Chapter 112
Chapter 112
Warrick pauses and looks up at the clear sky before continuing. ‘I relayed all I had discovered to my loyal pack members with urgency and conviction. They listened, their eyes blazing with righteous indignation. It was clear that the Mystic Council's reign of tyranny must be brought to an end. As a united pack, we pledged to fight, knowing that our combined strength and unwavering determination would be our greatest weapon.
A battle loomed on the horizon, a clash between the forces of oppression and the champions of justice. I knew the path ahead would be perilous, but with my pack at my side, I felt a surge of hope—a glimmer of light amidst the encroaching darkness. We would face the Mystic Council, unmask their deceit, and restore freedom to the wronged Felderians in the crystal mines.
Returning to the imposing Starlight Citadel, we braced ourselves, determined to confront the deceitful Mystic Council. I planned to eradicate them and obliterate the ancient tome that held their nefarious secrets. But as we entered, it became apparent that they were expecting us. The council members stood tall and composed, their eyes glinting with calculated confidence.
With a voice dripping with false righteousness, Gretchen announced that I was to surrender myself for the crimes of treason—accusing me of attacking her and her coven sisters and conspiring against the council. They skilfully spun a web of deception, convincing my pack that I had deceived and tricked them into fighting against them, and said my motive was to take over the council and rule Felderia. My pack wasn’t sure what to believe because they knew I never had an interest in wanting to rule Felderia, but they also seemed uncertain about what I had told them about the mystic council’s true intentions. Venlore's words dripped with authority and warned my pack that any act of defiance or support towards me would also result in charges of treason and imprisonment on them.’
Warrick heaves in a large breath, trying to mask the pain of what he’s about to tell me next. I squeeze Warrick’s hand, and he looks away from the ground to my eyes. ‘Moments later,’ he continues, ‘my pack backed away like cowards. Then they had the audacity to call me a traitor to their pack, the council and all of Felderia. One by one, they rejected me as their alpha.
Gretchen used her Beastiabindus spell to restrain me and approached, placing her hand on me. She cast a curse upon me. She said I would remain mateless and that my fated mate would never be born of this world. I felt the moment she placed the curse on me. My wolf tried to take over, but I couldn’t shift under the restraining spell. I pleaded and begged, willing to accept any other punishment, even a thousand lashes with a whip of silver, but Gretchen remained unyielding.
My pack knew how much it meant to me to find my fated mate and how sacred the bond is between wolves. My pack abandoned me and left me to join another pack, leaving me as a mateless rogue alpha. Gretchen and her sisters then magically forced me into the dungeon to a cell where the bars were made from silver, which burns like fire when you touch it. Unlike other wounds, any injuries sustained through silver won’t heal quickly for us wolves. It also leaves scars, when they eventually heal if we survive it. The council contemplated magically binding me to the crystal mines, realizing my knowledge of the precious gems would pose a threat. However, Gretchen persuaded them that imprisoning me within the witching woods would set an example—a warning and deter those who dared to challenge her or the council in future. They agreed. Xander, unaware of the truth, was informed of the distorted version of events. They painted me as a vicious attacker, claiming I sought to take Gretchen's life. I had hoped that Xander would have unravelled the truth over the years, but instead, songs of my treachery were composed and echoed throughout Felderia. Xander still remains oblivious, unwilling to see the deception woven around him.
I tried to tell Xander what happened when he arrived at the witching woods. At first, he wouldn’t listen, and with Gretchen, he completed the spell, magically binding me. An ethereal chain collar and chain appeared around my neck. I was bound within a twenty-metre radius to move around the large ancient tree. I begged them to kill him and put me out of my misery if this was to be my fate. I then tried one last time to plead with Xander to tell him the truth, but as he thought about parts of what I was saying, Gretchen stepped in, placing another curse to silence me. The curse forced me to shift into my wolf permanently, so I could not speak. She said only my mate's touch could break the curse. Xander was my only hope out of the situation. We had been friends for years, yet he told me I betrayed him by rebelling against Gretchen and the council. I was so angry that my pack had abandoned me, that I’d never meet or have the mate I once dreamt of. That I was now magically bound by my own friend. Pure rage took over, and I lashed out against Xander. My claws raked across his arm, etching three deep gashes that would forever mark him as a reminder of what he had done to me. It was a primal act of defiance, reflecting the seething fury that consumed my spirit. As they turned their backs on me, leaving me to wither in solitude, Xander glanced back, a flicker of uncertainty in his gaze.
For a fleeting moment, I dared to hope he had realized his mistake. But then, he pivoted, vanishing into the shadows. Over time I became untamed, wild. Being a rogue and stuck in my wolf form. I lost all humanity, not even remembering my past, but after years had passed, you showed up, and I smelt your scent. Memories came flooding back. I was so confused I thought they were a dream, but then you touched me, breaking the curse, and I knew at that moment it was all real, that you were real,’ he says, his hand raises and cups my left cheek.
My tears drip onto his hand. 'After all this time,' I whisper, my voice filled with sorrow, 'you were never the monster, to begin with. It was the mystic council and Gretchen who were the true monsters. Yet, you suffered for it.'
In the depths of Warrick's sorrow-filled eyes, a glimmer of gratitude and relief flickers in the midst of darkness. 'You're the first person,' he confesses, his voice raw with emotion, 'that has been willing to know the truth, to hear me out, and for that, I am so grateful, Rose. I have finally been able to speak my truth to someone, and I am so relieved that at least you now know it.’ Warrick closes his eyes momentarily and takes a big breath, ‘Although I still have a fight on my hands to stop the mystic council, I now have some peace knowing that at least you know the truth,' he says.
