Lucas’s POV
Angelina was still pouring her heart out under the shower in what could only be described as heart breaking agony.
The sounds of her distressed weeping was sending shivers and waves of pain inside me. I wanted nothing more than to go in there and hold her tightly to my body, tell her she’s not alone, comfort her, console her, and apologize to her for everything.
But I couldn’t do any of those damn things I was dying to do. Not if I wanted my plan to work.
Suddenly, the door to her room opens and mom walks in with sadness in her eyes. But when she notices me leaning against her bathroom door, her sad eyes turn angry as she whispers in a low angry voice “What the hell are you doing here Lucas? You’re the last person she wants to see or hear from right now!”
Before I could answer her, another soul destroying weep came from inside, and I watched instant tears appear inside my mom’s eyelids as she put her hand to cover her mouth.
I also saw recognition in her eyes as well.
She knows exactly why the girl is crying in there because I bet she was also familiar with those sounds.
“I’m not going to do anything and neither are you. I just want to make sure she doesn’t end up hurting herself or something” I whispered back to her even though we could speak at a normal volume and Angelina wouldn’t even hear us over her emotional melt down in there.
“We can’t just pretend like we didn’t hear anything!” she complained in anguish.
“We don’t have a….” my sentence got cut off when the sobbing got cut off very abruptly.
We froze for a few seconds, waiting for her to make any other sounds, but there was only the shower running.
I acted immediately and tried to open the door, but it was locked.
My mom cast me a glare and motioned for me to keep my mouth shut as she knocked on the door and said in a high voice “Hope! Are you okay in there? Can you answer me? Hope?”
No answer came from inside and I was done waiting as my heart was racing against my chest from utter fear for her.
I pushed my mother aside gently and started knocking down the door with my shoulder.
It took three tries but eventually it flew off the hinges and collapsed on the ground.
I didn’t waste a second as I hurried inside to take a look, my mom right behind me.
She was lying; passed out definitely, on her side with her knees folded into her chest on the shower floor, her naked back to us, the water splashing her lower unmoving body.
“Go get Sara and stay outside, Lucas!” my mom opened the glass, transparent shower door, hurried over to her and turned off the water.
I moved right away and called Sara over to help mom with drying and dressing her.
I stood outside her bedroom anxious to lay my eyes on her.
David joined me when he heard the commotion outside his room which was next to mine.
“What happened?” he asked in confusion.
I relayed what happened in a strained voice and watched the sadness for her overwhelm him as well.
“Was it because of…what you said in the living room?” he asked carefully.
I shook my head “No, it’s much more deeper than that”
Sara emerged out of the room looking for me, I immediately straightened up and asked her anxiously “Did she wake up?”
“No, we need you to lift her up from the floor and lay her on the bed, she’s still passed out” said Sara nervously.
I walked inside the room and into the bathroom.
Angelina was laying on her back on the floor outside the shower, fully dried, and dressed in a white thick long sleeve shirt, and long jogger pants.
She looked so pale and weak, causing my heart to contract in pain at the sight of her so broken like that.
“Shouldn’t we take her to the hospital?” I asked mom in a strained voice.
“No need. I checked her blood pressure and it was very low but after we dried her and raised her legs for sometime it became normal again. She also has a high fever, I’m guessing from all that stress she’s been through. Sara is bringing me an injection to reduce it and the first aid kit to redo her bandages. Move her to the bed so I can stay with her and monitor her bp and fever” she said firmly.
I bent down and lifted her into my chest. She was so lightweight, she weighed nothing in my arms.
Her head rested against my shoulder and I resisted from bending my head and smelling her.
I walked with her in my arms until I reached the king sized bed and waited as my mom removed the covers, then I lied her down on the side of it while mom sat on her other side.
“You can leave” she said dismissively.
I knew why she was speaking to me that way. Even though I wasn’t the direct reason for her condition, no one can deny that I was a huge cause for it.
I looked at her face one last time before I got out of the room and closed the door behind me quietly. I went straight into my room, locking myself in there for hours, not even bothering to come down for lunch as I had no appetite.
I was in war with myself over my behavior with that girl.
What was it about her that drew me in so fucking fast?
Would I have felt the same kind of power that was drawing me in to her if it was just any other girl or was there something about her in particular that rattled me from the inside out and made me question every single thing I do or say to her?
I didn’t know what to make of my confused feelings.
Was I really drawn to her or was it only the mystery she represented for me, the challenge of trying to figure her out?
The best answer to those questions would be to find out who she is as soon as possible. Only then will my feelings be distinguished and identified as just a thrill or something else. If it was something else, then I am so fucking screwed. Because I’m most certainly the last person on earth she could ever fall for.
On one hand she despises my very soul after everything I’ve just put her through; and I have a feeling that I will keep screwing with her because I know myself too damn much, and on the other hand I’m not the kind of man that a girl like her should ever think about falling in love with. Because I will only end up breaking her heart and hurting her more than anyone else in this world.
It’s just who I am. And no matter how much I claim I can change, one thing remains. I’m still a psychopath and that is a characteristic I can never get rid of.
At some point, I decide to call Alex and tell him about the whole thing.
I knew he was anxiously waiting to hear whether his information was correct or not.
It was five in the afternoon.
“Lucas, tell me you have something please” said Alex curiously as soon as he picked up the phone.
I smirked “No hello, how are you, how’s everyone?”
“Don’t make me curse you over the phone, I’ve been worried like hell waiting for you to call, I almost called David or Mathew as I got bored of waiting for you!” he said intensely.
“Glad you didn’t. I’m sure their version of what happened would totally suck and downplay the mastery I’ve done today” I said sarcastically.
“What happened?” he asked rigidly, already sensing that I went overboard with something.
With a heavy sigh, I told him every single thing that happened, excluding how much the girl fucking affected me since my eyes met her magical deep blue ones that were still haunting me the entire time I was speaking to my brother.
