Scarlett opened the door for Ethan to step and he flashed her a smile, trying to be charming. But she was far too busy trying to mask how horny she was. She adjusted her dress and led him into the living room.
“Are you okay?” Ethan questioned, noticing Scarlet's discomfort. She stared at him and then gave a nod, feeling a bit flustered that he could sense what she was trying to hide.
When she received his text, she couldn't deny that she had thoughts of letting him satisfy her sexual urges and she knew quite well that Ethan would jump at that opportunity but she couldn't let her guard down like that.
“Are you sure? You look a bit uncomfortable.” He pointed out, giving her a scrutinizing stare but she shrugged and insisted that she was fine. Ethan decided to let it slide and threw himself on the couch, making himself comfortable.
“Why are you even here?” Scarlett took a seat opposite him, crossing her legs on top of each other as she gave him a suspicious look. It was quite late and it didn't make sense to her that he'd be there at that time. Ethan raised his brows, taking in his upper lip.
“Well..” he drawled, gently tapping his finger on the armrest.
“I noticed how terrible your mood was at the library, and I decided to drop by and see if there was anything I could do to cheer you up.” He confessed.
Her eyes remained on him for some seconds, as if trying to see right through him and discover his true intentions. He stared back with equal energy, leaving Scarlett with no other option but to believe what he had just said. She smiled back at him but did not show any emotions as her smile was empty and soulless.
Maybe she was grateful that he had thought of checking on her, but she was definitely not buying that he had no other motives. He was the same man who made a bet with his friends that he would sleep with her within some months, there's no way he's suddenly a saint.
“Thank you.” She told him, releasing a sigh.
“How about I make us a midnight snack?” He offered, getting to his feet but Scarlett didn't like that idea. She also got to her feet, covering her skimpy night dress with one of her hands.
“Let's go out and get the snacks instead, I'd prefer that.” She insisted. Ethan had no other option but to do what she wanted so he waited for her to get dressed and then they left.
They didn't go in a car, they decided to walk to a nearby ice cream shop and get ice cream. As they walked, Ethan tried several times to get her involved in a conversation but she wasn't responsive as she kept staring at her phone and giving occasional nods at whatever he said.
They soon got to the ice cream shop and got different flavors. They sat on a bench outside the shop to eat the ice cream when Ethan started to speak again.
“I hope this means we're friends again.” He smiled.
“Don't get ahead of yourself,” Scarlett responded, she only wanted to get him out of her house to avoid more problems.
“Come on Scarlett, you can't deny that there's chemistry between us.” He moved closer to her, dropping his cup of ice cream beside him. He placed his palm on her hand but she quickly withdrew her hand and glared at him.
“Stop.”
Chemistry? She scoffed. He obviously doesn't know that she has found out about him sleeping with her mother and how her mother dumped his ass. That was the reason why he still had the nerve to say things like that to her.
“Don't fight it.” He whispered and made to kiss her but she pulled away. Ethan, determined to get what he wanted, grabbed her by the back of her head and tried to force his lips on hers, causing her ice cream to fall as she was struggling with him.
While she was busy trying to push him away, someone showed up from behind Ethan and pulled him up, tossing him aside. It turned out to be the same boy from Ethan's birthday party who cleaned her shirt after Nelly mistakenly splashed juice on it.
“Hey! Respect the lady.” He growled at Ethan.
“Who the fuck do you think you are!?”
“Fuck off asshole!”
Ethan stared at Scarlett but she looked away and that was enough to get him to walk away. Scarlett smiled and stood up to face the boy that saved her, yet again.
“Thanks.. again.”
“It's no big deal, don't worry about it.” He answered with a charming smile.
“I didn't get your name the last time we met.”
“Kelvin.”
“May I walk you home?” He offered and she nodded, joining him as they started walking in the direction of her penthouse.
“Did you turn in your assignments?” He queried.
“Definitely, I did.” She replied and they continued walking until they got to her house. Scarlett thanked him again and asked that they meet up to read soon before he left. She went back into her house to get some rest.
Ethan called her a few times that night but she refused to take any of his calls and went to sleep instead.

Maxwell was going through some folders in his bedroom while sipping the coffee that was on top of his drawer. He seemed confused as he flipped through the pages of the pile of folders on his bed. He was in an orange onesie, his legs intertwined together like a pretzel as he was working.
“I know I put those files here..” he muttered to himself as he continued to flip through pages. His session was abruptly interrupted when his phone vibrated next to him. He picked it up and saw that it was Vivian's secretary calling. He answered the call and placed it on his ear, supporting it with his shoulder while he continued to pick up more folders.
“Yes?”
“Sir, I called to remind you about the meeting on Saturday.”
“Of course, I know about the meeting on Saturday, who doesn't?” He sounded a bit hostile.
“Well sir, Miss Scarlett is going to be there. She has asked me to inform everyone to come with their reports for the week.” The secretary told him and his brows folded.
“Alright, thank you.” He dropped the phone and stopped everything he was doing, a sinister grin spreading across his lips.
He needed to carry on with his plan as soon as possible and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to do so. He had to get rid of Vivian and the only way he would achieve that was to implicate her in front of Scarlett.
Scarlett was the boss as it stands and whatever she says, stands. If he is able to play his cards right, he could easily get Vivian out of the way and start on the plan he's been brewing for a long time now.
He smiled again and went to take a few documents from his drawer. He placed them neatly in his suitcase and then continued his work.
The following morning, Maxwell got to the office and met Vivian walking in at the same time as him. They both exchanged glances but Vivian didn't bother to talk to him. Maxwell, on the other hand, smiled at her and waved at her.
“You came to work today?” He sneered.
“What sort of question is that? Is today not a work day?” Vivian clapped back, her eyes wide with rage.
“Oh, Vivian! Your shenanigans will bring ruin very soon.” He grinned, walking away.
