Chapter 12
Chapter 12
The sun was setting, casting a figure into the old alley of the X fishing area.
At three o'clock in the afternoon, Alessia woke up from her nap and finally received an email.
The email said she needed to find Dalton's house, where the person she was looking for was located.
After inquiring around, Alessia found her way there.
Not far away, a small white house appeared in sight, where a middle-aged couple could be seen drying fish in the yard.
Alessia stepped into the courtyard.
The couple stopped their activities when they saw a stranger at their door.
"Excuse me, are you Mr. And Mrs. Dalton?" Alessia pursed her lips and asked.
As soon as she spoke, the expressions on the couple's faces changed.
After a moment of silence, it was the woman who spoke first. She tidied her stray hair nervously and asked, "Will you... be good to Daniel?"
From their body language, it was clear they had been expecting her visit.
At this moment, the 'Daniel' mentioned should be the child.
Alessia breathed a sigh of relief and replied, "Of course, any child of mine will be more precious than life itself!"
"Words are easier said than done. If it were true, we wouldn't have picked up Daniel back then!"
The man suddenly dropped the fish he was holding, his expression struggling, but eventually seemed to compromise. He drooped his head and said, "It's high tide today, Daniel has gone to the beach, follow me!"
With that, he turned and left the yard.
Alessia followed and soon arrived at the beach.
The tide had just receded, and there were many people carrying buckets, picking up various seafood washed up by the waves.
"Daniel!"
Mr. Dalton glanced at Alessia behind him, cupped his hands to his mouth like a horn, and shouted in the direction of the child washing his feet by the sea.
One of the children turned back upon hearing the shout.
With the sea breeze, Alessia clearly saw his face.
His skin was equally dark, and his figure was even thinner than Eleanor's, as if he could be blown away by a gust of wind.
Her heart clenched.
"Dad!" The child saw Mr. Dalton and waved in response, picking up his bucket and preparing to walk back.
Just then, a wave came crashing, and the child's slender figure was suddenly engulfed by the sea, completely submerged in the blue ocean.
"Daniel!" Mr. Dalton, seeing this, was so anxious that veins popped out on his forehead, and he dashed towards the sea.
Alessia felt a sense of urgency and followed closely behind.
Fortunately, the man acted quickly, and the child was soon pulled out of the water.
Unfortunately, after tumbling in the sea and swallowing a lot of seawater, the child was brought up but fainted.
The little person's belly was bloated, and his complexion was pale and ugly.
Alessia frowned, not daring to delay. She knelt on one leg and placed Daniel prone on the bent leg, then vigorously patted his back several times in succession.
Finally, Daniel spat out the seawater, and then his eyes slowly opened.
Alessia, ignoring the sweat on her forehead, carefully observed Daniel, who was soaking wet.
He looked listless, his lips purple, indicating the aftermath of drowning, but apart from that, there were no other symptoms.
He was saved.
Alessia breathed a sigh of relief.
This child didn't look like Chris or Eleanor, but what if they were fraternal twins?
She didn't want to experience the feeling of losing and regaining again.
"Dad!" Weakly, Daniel reached out his hand towards Mr. Dalton, who was also soaked.
Alessia looked over the father and son.
The natural dependence on each other in their eyes made her bite her lips, but in the end, she handed the child over.
As she let go, Alessia caught sight of a black birthmark on Daniel's shoulder.
It must have been formed by compression during birth.
Daniel wasn't her baby.
Alessia's heart felt like it had been pulled by an invisible hand.
In an instant, she lost strength, and a hint of self-mockery appeared at the corner of her mouth.
She knew things wouldn't be that simple.
"Miss?" Mr. Dalton seemed to notice her anomaly and called out.
"He's not my child..." Alessia murmured.
Mr. Dalton was stunned, his face showing a complex mix of emotions, seeming both happy and disappointed.
Alessia didn't pay any more attention. She wrapped her arms around herself and walked away.
The woman's figure was slender, as if wrapped in endless loneliness, yet hiding many secrets.
But in the distance, everything that had just happened was observed by someone.
Dominic, with his handsome features, clad in a well-tailored black suit that hugged his model-like physique, the setting sun casting a fierce aura over his shoulders, so imposing that people dared not look directly at him.
Behind him followed a group of subordinates inspecting the project, all of whom were suppressed to the point of not daring to breathe.
As a manager, he maintained a strong aura, ensuring everything was in order.
"Mr. Carter, we will increase patrols at the beach in the future to fundamentally prevent drowning accidents."
"Implement it as soon as possible. Dismissed!" Dominic frowned, striding towards Alessia.
Alessia wandered aimlessly along the seashore.
It wasn't until she felt tired that she sat down on the nearby rocks.
Every scene of the past five years searching for her baby flashed through her mind.
Reward notices posted online, strangers calling and sending messages, she always responded to every clue.
Once, someone asked her to send a thousand CAD first before telling her the clue.
She knew it was a scam, but she still sent the money, a voice in her heart telling her, "What if it's true?"
Gradually, even the scam messages disappeared.
The Dalton family in the X fishing area of Ontario has been the only clue she had since the beginning of this year.
She had been deceived, but as long as Mr. Dalton was still around, the clues hadn't been cut off.
It seemed that this time, she could take the initiative.
Alessia breathed a sigh of relief, feeling her mood easing, ready to go back.
As she stood up, her wrist was tightly grabbed from behind.
Alessia hadn't turned around yet, but she heard Dominic's cold voice.
"Do you want to die? Go somewhere else!"
Die?
Alessia frowned, looking at the cold-faced Dominic.
How could he be here?!
This beach was already off the beaten path, and to meet again, it couldn't be described as coincidental anymore.
Or was Dominic tracking her all along?
Why would Dominic track her?
Alessia remembered the last time he appeared in the bar.
Could it be that Dominic was really the mastermind behind the email?
Alessia's cold face tensed slightly, her thoughts scattered.
Perhaps he found out her identity, so he used the email to trick her back to Canada.
First the bar, then the Dalton family in the fishing area, time and time again making her hopes dashed, was it all to get back at her?
Just because she tossed a coin back then?
That's right, back then he even mobilized the whole city to search for her.
Alessia couldn't help but furrow her brows.
She withdrew her thoughts and looked up, saying, "Let go!"
After speaking, she raised her hand to try to break free from the restraint, her elbow pressing against Dominic's chest.
Dominic didn't expect the woman in front of him, who looked delicate, to be so fast and accurate in her movements.
He instinctively turned sideways, let go of her hand, and then took the opportunity to embrace Alessia's waist.
Alessia didn't expect Dominic to dare to hold her. Her face turned cold, wanting to push Dominic away.
The black rocks had just been submerged by the tide a moment ago, so they were covered with moss.
Dominic was caught off guard by the fierce collision and the slippery rocks.
The next moment, there was a 'splash.'
Both of them fell into the sea.
