After seeing the photos, Vivian became uncomfortable. It was very obvious that someone was following her and tracking her every movement, she had no idea what that person's motive was but she wasn't going to let them achieve it.
Quickly, she took her purse and headed out of the room, not minding the fact that she had already paid in full. She called the boy who was supposed to meet her there and told him to forget about coming. She got into her car and drove home immediately.
Vivian's hands were shaky as she drove, she was perspiring heavily as she wondered who it was that took those photos of her walking into the hotel. Why would that person do such a thing and what did he need it for? All these questions kept going through her head, causing her to develop a headache.
She soon arrived at the mansion and hurriedly made her way inside, aiming to go and get some rest as it had been a very busy day for her. First, she had to prepare for the meeting that would soon be held, then the detective made her day even worse with his accusations. And to top it all off, some unknown person is trying to blackmail her. She couldn't shake the thought that rod2020 was involved in it.
“Vivian.” A familiar voice made her halt and turn around.
Her preoccupied mind did not let her notice that there was someone in the living room when she entered. She was surprised when she turned and saw who it was.
“Adrian?” She squinted, trying to make sure she was seeing clearly or if the headache was making her get hallucinations.
“What are you doing here?” It had been quite a long time since Adrian visited her on his own without her having to invite him or force him to come and see her so this came as a shock to her.
“Can I not visit you anymore? I mean, we're supposed to be getting married.” He took a few steps over to her, dipping his hands into his pockets. Her brows curved in suspicion. Why was he suddenly talking about marriage?
“Marriage? You trashed this topic whenever I tried to bring it up Adrian, so what changed?” She questioned.
“I never said I didn't want to get married anymore, I was just busy then.” He shrugged, hoping that he was at least sounding convincing.
“Okay?” She wanted to hear more.
“Sit down.” He offered, leading her to the couch. They both sat down and she took her jacket off before focusing her attention on him. Seeing him alone was a huge turn-on. She couldn't wait for him to say whatever he came to say so that they would go up to her room and have wild sex.
“I was thinking about our engagement and I think it should take place as soon as possible.” He simply stated and she stared at him off the top of her eyes, in a suspicious manner.
“As soon as possible? I'm sorry but why all of a sudden? What changed?” She was unsure and suspected him.
“Nothing changed Vivian, I told you already, I have just been busy but now I have the time.” He replied sharply and reached out to grab her hand.
“I just want to be completely yours Vivian, please don't say no, and let's make this work.” His tone was soft and sober, she could barely concentrate as she was already so turned on.
“Well.. if you're ready then so am I. But how soon are we talking?” She inquired.
“Next weekend?” He was hoping that she would be okay with it but the confused look on her face told him that she was suspicious.
“That's so soon.” She muttered.
“It's perfect.” He assured her and she shrugged, but her acceptance lacked confidence as she felt bombarded with everything that was happening.
“Fine then, we'll get engaged next weekend and the party is going to be talked about for weeks!” She was already gushing and Adrian only managed to force a smile.
“Come on, let's go upstairs and celebrate with good sex.” She sprung to her feet, taking his hand but he quickly objected.
“Have you forgotten about my erection problem?” He asked and her mood instantly switched to frustration as her eyebrows furrowed.
“Oh.. right.” She mumbled to herself and excused herself, going upstairs.

The following day was Saturday, and it was the day of the management meeting. Everyone was already seated in the boardroom, waiting for Scarlett to arrive. Maxwell was grinning at Vivian, as he had planned on accomplishing his task that morning.
Vivian, on the other hand, noticed the dirty looks Maxwell was throwing at her and wondered what could be going through his mind.
Soon, Scarlett entered and apologized for being five minutes late. She settled down and the meeting proper began.
“I'd like to hear about the company's progress this week, where are the files that contain all the signed deals and contracts gathered this week?” She demanded from Vivian's secretary who handed her the files quickly. Vivian had worked very hard to prepare those files and she was hoping that Scarlett would be proud.
“Have the funds been approved for the Biton project?” Scarlett questioned.
“Not yet ma'am, but that will definitely be looked into by the financial manager this coming week.” The secretary replied and Scarlett nodded as she continued to go through the files.
Vivian and Maxwell were still exchanging looks while Scarlett listened to other heads of departments present their account for the week. The tension between the both of them could cut through paper. Vivian couldn't shake the feeling that Maxwell wanted to do something nasty.
“Um… Scarlett.” Maxwell spoke up after everyone was done with their presentations.
“Yes?”
“There's something very important I'd like to share with you and everyone here and it has to do with the MD.” He turned to Vivian and her heart missed a beat instantly.
“B-before you do that!” Vivian sprung to her feet, interrupting because she had no other choice. Everyone shifted their attention to her.
“I'd like to announce to everyone that I'll be getting engaged next weekend and you are all invited.” She smiled awkwardly. She didn't want to break the news this way but Maxwell had left her with no other option.
“What?” Scarlett was visibly pale as her heart had sunk into her stomach at her mother's big reveal. Her chest squeezed in pain as she stared at her mother.
Without a word, she got up and walked out of the boardroom. She maintained her composure until she got into her car, and then tears started to pour down her cheeks, ruining the light make-up she had on.
Immediately, she drove off, driving back to her penthouse as fast as she could. Her mother and uncle, Richard, called her several times to find out why she left so suddenly but she didn't answer anybody's call.
As soon as she got home, she threw herself on the bed and started to bawl her eyes out. The tears did not stop coming no matter how much she tried to stop them. Her heart felt like a dagger had been driven into it and her head ached badly.
Her tears completely clouded her vision, but she preferred to be blind at that moment than to witness her mother get engaged to Adrian. Clutching her pillow tightly, she hiccupped in tears, wishing that it would all be some sort of joke.
Thirty minutes later, she picked up her phone only to see the numerous calls from her mother and uncle. She didn't bother to return their calls or texts, rather, she called Adrian but it went straight to voicemail.
“Ad– Adrian?” She sniffed. “Please call me back when you get this..” her voice came out shaky and she dropped the phone, placing her head on her knees which were tightly pressed against her chest.
Her phone started to ring again and when she looked at it, it was Adrian calling. She quickly answered the call, wiping her tears away.
“Hi, Scarlett.” Adrian's deep voice resonated in her head.
“Adrian, is it true? Are you really getting engaged to my mother or was she bluffing?” She questioned, hoping that his answer would be the latter.
“It's true Scarlett, it's your mother that I want to be with.”
“No..”
