On The Border - Marry Him Or Die

Angelina’s POV

The trip in the car was very short, I didn’t even have time to ponder over what Lucas has in store for me once he comes into the office.

He promised that no one will harm me, but he didn’t include himself in that promise. Whether I was reading too much into his words or he really meant to exclude himself was unknown to me. All I know is, I want to get away from him as soon as possible, if that was even possible anymore.

His tone was sincere and when I opened my eyes to look at him, as he saw my fear of him, I noticed how hurt he really was that he managed to scare me so damn much. It was like he lost control of himself and only after, did he realize what he had done. But it was too late, because I want nothing to do with him now. I just want him to stay as far away from me as possible, guilty or not, good or not, gentle or not, merciful or not, willing to help me despite my father or not, I didn’t want to find out anymore about him than I already did in those twenty minutes alone.

David opened the door and helped me down by holding my elbow firmly.

I was still shaking terribly, I felt like the snow I sat on during my nervous break down went straight through my bones.

David was being gentle with me, I noticed.

I was barely able to walk properly and he managed to carry most of my weight. He didn’t drag me nor touch me in places he has no business touching. He seemed to be the kindest of them all, especially since he only stopped Lucas for me, to stop me from hurting anymore.

We walked inside the warehouse. It was pretty big and filled with a lot of huge boxes everywhere.

We kept walking inside until we reached a closed door which I assumed was the office.

We walked inside and David hit the lights as there were no windows to allow the light outside to seep through.

“You can sit if you want. I will leave you alone to rest until Lucas comes back” Said David gently to me.

I was standing in the middle of the office while he was standing by the door.

“What will he do to me? Please tell me” I said in a shaky small voice.

“I have no idea what he intends to do but I do know one thing, he won’t hurt you. You don’t have to be scared of him, Hope. He’s not the bad guy you think he is” he said softly before he closed the door and locked it.

Should I believe his words? Hell no.

Just because he stopped Lucas for me doesn’t mean I can trust him now.

I don’t know why I bothered to ask him if I wasn’t going to believe him.

Maybe I wished he would confirm my fears so I don’t have to drive myself crazy just from imagining the worst things he could do to me.

I looked around the office, trying to find something I could use to protect myself with.

I was going to fight him off as best as I could, or I’ll die trying. I won’t give up without putting up a hell of a fight.

The office was small and pretty bare.

It had a small wooden desk with many papers and folders on it, a computer, and some pens. There was a desk chair behind the desk, and two wooden chairs in front of it, facing each other with a small round table between them.

There was also a file cabinet on the furthest corner.

OK, first things first Angelina. Try to free your hands from your back.

Even though that asshole shortened the chain very much, I still tried to pass my hands from behind my thighs.

There was a column in the middle of the room, right next to one of the wooden chairs that I leaned against and tried to push my hands through with all the strength I still had left in me.

I muffled my screams of agony as I felt fresh blood trickling down from the intensity of my pulls, but to no avail.

I couldn’t do it.

I fell on the ground right there, My forehead touching the cold ground as I sobbed my desperation quietly and allowed the panic I was trying so hard not to let it consume me to take over. Just for fifteen seconds. I gave myself fifteen seconds only to accept the fact that I was pretty powerless, helpless, and very much screwed if Lucas did have a twisted sick plan for me; which most probably he does.

After the fifteen seconds were over, I raised myself up, propping myself on the column behind me until I was no longer dizzy, then proceeded to look through the desk drawers to find myself any sort of weapon I can use.

I found what I wanted in the second drawer, a sharp letter opener. That will do.

I turned around, crouched down until my tied hands caught it, then closed the drawer back.

I hid the weapon behind the waste of my jeans and covered it with my shirt.

I went back and rested my back against the pillar as I awaited my fate.

I tried very hard not to think about anything. Because whatever I think about, it will only lead to one result and that is me in a fetal position, crying my eyes out and choking to death with my weeping. I couldn’t allow these people to see me so vulnerable, more than I already was.

I don’t have to wait for very long, thank God. Because if something was about to happen; bad or good, I’d rather get it over with rather than spend time waiting for it and driving myself nuts with thinking about it.

I hear the lock pop, and the door opens revealing Lucas, alone.

He closes the door but doesn’t lock it and walks slowly towards me with a tensed expression on his face.

I instinctively plastered my back against the pillar as I had no where to run inside this already small office. My hands traced the bulge inside the back of my pants where my letter opener was hidden, assuring myself that I will always have a fighting chance to harm him if he ever tries to do something to me.

He stopped when he saw me cower into the pillar and tracked my tears which resumed falling on their own.

I hate myself for appearing so weak, but there was an advantage to appearing helpless, it makes the enemy underestimate his prey, giving me a greater chance at catching him off guard.

His face contorted in pain for a flash of a second before a serious one took over.

“I’m not going to hurt you Hope, I know promising that will not make you believe me, not after what you just saw me do, but I’m being honest. I apologize because I made you see something like that, it wasn’t my intention to scare you like that. But these men got what they deserved” he said firmly.

I couldn’t keep my mouth shut as I answered him with a trembling voice as the memory of that merciless torture was still running through my head “No one deserves to die like that”

His eyes narrow at me and he says bitingly “And choking him to death slowly, taking away his air while cutting his neck with a chain was what he deserved? Because you had no problem with that when you were the one doing it”

“I didn’t have much of a choice, did I? It was the only thing I had. While all you had to do was put a bullet in his head like you did the first one, but you preferred to feed your psychopathic sadism instead!” I screamed at him in disgust, which was a very stupid thing to do considering I just saw him torture a man to death, and enjoy the hell out of it.

He raised one eyebrow at me and tilted his head slightly, and I waited; with my heart in my throat, for him to take a swing at me or shoot me for saying what I said in that tone.
