Angelina’s POV
Just as the driver said that name, abrupt, very loud music started playing ahead.
I recognized the song immediately.
It was Stay by Justin Bieber.
I blinked a few times and even shook my head, thinking I was hearing that song in my head because it made no total sense to be played in such a situation. With men holding guns against us on a high mountain road in god knows where Alaska.
Then I saw him.
I had no doubt in my head, that was the man they just said his name with deep fear.
Lucas Snow.
My eyebrows shot up to my forehead and my mouth opened in confusion, because the man was singing and dancing to the music like he had no fucking care in the world.
He was the only one dancing and the only one not holding a gun in his hand.
The first impression that comes to mind when seeing that man had nothing to do with that terror I heard in these men’s voices and I wondered why they were afraid of him that much. My first impression would be thinking the man was a little… unstable.
“How the fuck did they know we were coming?” the killer hissed in anger.
“It doesn’t matter, we’re both so dead” said the driver rigidly causing my heart to drop a little, before turning to me with the most serious face I’ve ever seem him put on; which furthermore confirmed how dangerous the situation really is.
He spoke in a hurry “Listen to me very carefully, that man is going to drag us out of the car in a minute and ask who you are. If you think for one second about telling him your real identity and who your father is, believing it will save you, it will be the last mistake you ever make. He won’t save you, but he won’t kill you either, he’s just going to do things to you that you’ll wish you were dead instead. He’s one of your father’s enemies and he’ll stop at nothing to get to your father and murder him, he will use you in the most gruesome way in order to get to him and he won’t think twice about hurting you because he's the maniac of his family. That’s why you’re going to keep your mouth shut about who you are, and play nice until someone else comes and saves you from him. I’m not lying about any of this but if you think I’m bluffing, stay quiet and see what’s about to happen shortly, you’ll see for yourself then”
I gulped slowly as I registered his words “why is he hell bent on finding him?” I asked shakily.
“He got his father killed two months ago, his brother and sister in law followed behind a month later. You can imagine how blood thirsty he is to get his hands on anyone related to him to repay the favor, what do you think he’ll do when he finds out that he has his hands on his daughter?” he said dead serious.
My breath hitched, my eyes watered, and my heart drowned in the same terror that claimed them earlier, I didn’t understand why then until now as I looked at him, at Lucas.
He was still singing along with Justin very enthusiastically and dancing out very excitedly, moving his body exactly with the beat.
He looked young, early twenties maybe with blond messy hair and a short stubble beard a shade darker than his hair color. I couldn’t see his eye color from there. But I could see that he was tall, lean, but still pretty muscular. Learning what my father had done to his family, my entire impression of him changed.
He looked lethal, in a very crazy, unpredictable sort of way.
I was left without a doubt that what the driver said was true, and wasn’t just a ruse to get me to keep my mouth shut so I don’t try to seek his help and save myself. I speak, I’m dead, or worse than dead, according to them.
Lucas sings the next verse while looking at us directly.
“When I’m away from you, I miss your touch”
He points his forefingers at us “You’re the reason I believe in love”
And carries on “It’s been difficult for me to trust
And I’m afraid that I’ma fuck it up
Ain’t no way that I can leave you stranded
Cause you ain’t ever left me empty handed”
He points at us again then at himself while shaking his head lastly “And you know that I know that I can’t live without you”
Finally his pointed fingers motion for us to get out of the car as he sings “So baby stay”
To an innocent bystander, this scene would look hilarious. But to me, it looked so very disturbing.
He continued living the spirit of the song right until it ended, and that’s when the music stopped and his expression changed entirely as he pierced the two men sitting in front of me with a death glare. Long gone was the carefree man singing and dancing two seconds ago, as he got replaced with what appeared to be a cold blooded killer.
The driver said to me through gritted teeth without turning to look at me “Stay here and don’t utter a word”
They both got out of the car then and proceeded to walk towards Lucas and his men.
They stopped at a short distance from them and exchanged a few words I couldn’t hear.
Then, two men headed towards the car and started searching through the front seats, extracting two guns from the glove compartment.
One of the men opened the door to my left and froze when he saw me.
“Lucas, you should come see this” said the man looking at me appraisingly.
The man was old, maybe in his fifties, he had black, grey hair, medium beard with the same color as his hair, and dark blue eyes. His eyes didn’t exactly scream evil killer, but they didn’t hold a lot of assurance to me either.
My heart was threatening to come out of my chest at that moment.
I changed my position; as much as I could in my tied up state, by propping my back against the right door and facing whoever was standing in front of the left open door.
From the corner of my eye, I saw Lucas moving towards the car and I felt my heart just about ready to give up on me from the amount of terror that coursed through it as he approached me.

Lucas’s POV
I knew what I was about to see inside that backseat when Mathew called me over to take a look.
I was prepared for it.
I knew she was going to be there, I was expecting her, waiting for her all day after all.
But she still caught me off guard when my eyes landed on her extremely terrified, dark blue eyes.
She was facing me directly, pushing herself as far away as she could from me, gluing her back against the other door.
I found myself; involuntarily, inspecting her thoroughly from head to toe.
She had very curly, voluminous, dark blond, long hair that reached the middle of her chest, that was parted to the side at the front, obscuring a small part of her face. Extremely scared, dark blue eyes. White flawless skin except for a beauty mark on her face; a small, dark brown mole on her right cheek above her lips which were heart shaped, full, and pink in color. There was a little blood on the side of her mouth, as if someone hit her there.
She was shaking from what I assume were both fear and the freezing cold because she wasn’t exactly dressed for the extremely snowy Alaskan weather. She was wearing a half sleeve, grey, fitted shirt that didn’t look very warming, black skinny jeans, and black, leather, flat, ankle boots.
She caught me off guard because I was expecting to see a woman in her thirties or late twenties in the least, but I ended up with a little girl who looked to be about my sister’s age.
I ignored the way my heart ached to wipe that scared look off her face. She was genuinely afraid of me even though she never met me before. I wondered what the assholes told her about me that got her shaking like a leaf at the sight of me.
Scared can be good, it will lead to faster, more honest answers. I don’t want to be her friend, I want to be her worst nightmare, in her eyes of course but not in reality. I would never harm an innocent woman; that’s if she was even innocent, it wasn’t who I was raised to be. But fear makes people spill the truth and leaves no room for lying or deceit.
I hardened my face and addressed her coldly “Get out of the car”
She gulped visibly but didn’t move a muscle at my command, so I tried again, more assertively this time as I threatened her darkly “Get out on your own or you will leave me no choice but to drag you out forcibly”
Without waiting for her to comply, I turned around and walked back towards the two men that were in the car with her. I knew she was going to do the right thing and get out on her own.
