Chapter 10
Chapter 10
Watching Tanya flitter about the functions room chattering with our guests, I sigh and slam back the whisky I was sipping on. Ten days has passed since Brynlee left. Ten days of yelling at Tanya every time she snapped at a pack member for doing their job. At one point I thought she was flirting with a Warrior that was just getting off patrol, but my father talked some sense into me. Or so he thinks.
What he doesn’t know is since that day, I have been keeping tabs on Tanya, recording her every move and even snuck a few hidden cameras into her room. I have yet to collect any evidence against her as I have been busy cleaning up her mess and a surprise visit from Onix Moon’s future Alpha, Viren Bestial, two days ago left me unable to see just what Tanya has been up to.
“Your future Luna seems like the social butterfly type.” Viren comments as he comes to stand beside me.
“She is, unfortunately for me.” I grumble out, not caring about portraying the lovesick fool I have had to be for the last few years. Now, my mindset is one where I fulfill my duties as the next Alpha. I will marry Tanya and only touch her when I need an heir.
“You don’t seem to like her too much?” He chuckles out, elbowing me playfully, I growl in warning, giving Viren a glare as he backs away in mock surrender.
“It’s complicated.” I decide to say. Viren hums in acknowledgement, his piercing green eyes staring at me as if trying to figure out what is going on. But I keep a mask of indifference on, preferring not to give this man any ammunition for his pack to try and take advantage of Pine Moon.
“So when will the wedding be?” He asks, reaching for a champagne flute as an Omega walks past.
“Two months from now.” I answer, accepting the refill of whiskey when another Omega, a she-wolf named Jennifer that Brynlee had been close to.
“Actually, its three months from now.” Tanya’s voice cuts in, the brown-haired she-wolf glaring daggers at Jennifer who curls in on herself and shakes with fear. I give Tanya a warning glare before telling Jennifer to continue her work. She bows respectfully to me before leaving, looking like a scared pup with their tail tucked between their legs.
“I told you that you need to treat my pack mates with respect.” I chastise Tanya, snarling at her as she tries to scoot closer to me.
“She was flirting with you!” Tanya whines, stomping her foot like an insufferable child.
“One, she has a Mate and a pup. Two, she was working.” I state, looking disdainfully at her. Tanya continues to pout, looking to Viren and asking for his opinion.
“Rune is right, Tanya. As the future Luna, you need to act with grace and dignity, not glare at the workers of the pack like a petulant child.” Viren shrugs, giving her a look of disgust. This seems to irritate Tanya further as she stomps away, leaving the function room. I sigh, already knowing that once Viren leaves tomorrow for the twelve-day trip back to Onix Moon, my father will be reprimanding me for how I treated Tanya in front of our guest.
“I see what you mean by “it’s complicated”. Even I would be ashamed of a Mate like that.” Viren sighs out, downing his champagne. A stabbing pain shoots through my heart at the word Mate and I think about Brynlee. She would have greeted Viren with a smile. Would have organized the farewell dinner and talked with the future Alpha about continuing the alliance after he ascends as Alpha. She wouldn’t have gossiped and chattered with friends like Tanya did.
“Who has a bad mate?” A voice calls out. I turn to find my god-brother, Tristan Ithica coming to join us.
“Tanya. You should have seen the way she behaved when chastised for glaring at an Omega who was doing her job.” Viren states to his future Beta, a frown on his face. I sigh, giving Tristan a look and my god-brother nods, understanding that I am at my wits end with his future Alpha.
“Well, I came to tell you that a few of those she-wolves over there were talking about you.” Tristan states to Viren, pointing over his shoulder. Sure enough, three girls I recognize as Warriors that hung around Tanya during training giggle and wave when Viren notices them.
“Well, if you’ll excuse me, I have three lovely she-wolves to meet.” Viren states with a smirk, placing his champagne flute on a nearby table and walking away.
“Sorry about using them.” Tristan sighs out, watching Viren with disgust.
“No need to apologize. They are pack whores anyways.” I shrug, motioning for my god-brother to follow me.
“So how is Delilah and your pup doing?” I ask hi, getting a grin from Tristan.
“Wonderful. Delilah makes an amazing mother and I am so proud of her.” He gushes, his love for his Mate evident in the way he speaks about Delilah. I smile, congratulating my friend and telling him to come visit my room before he leaves so I can give him a gift for the pup. The two of us decide to sneak away from the dinner, deciding to instead sit on the packhouse steps and catch up. It’s been a while since I saw my friend, the last time being at my mother’s funeral.
“So how did you get the new scars?” Tritan finally asks. I go to answer but I feel a presence force their way into my mind and brace myself for the yelling.
[Did you really embarrass Tanya in front of Viren?” My father calls through the link, making me groan.
“What’s wrong?” Tristan asks and I just shake my head, not wanting to explain the situation to him.
[She did it to herself acting like a child in front of a visiting Alpha.] I answer back. My father grumbles, but after I share my memory if what happened and telling him to confirm with Viren, he concedes that Tanya did in fact bring the embarrassment on herself. He tells me to not worry about it and that he will reprimand her then before the link closes. Deciding that my mood is now soured, I tell Tristan to enjoy the rest of the night before deciding I need a run. Leaping off the steps mid-step, I change into my wolf form without hesitation before running towards the forest. I need to get away before I do something I might regret, like beat Tanya black and blue.
