Angelina’s POV
I swear I’m not the killer type, but he’s slowly turning me into one.
And it’s not just because of the nickname, it’s fucking everything!
His stupid sexy smug smile, his playfulness, his provocative words, his sarcastic tone, his recklessness, his over confidence in himself, his crazy, psycho side, and the list can go on forever.
And because he was so fucking irritating, I found myself pointing the fully loaded gun to the middle of his chest just to see if he is going to waver and take back those words he just said to me very confidently.
His smile deepened when I did that and he closed his eyes, his arms still stretched out, inviting and surrendering his life to me.
I should learn by now, I can never try to match his craziness and come out winning here.
“You seriously have no problem if I shot you?” I asked tightly, still aiming the gun at him.
He answered softly with his eyes closed “You won’t shoot me”
I don’t know what got into me at that moment but I just wanted to test that theory so bad. I kept my eyes on him and lowered the gun to the snowy ground to his right side, at a very considerable distance so I don’t end up accidentally shooting him, even with an untrained, terrible aim because I didn’t really want to shoot him…. For now.
I readied myself mentally for both the loud sound that will erupt and the recoil before I fired the shot.
I still flinched at the very loud pop, but kept a firm hold on the gun and maintained my position
Lucas on the other hand, He didn’t move a muscle. He didn’t even flinch or open his eyes to see if I hit him or not.
A few seconds later, he opened his eyes and gazed at me in fascination without saying anything.
I rolled my eyes and faced the target again, pointing the gun towards the first bowling pin.
He approached me slowly and started instructing me gently on the proper stance, the basics of aiming accurately by lining up the front and rear sights at the top of the gun, and the way to hold the gun firmly with both hands.
He was standing too close to me for my comfort but it’s like my body and stupid heart didn’t mind that closeness at all, unlike my brain which screamed at me to put some fucking distance.
Guess who won?
Screw you heart, you’re going to be the death of me someday.
“Aim for the wide part of the bowling pin instead of the narrow, thin head. Then gradually, as your aim improves, you can start trying hitting the head” he whispered in my ear, causing goosebumps to arise everywhere within my body, I barely controlled my shudder from escaping. He doesn’t need to know how much his closeness was affecting me, more than he already suspects that is.
“Whenever you’re ready, Angel” he said in a low voice.
I gulped and whispered in a raspy voice that doesn’t even sound like me “Do you mind stepping away?”
“Why? Am I screwing with your concentration?” he asked huskily, his breath fanning over my neck, and the shudder involuntarily escaped from me.
I closed my eyes and said through gritted teeth “No”
I opened them and took the shot.
It missed, extremely terribly I might add, as it landed so far from my target by a lot.
I pursed my lips in agitation.
“Guess I am. Now what did I say about lying to me, Angel? I’m sure you didn’t have time to forget about it” he said seductively.
I turned my head towards him, not anticipating how really close our faces were to each other. His lips were mere inches from mine.
We both looked down at our parted lips at the same time before our eyes collided again.
He leaned in, just a fraction, and before our lips touched, I did the rational thing that my mind has been screaming at me to do for the past five minutes, I stepped away from him, lowering the gun towards the ground and keeping my index on the trigger guard like he taught me so I don’t fire by mistake.
I gave him a hard look and said tightly “What the hell do you think you’re doing, Lucas? I’m sure I distinctively said; not merely an hour ago, that nothing like that can ever happen again between us”
“How come your mouth says something while your body says the exact opposite, Angel?” he asked gently.
I scoffed and shook my head “Don’t psychoanalyze me, Lucas”
“I get what you’re doing by the way” he said softly.
I raised one eyebrow “What am I doing?”
“You’re putting up imaginary walls in your head between us. Trying to convince yourself that I am playing a mind game with you, that I’m having fun, and taking advantage of you while you’re here just to get in your pants once and satisfy myself. You’re extremely wrong. That kiss meant something to me. And I’m betting it meant something to you too and that’s why you’re acting this way” he said fiercely.
“You’re wrong. The kiss didn’t mean anything to me. It was my first kiss ever and I would have felt the same way about it had it been anyone else in your place. There is nothing between us here. There can’t be” I said forcibly.
“Why not? Hmm? Because God forbid you develop feelings for me? Am I really that hateful in your eyes that you can’t even let anything happen between us?” he asked in a hard tone.
His question struck a vulnerability in him that he tried to hide behind his harsh tone, but it still slipped into his eyes regardless.
I couldn’t answer for a long time as I looked into his hurt eyes.
I felt it hurt me more than it did him. That implication that I think he’s too much of a monster for me to allow myself to form any sort of attachment to him.
He’s wrong.
It wasn’t that.
He was far from the truth that I couldn’t help myself from clarifying that to him and making damn sure he knew that I don’t really see him that way.
“You’re not hateful, Lucas” I said sincerely.
“Then what? I’m standing here telling you that my intentions are pure. That I’m not playing you. But you’re still lying about that kiss not meaning anything. You’re still pushing me away” he said strictly.
He took a couple of steps towards me until we were standing close again.
He snatched the gun from my hands and clicked the safety back on before tossing it to the ground and cupping my face softly with both hands.
“You really think you would have felt the same way if it was just some random guy kissing you? Because it was your first kiss?” he asked intensely as his light brown eyes scorched my very soul as he gazed at mine. His palms on my cheeks sending waves of….. God knows what right to my core.
“Answer me, Angel. And you better tell the truth this time” he said in a low tense voice.
“How will you even know it’s the truth? Just because you’re expecting one answer doesn’t make it the truth” I argued.
“Okay then, let me ask you another question this time. You said the kiss felt better than your imagination because it was your first one. Tell me how this feels” he ordered tightly.
Before I had time to ask him what he meant, he leaned his head down and brought his lips to mine in a deep, searing kiss. A kiss that struck every damn nerve ending I had in my body. A kiss that could have brought the dead back to life.
And fuck me!
It felt even better than my first one, and that is saying something.
That is saying that Lucas Snow just fucking branded his name into my heart with that kiss….forever.
