up the phone, but when she didn’t, Alex’s face got even paler.

“It’s turned off.... I’m calling Elliot” he said in frustration.

Elliot is one of the two men we sent with them.

I grabbed my phone and gritted “I’ll call Angelina”

David did the same and was probably calling April on his phone.

My heart sank when I heard the out of service or turned off message.

“Her phone is off too” I said in a strained voice.

I looked at Alex and saw him shaking his head at me telling me his call didn’t go through either.

We both looked at David and saw his jaw lock, he lowered his hand and also shook his head.

“That doesn’t feel right” I said tensely.

It was way too coincidental to find all their phones out of service right when Jenny was having a complication.

“I’m going to locate her watch, gather everyone in the warehouse and gear up, we’re leaving” ordered Alex stiffly.

“Wait….you’re saying….that...” David asked dreadfully but couldn’t continue his sentence.

“They’re in danger. It’s the only explanation” I said determinedly.

My body was panicking but my head was clear and focused. Perks of having a psycho mentality, it doesn’t let you succumb to dreadful thoughts and possibilities, on the contrary, it sharpens and begins analyzing everything from facts, to plans, to implementations.

“Let’s go, the faster we gather ourselves, the faster we’ll get to them” I said firmly and started moving out of the office at once, David following right behind me.

The warehouse was full of weapons, ammo, and some C4.

We geared up pretty quickly, and were out of the warehouse in the span of eight minutes, with four other cars following behind us.

I was taking the wheel with Alex in the passenger seat, David and Dean taking the back seats.

“Tell me where I’m headed” I asked Alex tensely.

“They’re still moving, but the location says they’re heading in the same direction they were on, the highway leading to Snow” said Alex in confusion while still looking at the map on his phone.

“How far from Snow?” I asked curiously.

“About forty five minutes” answered Alex tensely.

I started driving out of town, going way above the speed limit. It was a bliss that the highway is always almost empty of cars. Not many travelers driving through the highway in the middle of the week.

“How is she doing?” asked David warily.

He was asking about Jenny’s condition. Alex could monitor her rates in real time data coming from her watch.

“Above normal but not by a lot” he said tightly.

“Someone took them, and turned off all their phones so that they couldn’t be tracked. That’s what we’re thinking right?” asked David.

Alex and I exchanged a look.

“Most probably” I confirmed with my heart beating at a crazy rate, worried sick about them. I could only imagine how scared out of his mind Alex is especially when he knows how dangerous it is for Jenny to develop a complication in the worst possible timing, when she can’t be helped right on the spot. I doubt the people who kidnapped her will allow her to give herself an insulin shot to save her life.

Did they do something to her? Hurt her? Is that why her blood sugar is acting up?

Then it occurred to me…could it be? Or was it just a twisted chance of coincidental, sheer dumb luck that she happened to experience that high in order to alert us about them being in danger and lead us to them?

I shared my thoughts with Alex “Could she have done that on purpose? To give us a clue about where they were taking them?”

Alex’s face hardened and I could tell he was thinking the exact same thing.

“It was one of our contingency plans that she came up with in case she was in danger back in Canada and we got separated somehow. I’m about ninety percent sure she did this to herself on purpose before they were taken. Probably by injecting herself with her emergency glucagon shot”

“Incredibly smart of her, I’ll give her that” I told him proudly.

“Yeah, smart if you look at it from that angle, but incredibly stupid considering the possible dangerous outcome to her health” he said dryly.

“Hey, she’s tough. She can handle herself especially since she knows we’re coming for her now. She just saved all their lives, Alex. You can’t blame her for that. If she didn’t do this, we wouldn’t have had a clue about what went down, and by the time we figured it out, it could have been too late to do something” I said fiercely.

“Let’s hope it’s not too late now” he muttered under his breath.

You and me both brother. If anything happens to any of them, I’m going to rain hell on everyone involved in this damn thing.

I’ll make fucking sure of it.
