Jenny’s POV
As soon as Sara closed the door to Alex’s room, I heard someone shout in rage, and I slightly flinched at the unexpected high sound.
“Are you out of your freaking mind Alex? Why the hell did you bring that asshole’s daughter here?”
If I had to guess who that voice belonged to, I’d go ahead and say it was Lucas. Judging from the look of pure hatred he was directing at me in the living room, he was not so happy with me moving in here, apparently.
That whole introduction in the living room freaked the hell out of me.
I was more than glad to leave and come to this room where no one can do anything to me, well, except for Alex.
I couldn’t help but notice that the person who killed my father wasn’t in the room. It was finally confirmed, it must have been Jacob, the middle son.
My gut told me they must have sent him away to protect him. Since I knew he was the murderer, they assumed I’d point fingers at him right away.
Sara starts showing me around the room, the bathroom, and the walk in closet, but I didn’t pay her any attention. I just wanted her to leave me alone and let me sulk in peace.
As she bends down to open one of the suitcases that were left in the middle of the closet, I stop her and speak for the first time.
“I can unpack my own things, you don’t have to help me with it” I said plainly.
She looked up and asked kindly “Are you sure? It’s no problem for me, dear”
“I appreciate it, but I want to do my own unpacking, please” I said in the same tone.
I didn’t want to be rude, but I really needed her to leave me the hell alone, right now.
She nods her head and says “Ok then, I will leave you to rest. Do you want anything from me before I leave?”
“Is there a Wi-Fi in this house?” I asked hopefully.
Without internet, my life would literally become hell on earth.
“Yes, of course. It’s Snow”
Of course it is, I thought sarcastically.
“The password?”
“Oh it’s accessible without one”
I nodded my head and waited for her to leave.
As soon as I heard the door close, I collapsed on the floor of the closet right away.
I was barely holding myself together in front of them, it was so exhausting mentally, physically, and emotionally.
A swirl of all negative emotions were racing to destroy me, to make me lose my mind and just huddle in the corner of the darkest place I could find inside my head, and just stay there… forever.
Where should I start?
The fear? The hatred and loathing? The bitterness? The hopelessness of it all? Or breaking me into submission forcefully by threatening to give me back to my uncle?
He thought I agreed to this to save the town.
He thought I married him to save my clan, like he did.
I wanted to scream at him right there that I didn’t give a damn about any of them.
If it wasn’t for my mother, I would have gladly watched them all burn in their own hell.
But I bit my tongue harder to keep myself from talking back at him again and did the most humiliating thing I ever had to do in my life, I cast my eyes down, I surrendered to him, to his commands. It took every ounce of power not to sob and scream in front of him.
It took every bit of self control not to scream at the top of my lungs and tell him how much I fucking hate him for doing this to me.
But I didn’t want him to see how much he was able to break me.
How much he made my heart tremble and shiver in pure fear.
He was scary as hell.
Even scarier than my father ever was, believe it or not.
And yet, I found it within me to open my mouth twice and retort.
It was rather surprising, how well I have adjusted to the probability of receiving pain, and how careless I became about it.
I guess after my uncle brutalized the living hell out of me last night, after I actually survived it, my mind figured that nothing would hurt me more than that beating I received.
Oh how much I wanted to see the extent that he was willing to go to make me obey him, how much I didn’t give a damn about his punishment even though my insides were screaming with fear. But he should be grateful that I wanted to protect my mom and get her to safety first.
All in good time Alex Snow, all in good time.
You just wait until no one can threaten me with my mother again, until she is no longer in danger, I will show you what it truly takes to break someone like me, mark my words.
That traumatizing confrontation in the front yard with Alex left me so weak.
My watch triggered an alarm right in the middle of it.
I sneaked a look at it to stop it from beeping when he turned his back to me to let me gather myself outside.
I was hypoglycemic.
It was expected with me skipping my breakfast, not to mention the never ending stress.
I was shaking badly; as one of the symptoms of hypoglycemia, when I entered that living room. I tried to hide it and clutch my fists tightly so it doesn’t appear like I am scared of them.
But I think my shakiness was quite obvious to them all.
Speaking of them, that moment Alex’s mom embraced me was the most shocking event of this day.
How could she do that?
Act so calm and kind towards me?
She even bought me a freaking ring! A freaking very appealing ring at that!
I looked down at it. It was a white gold, diamond ring. There were five floating small diamonds on each side, then a larger marquise shaped diamond in the middle. It was glowing and alluring. She also got the right size.
Why was she being nice to me? She was supposed be to the cruelest of them all, considering she lost her soul mate at the hands of my father, or that’s what they thought at least.
I didn’t want to believe her sincerity. I wouldn’t. I would actually watch out from her the most, because I was positive she was waiting for the right moment to darken my life even more.
My watch gave out another alarm as my levels weren’t improving.
I turned it off and rummaged through my purse for a sugary snack.
Jelly beans, score.
