On The Border - Marry Him Or Die

Alex’s POV

I was so drained and tired, I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow that night.

But I woke up earlier than usual. My mind was still spinning with so many details about the plan I sat all day yesterday developing on my own to lure my uncle back into town on his own.

I couldn’t leave Snow and go to Canada to end him myself, I needed him to come to me. To face all of us when he admits that he killed his brother for power. I wanted him to die here, in the same place where he buried his brother with his own hands. He killed him and grieved at his funeral! It couldn’t get anymore degrading and disgusting than that.

The plan was risky as hell. But I couldn’t think of a better safer one.

I couldn’t tell anyone about it until the day it has to be carried on in, not even Lucas. Especially not Lucas.

If he finds out that David was not being honest with us, he will tear him limb from limb on the spot. He will not be able to keep a straight face as we wait for the plan to go into motion. And frankly, It was so fucking hard for me as well. Looking a traitor in the eye and acting indifferent while he strategizes to end all of us to get his father the leadership, was going to be almost unbearable to handle.

That’s part of the reason why I wanted to escape to Fairbanks for a while. Fully knowing that nothing will happen in my absence because my uncle and Lord Z will be too busy setting up my assassination attempt.

I had called my uncle yesterday at night and conveyed to him that one of our distributors has a new weapons deal and needs a new shipment as soon as possible.

I had told him that after our last operation went without any problems, I believed that there was no need to take extra measures. That it will be just me, Lucas, David, Mathew, and the security guards in charge of protecting that border entrance who will be handling this next operation, just like old times.

He didn’t bother to ask me to be cautious and take extra men with me, on the contrary, he tried to insinuate to me what he heard from a reliable source within Lord Z’s circle. He was moving on after his plan to get our clans to kill each other massively failed and decided to find another way to smuggle his drugs from. We were no longer staring down the barrel’s gun. He continued to reassure me though, that he will not rest until he kills him and gets us the revenge that he was long overdue for.

I managed to tell him as sincerely as possible that I am trusting him blindly to successfully accomplish that plan.

He said he’d get back to me as soon as the shipment date becomes determined.

And now all that was left was to sit and wait.

That was the perfect opportunity for my uncle to get rid of me to take over my place.

I bet my entire arm that the truck that will be supposedly carrying the shipment will be filled with Lord Z’s men. Uncle Stefan can simply say that the truck must have been attacked halfway to Snow and got hijacked without him knowing about anything.

I specified to him the particular border entrance I need the shipment to come from.

That particular side was filled with high hills where all of the clan could be hiding behind, ready for the battle my uncle will send my way.

As soon as those men come out of the van, they will see an entire army waiting for them, and may they never rest in peace but rot in the deepest pits of hell.

The real plan begins after that part.

The most important and reassuring thing was, Jacob turned out to be okay.

He finally called me back last night before I came home and confirmed that he left Yukon and resided in Ontario. He registered himself into college and was starting his first semester soon.

I couldn’t bring myself to tell him about our uncle’s betrayal. He seemed genuinely happy to get away from that life, and I didn’t want to drag him back into it.

I get up, have a refreshing shower to clear my jumbled thoughts, pack a small bag for myself, and get out of the room while Jenny was still soundly sleeping.

I put the bag in my trunk, then saunter over to the kitchen.

I say good morning to mom and Sara who were just about to start the process of preparing breakfast.

“You’re up early” my mom hinted with worry filling her face.

I couldn’t hide anything from her, as hard as I always try.

She could always feel when I’m going through something.

“I wanted to get an early start to prepare for my ride to Fairbanks. I want to go with Jenny and catch a little break from everything, just for a couple of days” I said softly to her.

She seemed surprised but recovered fast as she said with a smile “That sounds really good. You both deserve to have a good time. Is she okay with it, traveling alone with you?”

That was the hardest part. I know my mom would never agree to the idea of dragging her down with me against her will.

“No, she tried to decline my offer but I won’t take no for an answer” I said tightly.

She begins to protest but I cut her off gently “Please mom. I need this, we both need this even if she’s too stubborn to admit it. I don’t want you to stand in my way or be upset with me when I force her to come with me. But I promise you this, when we come back, she will come back very happy and delightful, I’ll make sure of it”

She purses her lips and says forcibly “I don’t know what to say Alex. She won’t like being forced and if she turns to me for help…”

“She won’t have a chance to. Just leave everything to me, mom. Sara, I need you to pack a small bag for her and make sure you put her medical bag, her wallet, and her phone in it. As soon as she comes here for breakfast, you can go prepare it, and put it in my trunk discreetly please”

“You got it Alex” she said gently.

