Chapter 165
Chapter 165
Gordon's gaze fell on Alessia, fluctuating between brightness and darkness, taking slow and difficult steps forward.
Finally, he stood firm, moved his lips slightly, and asked in a confirming yet difficult tone, "Are you really Dr. Athena?"
Perhaps nothing could be more difficult to accept than the daughter he had always regarded as a disgrace turning out to be the renowned doctor he had been searching for.
And Christian just called Dominic 'Daddy'.
Alessia's child wouldn't be born with some random man.
He heard that Dominic had been married before and divorced later.
Christian just mentioned reconciliation, so Alessia must be Dominic's ex-wife. Regardless of whether Dominic liked Alessia before, being able to marry her wasn't simple in itself.
This sudden appearance of his daughter was underestimated by him.
Gordon's gaze was complex, and his inner journey was even more complicated.
However, Alessia had gone from initially not wanting to have anything to do with Gordon to genuinely disliking him through their brief interactions.
With everyone's eyes on her, waiting for her response, she remained expressionless and coldly denied, "I am not Dr. Athena."
Tiffany's clenched hands relaxed, and she breathed a sigh of relief inwardly.
Dominic's interest grew even more.
Despite Alessia's denial, Gordon's eyes were filled with disbelief, yet he was even more convinced in his heart.
"It's impossible. You are Dr. Athena, otherwise, how could you have performed that surgery so smoothly that day, with even the hospital director treating you with such respect?"
"Believe what you want." Alessia didn't have the mood to argue with Gordon. She couldn't be forced to admit something she wasn't.
Seeing Alessia unwilling to admit it, Christian became anxious again. Although Grandpa Gordon was now detestable, Grandma Evelyn couldn't be ignored, "Mommy..."
However, before he could finish, a sharp look from Alessia swept over him.
"Christian, what do you want to say? Don't forget how you came here today, playing truant with your sister. Do you know how worried your teacher and Mommy were?"
Hearing Alessia's serious tone, Christian felt a pang in his buttocks.
He cleverly understood that he had completely crossed Mommy's bottom line, and it was not appropriate to speak now.
He wisely tightened his lips.
Seeing Christian obediently silent, Alessia put him down and, ignoring everyone's gaze, walked towards the ward with Christian.
She was going to take Eleanor away.
Dominic took a long stride, naturally following.
Gordon remained in place, watching the family of three heading to the ward, his brows furrowing tighter.
"Uncle Gordon?" Tiffany noticed Gordon's expression and whispered beside him.
Gordon glanced at Tiffany, ignored her, and quickly took out his phone.
Tiffany's heart skipped a beat, and she tightly pursed her lips.
The relief she felt when Alessia denied being Dr. Athena was now suspended again.
Gordon no longer trusted her!
As she anxiously pondered, Gordon's call was answered.
The call was made to the hospital director. He directly identified himself and asked straightforwardly, "It's me, Gordon Laroux. Tell me honestly, is Alessia Dr. Athena?"
He had already drawn his conclusion, but he still needed reassurance.
On the other end of the phone, the director's voice sounded awkward. He chuckled and didn't directly admit it, "Mr. Laroux, I didn't intend to hide it from you. It's just that I promised Miss La Rosa beforehand, and I've said before that Mrs. Laroux's illness could be treated by Miss La Rosa."
Hearing the director's words, Gordon understood everything.
He didn't need to say more and hung up the phone.
Knowing that Alessia was Dr. Athena was better than never finding Dr. Athena and being directionless.
Although his relationship with Alessia was extremely strained now, people had needs when they were alive.
He could fulfill Alessia's needs.
As long as he could save Evelyn, he could do anything.
Gordon contemplated, and in a short time, he had come up with a plan.
He took steps towards the ward.
"Uncle Gordon?" Tiffany noticed that Gordon was completely ignoring her and hurriedly spoke up.
She had just heard Gordon's conversation with the director and didn't expect Alessia to endure it like this.
Knowing that she was looking for Dr. Athena, Alessia must have been waiting for this day, wanting to see her joke.