As I was finishing the last one, a knock on my door made me jump.
I was still sitting on the floor of the closet.
I got up and walked to the middle of the room, my heart rate increasing again
Would Alex actually knock before coming into his own room?
“Come in” I said in a low voice.
It was Sara, with a plate of food in her hand and a glass of water.
“I made you a sandwich, if you need something else, you can come to the kitchen, I will be there” she said with a sweet smile as she put down the food and water on the table then closed the door behind her before I could thank her.
Sara seemed nice. She was probably the same age as Alex’s mother, with blue eyes and medium length ash blond hair.
Did someone tell her to make me food or was she acting on her own?
Was it Alex who told her? I was slightly positive he heard my stomach growl in the car.
But I don’t think he would be considerate to my hunger after what happened earlier.
She must have thought about it on her own.
I didn’t spare the food a second glance. I was hungry but I had no appetite. The jelly beans were about the only thing my stomach could handle in my current position.
I took a better look around the room for the first time.
When you walk through the door, you find a short corridor to the right with two steps at the end of it that will take you inside the room itself.
It wasn’t that big. It had a huge wooden master bed with two nightstands on each side. A dresser and chair were opposite the bed from its left side. While the walk in closet was to the other side of the bed.
On the same side as the dresser was the private bathroom.
Opposite the bed were two chairs with a small table in the middle, and behind them, two large window sills overlooking the front yard and outer staircase that I have no idea where it leads to.
The window sills were large and wide enough, I could sit there and stare at the front yard the whole day.
It was the only part I loved about this room, because I had one just like it in my old room where I always sit to listen to music, read, or watch something on my phone.
At least I still had my favorite place to keep me company.
Except my window seat had an actual thick comforting cushion, unlike this one. It was rock solid and looked painful to sit on without putting something underneath it.
My phone was ringing inside my purse, which I left on the floor of the closet.
I retrieved it and saw my mom calling.
She was probably worried sick about me.
My heart tugged at me painfully, as the thought of living so far away from her suddenly registered.
She was my only companion in that house, the one I always spent time with, and so was I to her.
“Hey mom”
“Jenny, are you okay? Please tell me the truth. How did everyone treat you over there?” my mom asked anxiously.
As much as I wanted to pour my heart out to her, I didn’t want her to worry about me.
So I lied, slightly “I’m fine. You were right, they’re not as bad as I thought they were. His mother actually hugged me and bought a diamond ring for me. It’s so big and beautiful, I’ll take a picture of it and send it to you later”
I heard a sigh of relief on the other end, which only added to my guilt for lying.
“What about Alex? Did.. Did he do something.. To you?” she asked hesitantly, like she is almost scared to ask me that question.
Was she asking about Alex doing something to me physically or sexually?
“No, he didn’t do anything” yet.
I carried on “He just wanted me to keep my head down and not cause any problems”
“Please do as he says Jenny. Don’t provoke him into hurting you like you did with your uncle last night, please listen to me just this once. I can’t handle if something happened to you, ok? Promise me”
“I promise. Are you okay? Did my uncle come back to you?” my blood was boiling at the thought of him with my mother.
He has the audacity to force my mother to marry him. That sick, sadistic, disgusting bastard, will never touch a hair on her, as long as I’m still breathing.
“No, he didn’t. Don’t worry about him ok? Just take care of yourself. Are your stitches holding? Does the wound hurt?”
Shit! I totally forgot about my ripped stitches.
Surprisingly, I forgot about it because it wasn’t hurting.
“I’m okay mom. Stop worrying about me I can take care of myself. I have to hang up though, I need to unpack my stuff. But I’ll talk to you later”
“I love you so much Jenny”
“I love you too mom”
I hung up the phone and headed straight for the bathroom.
I made sure I locked the door, then turned to the big wide mirror hanging over the sink and took off my dress.
Even without taking the bandage off, I knew Alex ripped some of my stitches when he shoved me roughly against his car, courtesy of the bloody bandage.
It was a miracle it hadn’t seeped through the dress, exposing my injury.
I removed it, and stepped closer to inspect the wound.
He ripped open about four stitches.
Damn him! What the hell am I supposed to do now?
I didn’t have another bandage to replace the bloody one either.
I backed away from the sink, and saw two cabinets underneath it.
I opened the first one, and found many towels folded neatly inside.
I opened the second one and almost sighed in relief, a first aid kit.
I took it out and opened it.
There were many bandages, much to my relief, as well as an antiseptic.
I hope Alex doesn’t check the kit very often so he doesn’t notice some missing bandages.
I apply some antiseptic and rub it gently against the open part of the wound, it burns and itches against my skin.
Then I apply a clean bandage over it and return everything back in its place.
I take a bunch of tissues, put the bloody bandage and wrapper of the new one, and try to ball the tissue to hide what’s inside as I toss it in the garbage next to the toilet and get out.
I head towards the closet to unfold my clothes and officially move into my new room, much to my dislike.
