Lucas’s POV
“Just when I think you can’t get any crazier, you prove me wrong yet again” said Alex in a strained voice.
“Nothing brings me more joy than knowing that I can still get to surprise you, brother” I said dryly.
Instead of Alex going off on me like I was expecting once I was done telling him everything, I heard another fiery, feisty voice that I’m too proud to admit that I’ve missed so damn much as if we knew each other for decades, and she was royally pissed off at me from the sound of it “Lucas Snow, you total asshole! What the hell is wrong with you treating the girl like that! You never learn from your mistake, do you? And don’t you dare lie to me and tell me you don’t feel fucking guilty for everything you’ve done to her because you do! You need to apologize to her as soon as she wakes up! I don’t give a fuck if it will ruin your super evil plan to reveal what she’s hiding, or show the soft side of you I know so damn well it exists even if you claim that it doesn’t!”
I wince at the extreme anger emanating from Jenny’s voice.
“What happens if I don’t?” I ask her smugly, even though the situation didn’t need my playfulness at all but I couldn’t resist, pressing on my family’s nerves is kind of my favorite pass time.
“I’ll come to Snow and kick your ass myself” she said darkly, no doubt meaning every single word.
I chuckled at her dark humor. Not very long ago, I hated her forced existence into our lives. I was so fucking mean towards her, I even drove a knife a mere inch above her head once, causing her so much terror that it was a miracle she didn’t pass out right there. But that was all before I got to know her really well and got to know what a wonderful, kind hearted person she really is that she even forgave my very stupid mistakes and accepted me in her life. And it was from that moment that she became my sister that I liked to mess with every chance I got, because that was how I show my love. As twisted as it seems, It’s just who I am. And my family accepted that about me. Even though they get mad at me, shout at me, and claim they hate me, I know deep down they recognize that I show my love in a different, twisted kind of way and they don’t hold what I do or say to them against me. They just learned to love me and embrace me like that.
“I’m dead serious Lucas” she threatened coldly.
“Fine, I’ll apologize to her” I said soberly.
I was planning to do that anyway. Because I can’t bear it if she hated me so much, she could hate me a little but not to the extent that she completely wipes me off, that would bring my whole plan to fall down.
“Good, now you can have your brother back” she said in satisfaction.
“I think Jenny pretty much summed up what I needed to say to you” he said proudly.
My brother was smitten with his wife, and it really surprises me every time I hear the unmistakable tone of love for her in his voice.
After his fiancée; whom I’ve never really liked but refrained from speaking my opinion to him out loud when he was with her, left him because she wanted nothing to do with the danger we were getting involved in to avenge our father’s murder, I thought he would never open his heart again to any other woman, or at least not for a very long time.
But he surprised the heck out of me when he told me that he was falling in love with his wife. The girl who hated him so immensely the first few days she came to live with us, and wanted nothing to do with him. But they both went through so much together in a very short amount of time, I felt so happy to see them sticking together through it all and still be so damn happy with each other.
“Thanks for sticking by my side and defending me” I said sarcastically.
“Fuck you, you deserved every single thing she said, keep me updated” he said strongly before he hung up while I just laughed under my breath.
I wouldn’t consider the talks between me and Alex great, unless I force him to curse me at least once. That’s like saying ‘I love you’ or ‘take care’ in my book.
After I hung up with Alex, Mathew texted me to come to the guest living room because the guy I sent the locked phone to was here with the now unlocked device.
I got out of the my bedroom and headed straight into our other living room, which was located on the same floor.
It was a huge room filled with long black leather couches. It had two entrances, one from inside the house, and a separate entrance through an outer staircase from the front yard.
I walked inside and saw Mathew, David, and the guy already sitting, waiting for me.
The guy was about my age, short, thin, with light brown hair and hazel eyes.
I went over and shook hands with him as I asked him “What’s your name?” he was from our town, and even though we had a small population, that doesn’t mean I have to remember ever single person’s name.
“It’s Jasper” he said politely.
“Tell me what you found Jasper” I ordered firmly.
He cleared his throat and spoke firmly “Everything was already deleted from the phone once I cracked the lock code but I was able to retrieve everything ever deleted from it since it was purchased, there weren’t a lot of things retrieved which leads me to believe the phone was purchased or used only recently, I only got a week old information from it. First, the call log, only one number, unregistered to any name of course, a Canadian one”
It belongs either to Damian or his second hand. His second hand used to be Daniel, his brother, but that was before we killed him about a month ago, now I have no idea who his second in command is.
I nod my head for Jasper to keep going.
“No photos taken or received at all. Only a couple of texts back and forth between the same number and that’s all” he said firmly as he fumbled with the phone, opening the messaging app then handing it to me to read for myself.
Four days ago:
“317 Harvard Ave E, Apartment 2”
The Canadian number replies:
“Keep tabs, make arrangements for travel, go time on Friday”
Friday was two days ago, the day Angelina was probably taken from that address in Seattle.
Then two days ago:
“We have the girl, everything under control. We’re on the ferry”
That was all.
I turn to Jasper and say briefly “Thanks for everything Jasper, you may go”
He nods his head and leaves through the door leading out of the house through the outer staircase.
I give the phone to Mathew who reads the texts then passes it to David to do the same.
“Our men, are they still in Seattle after delivering the last shipment?” I asked Mathew tightly.
“Yes, I believe they are still getting their truck fixed up there, it broke down on them twice on their way there” he said seriously.
“Who are they?” I asked him curiously.
“That would be Stewart, Adam, and Dan, they’re solid, want them to check out that address?” he guessed.
“Yes, but they need to be discreet. I don’t want Zade finding out that we’re digging after him, he probably still thinks his men are still transporting her. When he calls again I want to be able to have the right answers to rattle him. They also need to lay low from attracting other people’s attention, so they don’t get reported for breaking and entering into that apartment. It needs to be tonight though, give them the call right now to start casing the place from afar” I said strictly.
“You got it” he said with a nod as he got up and headed outside to make the call.
