Chapter 76
Chapter 76
Tension enveloped the grand abode of Harriet, casting a heavy atmosphere in the air.
The once elegant and tranquil atmosphere now crackled with the intense animosity between Violet and Alexander, as if even the walls themselves recoiled from the tangible hostility saturating the space.
Violet stood resolute in the grand foyer, her eyes ablaze with determination, as Alexander met her gaze with a mixture of anger and frustration.
"Stay away from my wife, Violet. She's just suffered the loss of her child and doesn't need to be entangled in anything related to Red Saint."
"Camilla is already vulnerable, and introducing her to the truth about Red Saint will only push her further into despair," his tone laden with caution.
Violet's eyes narrowed, her hands clenched into fists at her sides.
"Do you really think I'm the one leading her into despair? No, Alexander. It's your web of deceit that's smothering her, ensnaring her in a false reality."
Violet turned her attention to Harriet, whose exhaustion was evident on her face from the strain of their arguments.
"I told all of you that day that she was going to be Red Saint's next victim but you dismissed me as always and now that it has happened, I fail to see why keeping the truth about that night from her is in her best interest."
"And you think you know what's best for her?" Alexander interjected, his voice laced with frustration and Violet turned towards him, nodding resolutely.
"Yes, as someone who has experienced a similar situation, I believe she deserves to know the truth," she retorted, her voice brimming with conviction.
Alexander's anger surged, his voice growing higher, "It's not your place to tell her, okay?!"
Violet stood her ground, her gaze unwavering.
"If it's not my place, then whose place is it? Yours? Grandma's? How much longer do you expect Camilla to live entangled in this web of deception?"
Alexander's jaw clenched, his hands trembling with suppressed fury. "I'm trying to protect her, Violet."
A bitter laugh escaped Violet's lips, devoid of any amusement.
"Protect her? Is that what you call it? Keeping her in the dark, feeding her lies while a dangerous man lurks in the shadows? That's not protection, Alexander. That's betrayal."
The accusation struck a nerve, and Alexander's eyes flickered with a mixture of anger and guilt.
Despite the rising tension, Violet's voice remained calm.
"I have experienced firsthand the pain inflicted by Red Saint, Alexander. I was kidnapped and subjected to repeated druggings until I lost my own child."
"No one in this family understands what Camilla is going through better than I do, and that's precisely why I cannot stand idly by while she continues to suffer."
"She deserves the truth, the opportunity to heal, to find closure, and to make decisions about her life and well-being based on reality, not lies."
A flicker of uncertainty briefly crossed Alexander's face, his anger momentarily subsiding.
However, it quickly returned, refusing to accept Violet's perspective.
He spoke with a low, but resolute voice, "You act like you care about her, but it seems like you're just trying to stir up trouble."
Violet's eyes widened at Alexander's accusation, hurt flashing across her features.
She took a step back as if physically recoiling from the weight of his words.
"Alexander is right, Violet," Harriet finally spoke, her weariness evident as she nodded in agreement.
"I won't deny that keeping secrets from her is not ideal, but we need to approach this situation delicately."
"Camilla is fragile right now, and the truth about Red Saint may not only shatter her but also push her away from Alexander."
Violet's eyes narrowed, a flicker of disappointment crossing her face as she absorbed her grandmother's words.
Slowly, she turned to face Alexander, her head nodding with a newfound understanding. "So that's it..."
"You care more about the possibility of her hating you when she finds out the truth about Red Saint."
"Something you purposefully kept from her before you two got married, instead of putting her mental well-being first," she said, her disappointment evident in her tone.
Alexander's face hardened, a conflicted expression crossing his features at Violet's words.
"I just hope she realizes the truth soon enough to prevent any irreversible damage," Violet added, her voice filled with genuine concern, as she purposefully brushed her shoulder against Alexander's while walking past him.
Alexander stood there, watching her departing figure, a tumultuous mix of emotions coursing through him.
Deep down, he knew that Violet's words held truth, that keeping Camilla in the dark would only lead to more suffering and confusion.
However, the fear of losing her, the fear of disrupting the fragile peace they had managed to build, gripped him tightly.

Weeks had passed since Camilla's discharge from the hospital, and despite her parents' attempts to convince her to stay with them until she fully recovered, she had chosen to return home with Alexander.
Standing in front of the mirror, her gaze fixated on the scar below her stomach, her mind drifting back to the day when Violet had visited her and shared unsettling truths.
A soft knock on the door startled her, breaking her reverie.
She quickly smoothed down her clothing and took a few seconds to collect herself before responding, "Come in."
The door creaked open, and a young lady entered the room, carrying a tray of food in her hands.
She smiled warmly at Camilla as she placed the tray on a nearby table.
"Your lunch, ma'am... I thought you might prefer to have it up here, just like yesterday," she said gently.
Grateful for the consideration, Camilla nodded.
"Thank you, Evelyn," she replied, her voice soft but as she turned to leave, Camilla called out to her, halting her steps.
"Evelyn..."
Turning back, her eyes filled with curiosity and concern, "Yes ma'am?"
Camilla hesitated for a moment, her voice tinged with uncertainty.
She looked at Evelyn, searching for a glimmer of trust.
"The night of my accident... did you...?" Her voice trailed off, barely above a whisper.
Evelyn's expression shifted, her brows furrowing with concern.
"Did I what, ma'am?" she asked, her voice gentle and encouraging her to continue.
Camilla hesitated, uncertain if she should continue, but the weight of uncertainty pushed her to seek the truth.
Taking a deep breath, her hands trembling slightly, she mustered the courage to ask, "Did you see anything... maybe someone from my birthday party sneaking back in or anything that could help me understand what really happened that night?" Her voice carried a mix of hope and anxiety.
Evelyn's eyes widened slightly, and she hesitated for a moment before responding.
"I... I didn't see anything, ma'am. After the party that night, I immediately retired to my bed. It wasn't until I heard the ambulance siren that I got up."
Camilla's heart sank at Evelyn's answer.
The glimmer of hope she had clung to began to fade, replaced by a sense of disappointment.
She had hoped that Evelyn might have witnessed something that could shed light on the events of that fateful night but just like other staffs that she had previously questioned none had the answers she wanted.
Her voice carried a hint of disappointment as she uttered, "I see."
Her gaze drifted downward, fixated on her hands.
The elusive truth slipped further away, leaving her feeling adrift in a sea of confusion and frustration.
Evelyn approached, her eyes filled with genuine concern.
"I apologize, ma'am. I wish I had more information to offer," she said in a gentle tone, brimming with empathy.
"Is there anything else I can do to assist you?"
A heavy sigh escaped Camilla's lips, her shoulders slumping in resignation.
"I don't know, Evelyn," she confessed, her voice laced with frustration.
"It feels like crucial pieces of that night are missing. Everything is cloaked in darkness, and I'm struggling to make sense of it all."
Evelyn offered a gentle smile, her empathy shining through her eyes.
"I can only imagine the difficulties you're facing, ma'am," she sincerely expressed.
"Sometimes, the answers we seek reveal themselves in the most unexpected ways. It's worth considering other avenues that may provide some insights."
Camilla's gaze met Evelyn's, and a flicker of realization sparked within her.
The presence of CCTV cameras installed throughout the house suddenly came to mind and a glimmer of hope revived in her eyes.
"You're absolutely right, Evelyn," Camilla declared, her voice infused with newfound determination.
"There might be other paths I can explore." She said a small hopeful smile formed on her lips, embodying her growing optimism.
