Chapter 144
Chapter 144
"You?" The doctor looked at Alessia skeptically.
Alessia nodded confidently. "Yes, it's me. Give me two minutes, I need to make a phone call."
Without paying attention to any other gazes, she walked to the side and made a call to Riley.
Alessia explained directly to Riley, "Brother, you're familiar with the director of X Hospital. I want to perform surgery on Jessie at X Hospital."
Riley only then learned that Jessie had been in an accident. Although he was worried about what had happened, he wasted no time and acted swiftly.
"I got it. Just wait, I'll make the call right away."
"Okay." Alessia hung up the phone and looked at the doctor. "Wait a moment longer."
In fact, the doctor had wanted to return to the surgery long ago. She had stayed back earlier only because of Alessia's confident aura. Now, facing her determined tone, she was completely baffled.
Once she regained her senses, her expression changed. She looked at Alessia without suspicion.
"Are you, as a family member, feeling distressed? The hospital isn't yours. Do you think you can just perform surgery because you want to? I've been in the medical field for so many years, and I've never seen a family member like you. The patient is still in the operating room, and you're causing chaos here."
With that, he looked to Dominic and the others. "Can you manage her? Don't waste time; life is precious. This isn't a joke."
Gordon frowned; he wouldn't bother with such trivial matters.
Dominic pursed his lips and took a few steps forward, approaching Alessia. Then, he reached out and wrapped his arm around her shoulder.
"Just give her two minutes. I trust her."
This was madness.
The doctor, seeing Dominic standing beside Alessia as her support, finally breathed a sigh of relief without saying anything, and went back into the operating room.
These were the patient's family members. If they didn't take the patient seriously, what could he, as a doctor, do? Fortunately, it was just two minutes; she would go in and see if she could discuss with the attending physician, then give her two minutes.
The door to the operating room was closed again.
Suddenly, Harrison rushed to Alessia's side and snatched the surgery consent form from her hands.
He disagreed and said, "Miss La Rosa, although you and Jessie are good friends, you can't play with her life like this. Even though I'm not a good father, I'll sign this surgery consent form. Even if Jessie becomes a vegetable in the future, I'll take care of her."
Saying that, he grabbed the pen and wrote his name. Dominic wanted to stop him, but Alessia grabbed his arm.
"It's okay, let him sign. He's finally taking on the responsibility of being a father. If Jessie finds out in the future, she'll be happy."
Besides, Riley should have already called the director, and she believed that with the director's endorsement, there shouldn't be any problem with her performing the surgery herself.
Dominic glanced at Alessia's hand holding onto his arm intimately and smirked. He knew Alessia was being hypocritical; she only took the opportunity to get close to him.
Yet she complained about him being too touchy.
Dominic indulged in his narcissistic thoughts, while Alessia remained completely unaware.
The accident had happened so suddenly that even Gordon, who was supposed to leave, didn't leave.
He seemed intrigued and wanted to see what would happen next.
Alessia was so confident, claiming she would perform surgery herself.
Even though she had some medical knowledge, she wasn't a doctor, and it didn't make sense for her to come to another hospital to perform surgery on a patient.
He would just watch how Alessia would be embarrassed.
Two minutes passed.
The elevator doors on this floor opened, and two middle-aged men in white coats came out one after the other.
As soon as they came out, they hurriedly walked towards Alessia.
The middle-aged man who came to the front was so excited that his eyes were almost glued to Alessia's face.
"Hello, I am the director of this hospital. You must be Miss La Rosa. It's a pleasure to see you here. Dr. Sinclair has already informed me about your situation, and there is absolutely no problem on our end. However, I have a small request, if you don't mind," the director said cautiously.
"What request?" Alessia asked.
"It's about whether we can observe the surgery," the director said, touching his nose nervously.
"Sure," Alessia agreed without any hesitation.
Both the director and the attending physician breathed a sigh of relief and exchanged a glance. The smiles on their faces were almost uncontrollable.
But why were they so happy just to observe a surgery?
Harrison, who had just signed the surgery consent form, was dumbfounded when he saw this scene.
With just one phone call, the hospital director personally came to meet Alessia, and now they were eagerly requesting to observe Alessia's surgery. Who was this little girl, and how skilled could her medical expertise be?
What was Alessia's background exactly?
Feeling the same shock as Harrison was Gordon. He was completely stunned by the unexpected turn of events. This was completely beyond his expectations.
Only Dominic showed no surprise at all. His eyes filled with pride as he looked at Alessia. It was as if the person being revered by the hospital director and attending physician was himself.
Alessia was invited into the operating room by the hospital director and the attending physician. Gordon, thinking about Evelyn's condition, hesitated for a moment but couldn't resist walking to Dominic's side to inquire.
"Dominic, is Alessia very skilled in medicine? Where did she work before?"
Dominic's gaze shifted from the operating room to Gordon. His expression, full of pride just a moment ago, suddenly changed.
With an extremely low tone, he vented his anger on behalf of Alessia through his words. "If I remember correctly, just now, you vehemently denied recognizing Alessia as your daughter. Why? Because you see that your daughter's medical skills are useful now, are you planning to acknowledge her? I didn't expect the dignified Mr. Gordon Laroux to have such a manipulative side."
Dominic didn't mince words, and Gordon was almost knocked backward by his sharp tongue.
In the end, he left with a cold snort, "Who cares."
"It's best if you don't care," Dominic retorted coldly, refusing to give him any face.
Gordon had already taken a few steps toward the elevator but hesitated and came back. He faced Dominic's gaze, which was neither friendly nor hostile, and forced himself to speak. "I'm just watching to see how Alessia will fail. She thinks she's Dr. Athena, but she's just bluffing."
"Mr. Gordon, you really know how to talk, but you could also choose not to speak. If it were Evelyn lying in the operating room right now, could you still say such heartless words?" Gordon's words made Harrison glare fiercely at him before Dominic could respond.
He completely forgot that just a few minutes ago, he had been nodding and bowing to Gordon.
Gordon pursed his lips, realizing he had misspoken, but he couldn't bring himself to apologize.
And Harrison, too. He was so quick to protect his daughter now, but before, he had been indifferent. His sudden change of heart was as surprising as his words.
Gordon felt that this place was not suitable for him, but he couldn't move his feet.
Time passed, and Harrison was called away to get his blood tested.
Two hours later, the door to the operating room finally opened.
Everyone standing outside the operating room straightened up to look inside.
The first person to come out was the female doctor who had brought the consent form earlier.
Harrison, pressing the cotton swab on his wrist to stop the bleeding, rushed forward anxiously. "Doctor, how is my daughter?" Harrison was in a panic, grabbing the doctor's wrist.
The doctor removed her mask, her expression subtle.
Harrison, in his urgency, grabbed the doctor's wrist. "Doctor, how is my daughter? Is she...?"