So she couldn't just let it go like this; she had to do something.
Gordon frowned and turned back, his tone completely devoid of the initial cordiality towards Tiffany.
"What else do you have to say?"
"Uncle, it's not like that. About Dr. Athena, I didn't lie to you. It's all a misunderstanding, it's just that Alessia is too cunning." Tiffany's gaze flickered. She glanced towards the direction of the ward, confirming that Alessia wouldn't come out before speaking the lie.
She wanted to use the same trick again and shift all the blame onto Alessia.
Gordon might not like Alessia, but that didn't mean he was foolish.
Knowing that Alessia was Dr. Athena, it was easy to understand why Christian suddenly pushed Tiffany.
It was Tiffany who slandered Alessia, Christian acted to defend his mommy. Yet, Tiffany could still spin it as instigated by Alessia.
It showed that Tiffany wasn't as harmless as she usually appeared.
"Miss Olsen, I don't care about any misunderstandings between you and Alessia. I don't want to understand. Right now, I just want to save my wife's life. Please don't waste my time."
Miss Olsen? The address sounded unfamiliar.
Don't waste time? Was Gordon accusing her?
Indeed, Gordon's impression of her had deteriorated. Had all her efforts been in vain?
Tiffany's face drained of color in an instant.
Feeling anxious, Gordon couldn't be bothered to look at Tiffany again and continued towards the ward.
The door to the ward was open, and as Gordon approached, he noticed that Evelyn was already awake.
She was sitting up in bed, her gaze serene and gentle, watching the little girl standing by the bedside, earnestly and delicately feeding her watermelon with a spoon.
The little girl had fair skin, beautiful features like a doll, the only flaw being her slight thinness, resembling Alessia.
Meanwhile, Alessia stood at the door of the ward with Christian, with Dominic standing beside her.
Seeing Gordon enter, Alessia's expression, initially devoid of emotion, turned cold. She urged Eleanor, "Elle, it's time to leave, let's go."
As Alessia spoke, Evelyn's eyes visibly dimmed.
Feeling Evelyn's change in mood, Eleanor quickly pleaded with Alessia, "Mommy, can I finish feeding Grandma Evelyn the watermelon before leaving? I like Grandma Evelyn."
Alessia furrowed her brows, noticing not only Eleanor looking at her but even Evelyn was almost pleadingly looking at her.
Evelyn's gaze was free of any ulterior motives, even though she was older, her face was still beautiful and elegant.
Alessia's heart sank. There was no way she could refuse an elder who was unwell; her grudge with Gordon had nothing to do with Evelyn.
Alessia coughed lightly and softened her tone, "Hurry up then."
This was as good as agreeing, showing that Mommy's heart was the softest.
Eleanor's eyes curved as she obediently responded, "Mommy, I understand. Grandma, have another bite. This watermelon looks so red, it must be very sweet!"
"Okay." Evelyn smiled, her eyes full of smiles, opening her mouth in cooperation.
Seeing this scene, Gordon's expression was complicated. He couldn't help but think, if Evelyn knew that Alessia was the child of him and another woman, would she still like these two children so much?
Perhaps she would reject them in her heart.
After all, for so many years, Evelyn had never been able to let go of the daughter they lost. How could she be happy with the children born to him and another woman?
However, he couldn't do anything about it, considering his recent decision.
After sighing, Gordon looked towards Alessia and lowered his voice, "I have something to tell you."
"But I have nothing to say to you. Mr. Laroux. If you don't like it, I will immediately take the children away." Alessia didn't look away, her eyes fixed on Christian, Eleanor, and Evelyn, refusing bluntly.
Gordon was rendered speechless by the retort. He wanted to explain that he didn't want them to leave.
But thinking that this was a hospital ward, speaking a little louder might attract Evelyn's attention, so he swallowed back his words.
If Evelyn knew that he had blocked Christian's number, she would surely ignore him again.
Helpless, Gordon could only wait by the side. He planned to wait for Alessia and the others to leave the ward, then intercept Alessia for a private conversation.
