Angel’s POV

There wasn’t any back up phone like I was expecting. Instead, she had a glucagon shot in her hand, the end was pressed into the front of her thigh, the cartage empty indicating that she already gave herself the shot.

I was familiar with her condition. Or I got familiarized with it when I officially joined the family. Alex made sure everyone knows how to treat a low or high blood sugar, how to determine which one was acting up, what to use in either cases, how to use it, and where to find it. Just in case Jenny wasn’t in a position to help herself and he wasn’t there to help her.

She had a smart watch, specially designed to monitor her diabetes twenty four seven. It was the newest model. Whenever she has a problem; even though I never saw her have one with my own eyes since I moved in, her watch is supposed to gave out a loud alarm to alert her.

And judging by the lack of any alarms, I was left baffled and confused as hell.

“Jenny” I whispered in horror.

What the hell was she thinking!

Glucagon is supposed to treat low blood sugar.

But when you don’t even have low blood sugar and you give yourself an injection anyway, what happens?

She’s giving herself a high blood sugar on purpose.

But what in God’s name made her do that?

“Wait, wait! She was trying to help me save my life that’s all. I was having a diabetes problem and I had to give myself an injection, that’s all. I’m just going to take out the needle and throw it on the ground, very slowly” Jenny said in panic when she saw the gun pointed at my chest.

I’m pretty sure her alarm never went off or I would have heard it.

I still have no clue what made her do that in the middle of our abduction.

The killer spoke tightly “Do it, very slowly. And don’t try anything else or your friend will pay the price”

She pulled out the syringe and threw it on the ground.

He let go of me, stepped out of the car, and addressed Diana and April strictly “Get into the other van without making me drag you inside”

Without saying a word, Diana clutched April’s hand tightly and they both moved inside the van.

The killer slid the seat forward and motioned for us with his index silently.

We exited our car and got inside the van.

Our seating got reversed with me and Jenny behind the front seats and Diana and April sitting behind us.

The door closed and the men took a minute to speak amongst themselves.

Jenny took that opportunity to put her watch on vibration mode only, to keep it from blaring, which is going to happen shortly when her watch registers what she has done.

“What the hell were you thinking Jenny?” I whisper yelled at her in panic.

We’re already screwed without our phones, we have no idea who kidnapped us, what they plan to do with us, or how the hell we’re going to get through this alive if Lucas, Alex, and David have no clue where to find us. Why did she have to make it worse for herself?

She opened her mouth to tell me something, but she didn’t get a chance to, because the killer opened the passenger door at that moment and climbed inside, eyeing us evilly and speaking in a threatening tone “If one of you dares to do something, she’s going to get one of you shot, so if you value each other’s lives, you’ll sit tight and be completely quiet the rest of the way”

We took that warning very seriously and kept our mouths shut as the van started moving forward…..to god knows where.

My heart was contracting painfully in my chest, my limbs were trembling in pure terror, and I was going into full guilty mode.

It’s happening. It’s coming true. My nightmares, my fears, they’re taking place right in front of me and endangering the closest people to my heart, dragging them with me to pay the price of my own crime.

Without needing any confirmation or proof, I knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that this was related to Zade.

One of his loyal men found a way to get to us.

God I was so stupid for believing that the threat was over with Zade’s death.

That no one was left to take his revenge.

What if I get them all killed with me?

Alex, Lucas, and David will lose every single person they care about.

Was it worth it Angelina?

Getting a few months of complete bliss with the love of your life, being selfish, was it worth what is about to happen to these people now?

No it wasn’t.

I should have stomped on my own heart, broke Lucas’s and walked away from them.

I should have done the right thing, but I was too weak to sacrifice my happiness.

I turned my head back towards Diana and April with a face full of self blame and tears, and I was met with the kindest expression from Diana.

She was hugging April to her chest who was holding on to her desperately with tears streaming down her face. Diana could somehow see how much I was blaming myself for the situation we are in and she gave me one of her warmest smiles; despite the dire situation we were in, and mouthed inaudibly “It’s okay”

I shook my head at her and turned back to face the front again for fear of making things worse if the killer thought we were planning something.

I looked sideways at Jenny in worry and fear for her.

She looked okay, but I knew that wasn’t going to last very long.

My mind was driving me crazy by putting awful images in my head, trying to prepare me for what is going to happen once we arrive to wherever they were taking us.

I made a decision then, I won’t let anyone get hurt because of me. Over my dead body, literally. I will do whatever it takes to bear everything on myself before I watch any one of them get hurt.

With that determination in mind, I started paying attention to our destination.

They were still driving in the same direction we were taking. We were at least an hour away from Snow. There were a couple of towns located before it though and it seemed like they were taking us to one of them. There’s no way they’re stupid to take us to Snow, that’s for sure.

My thoughts got confirmed when the driver took a turn off the main road into a narrow path. There was a sign that said ‘Tok’.

I recognized the name. It was one of the small towns that were included in our gym membership.

Is that how they knew where and when they could capture us? They had help from one of those people who joined our gym recently?

Our wedding was pretty much the constant talk of the town lately, I’m sure it wasn’t hard to figure out that we would need to head out of Snow at some point before the wedding to buy some stuff.

We didn’t go into Tok directly. The car skidded to a halt at a very abandoned looking factory just at the outskirts of town, where there was a black SUV already parked there.

The van behind us parked next to us and everyone got out at once.

The killer opened the sliding door and barked at us to get out of the van.

We complied and were led inside the factory with six men surrounding us from all sides, guns ready to fire at the slightest wrong movement.

We entered into a big, dimly lit, dusty hall that had some rusty, old looking, broken equipment scattered all around.

Other than the six men who came with us, there were six other men facing us, waiting for us inside, who also clutched long rifles in their hands.

There was a young man who caught my eye the second we entered into the hall, standing in the middle of the men who were already there when we came in.

He was the only one not carrying a weapon. He also was the only one wearing formal clothes, a suit. Black pants and jacket with a white shirt underneath.

His deep blue eye color was startling. It was the same color as mine.

Just a coincidence, for sure.

But the way his eyes were glued to mine and mine only, made my knees buckle and my heart skip a couple of beats.

And it wasn’t just those things that tripled my fear, no. It was his cold, murderous glare that promised nothing but suffering and agony.