I go outside to catch some fresh air and gather all my emotions so I don’t let my true emotions appear in front of David at breakfast. I need to be on my best behavior and act as carefree as possible.

It wasn’t going to be so hard for I was ecstatic about what was going to happen after we finish with our breakfast. Jenny will explode on me no doubt, when she hears what I planned for her today.

And I was more than excited to watch her reactions.

They always delight the heck out of me.

I come back inside purposefully late and sit in my usual chair as the last one to arrive at the table.

We eat our breakfast in silence and I resist the urge to sneak looks at Jenny.

I’ll have plenty of time to sneak looks at her, in Fairbanks.

I finish my last bite, wipe my mouth with the napkin, take a sip of water, and say firmly “I’m going to Fairbanks today for a couple of days. Lucas, make sure you deliver the last shipment to its destination by today. I need the warehouse cleared because uncle Stefan will ship us a large one very soon”

I couldn’t help but notice the sharp look that came over David’s features, but I instantly shifted my gaze back to Lucas.

“You go it. So…. Fairbanks, new business opportunity?” he asked curiously.

I chose the exact moment Jenny was about to sip water from her glass, to answer Lucas smugly “No actually this is not for business. It’s for our honeymoon, little brother”

To say Jenny wasn’t expecting that answer to ever come out of my mouth, would be a major understatement.

I physically couldn’t control the small chuckle that escaped my mouth when she spit out the water and started coughing violently, as the water clearly went down the wrong pipe from utter shock.

I composed myself and started patting her small back delicately, while she glared at me murderously as she continued to cough.

“You okay?” I asked innocently.

She was staring at me with wide eyes still unable to find her voice.

“Honeymoon to Fairbanks? come on there are much nicer places to go to!” Lucas complained sarcastically. He was also enjoying her reaction.

Everyone knew of course that I wasn’t being serious about the honeymoon part.

Almost everyone.

“There is no honeymoon! And I thought I made it clear last night that I didn’t want to go Alex” she said in a barely contained rage.

I turned to her coldly, all traces of my earlier humor wiped away as I said “You did, I just chose not to listen to what you wanted. Come on, we need to be on our way, I want to catch the day early so we have more time to explore the city” I got up and offered her my hand to take.

She stood up; her green eyes spewing fire, smacked my outstretched hand away and spoke stubbornly “You can’t force me into something I so clearly don’t want, I’m not going anywhere with you, enjoy your trip alone”

She was about to walk past me when I lifted her up onto my right shoulder and started walking out through the kitchen’s back door. I could hear Lucas and April snickering while my mom chastised them strictly.

She squealed in surprise and started shouting “What the hell! Alex!! Put me the fuck down!”

I ignore her and keep moving through the front yard.

She starts banging on my back viciously with her fists, and I smack her ass hard with the palm of my hand.

It was the first time I actually laid a hand on her in minor physical pain but damn, it felt good. I always let her get away with her snarky attitude and she so had it coming. Especially now, because she was hiding stuff from me and lying about them. I’ve told her so many times that she shouldn’t do that with me.

“Alex!” she screams in agitation.

I open the door and deposit her gently into the passenger seat before I close it.

I go to the other side and get in.

She was trying to pry the door open, but I had locked it already, anticipating her action.

She turned to me with clear anger etched into her face “Let me out right this second! This is kidnapping!”

“Who the hell kidnaps his wife Jenny?” I asked sarcastically.

She hits my chest once forcibly “Fake wife Alex and don’t you forget it! Let me out of here I don’t want to go anywhere with you!”

“Give me one good reason why you don’t want to come with me, and I’ll let you out right now” I said firmly.

She pursed her lips as she tried to steady her very ragged breathing.

“Because I don’t want to go anywhere with you” she said finally through clenched teeth.

“Not good enough” I start the car and start backing away.

“What! There is no better reason than that! What else do you want me to say?” she asks incredulously.

“Put your seatbelt on” I order her tightly.

“No” she looks at me challengingly.

I hit the brakes roughly causing her to barely catch herself from flying into the windshield by placing her hands on the dashboard.

I address her coldly “If you don’t want that to happen again, I suggest you put your seatbelt on. It’s going to be a long ride to Fairbanks, Jenny. Might as well enjoy the ride, safely”
