Chapter 63
Chapter 63
"Ma'am, I have some news regarding the Lerman deal," Sheila said as she stepped into Ciara's office, banging the door softly behind her.
Ciara slowly looked up from her desk, her expression was unreadable. "Go ahead, I'm listening." She answered in a voice just as plain, her facial expression.
Sheila took a deep breath. "Mr. Lerman did give a response to our proposal when I met with him earlier today, but I'm afraid it's not the response we were hoping for." Sheila said, carefully picking herwords.
A flicker of anger flashed in Ciara's eyes as she leaned back in her chair and crossed her arms, her expression cold and steely. "What did he say?" she asked, her voice tight.
Sheila took a moment to gather her thoughts before uttering a response. "He's rejecting our offer, he said that he's not willing to give up majority control of his company; he was furious when he told me these. He added that he's willing to accept a minority investment, but not what we proposed -he is sticking with the previous offer or no deal!"
Ciara's jaw clenched tightly, as she turned away from Sheila, staring out the window. Her thoughts were racing. If Ryan rejected her proposal, she would have to come up with another plan, else she can't think of another plan to get back at him. As Ciara sat in silence, lost in thought, Sheila spoke again.
"I know this isn't what we wanted to hear, but there may be another way forward. Perhaps we could find a way to negotiate with Mr. Lerman, to come up with a compromise that would be acceptable to both parties. We could still make this work, Ma'am because I believe It's not the end of the road."
Ciara turned back to face Sheila, her eyes blazing with determination. "There is no compromise, Sheila." Her voice has never been raised at Sheila, this shocked her that her boss was doing this.
"There is no compromise," Ciara repeated, her voice hard and unyielding. "This is a matter of principle. Either Mr. Lerman agrees to ourterms, or we walk away. I will not accept anything less."
Sheila hesitated, not sure how to respond. On the one hand, she understood Ciara's frustration and anger. On the other hand, she knew that walking away from the deal would be a huge setback for them. Finally, she spoke up.
"I understand your frustration, but I have to ask -is it worth throwing away all the work we've done on this deal, just because Mr. Lerman won't agree to our terms? We've put so much time and effort into this, and it would be a shame to see it all go to waste. Can we at least try to find a middle ground?"
Ciara shook her head, her expression set. "No, this is not a matter of compromise but, rather, a matter of principle. I will not be satisfied with anything less than what we originally proposed, you of all people know how much this means to me!"
Sheila let out a long sigh, knowing that there was no point in arguing further. "Very well, Ma'am. I respect your decision. I will inform Mr. Lerman's team of your position, and we will go from there. Is there anything else I can do for you?"
Ciara rose from her chair, her expression stony. "No, thatwill be all. Thank you for your efforts, but this matter is now out of your hands." With that, Ciara swept out of the room, leaving Sheila alone with her thoughts.
As the door closed behind Ciara, Sheila sank into a chair and put her head in her hands. She had never seen Ciara so angry, so determined, and she couldn't help but feel a little bit worried. What would happen next? Would they really walk away from this deal, or would Ciara find a way to make it work? And what would the consequences be, for both of them?
Sheila knew that there was no point in speculating -she would just have to wait and see what happened next. The boss she knew in the past two years wasn't a type to let things be without seeing it to it end, she's no person to go down without a hard trial.
She might be angry beyond measure at the moment, but Sheila was positive she will come around after sometime, maybe then she would have gathered her thoughts well enough.
Meanwhile, Sheila went back to her office and decided to focus on the tasks at hand. She still had plenty of work to do, regardless of what happened with the Lerman deal. There were other clients to attend to, other projects to work on. She gathered her files and got to work, determined to put the situation with Ciara out of her mind for the moment.
But as she worked, she couldn't help but wonder what would happen next. Would Ciara really be willing to risk everything, just to make a point? Or would she find a way to reach a compromise, to make the deal work?
As the hours passed, Sheila found herself getting more and more anxious. She kept glancing at the clock, waiting for a call or an email from Ciara, but nothing came. It was as if Ciara had disappeared, and Sheila couldn't help but worry. Was everything really going to fall apart? Or was Ciara simply taking some time to think things through, before making a decision?
Finally, as the day was drawing to a close, the phone on Sheila's desk rang. She jumped, startled, and answered it quickly. "Hello?"
"Hello, Sheila. This is Ciara," came the familiar voice on the other end of the line. "I'm sorry for not being in touch earlier, but I needed some time to think things over. I hope you understand."
Sheila felt a wave of relief washed over her. "Of course, I understand, ma'am. It's a big decision, and I'm glad you took the time to consider your options. What did you decide?" Her professional trained voice came out as calmed and polite as ever.
"After much thought, I've decided that we will move forward with the deal, but on our terms. I'm not willing to compromise on my principles, but I'm willing to negotiate the details. I think we can find a way to make this work for everyone involved. What do you think?" Sheila heard Ciara's soft voice.
Sheila was impressed by Ciara's willingness to find a solution that would satisfy everyone, this made a smile spread wide across her lips. "I think that's a great idea, I'm glad you were able to come to that decision. So, how do you want to proceed?" She asked, still with the same calm and resolving tone she's been using.
"First, I want you to meet with Mr. Lerman again and still in person. I think it's important for a touch of face-to-face discussion, to make sure we're all on the same page. Can you set that up and do that once again for me?" Ciara asked, her voice firm but not unkind.
Sheila's smile was assuring as she flashed it. "Sure, ma'am." She uttered. "I'll be glad to do anything you ask of me..."
