# 101 Truth Exposed?

After spending hours at the office, Mr. Blackwood drove Anna back to his house. This time around, it was her idea. She had pleaded to stay with him for a few days because Jenny was leaving town again tonight and she didn’t want to stay in Jenny’s house alone.

Arriving at the multimillion dollar mansion, Anna couldn’t help but notice that everywhere was more quiet than usual, although it was night already but not even the chirping of crickets could be heard.

“Where is everyone?” she asked in a whisper as she looked out the car window.

“Oh, I gave them a break earlier today, except the cleaners, they would be away for a whole week.” He responded.

“Oh,” she mouthed. “What about your mother?” she asked in a cracked voice.

“Mom… The last time you were here, perhaps you remember her promising to return to Mr. Forbes,” he said, carefully evading the word father.

“Ah, that is true.” Anna smiled as she thought back to that iconic dinner with OG Forbes, not something you forget in a hurry.

Maxwell parked the car and led her inside. “Come with me,” he said.

They walked up the grand stairs and she immediately recognized the hallway, it led to his room. However she became puzzled when they walked past his room door and on to the next.

Mr. Blackwood pushed the door open and pointed for her to go in first, and then he followed. Anna looked around, it was a fully furnished room with beautiful curtains and lights, but why did he bring her here?

She slowly turned back to face him with curious eyes. “It is pretty,” she said, not sure if that was what he was expecting to hear from her.

“I am glad you like it. This will be your new room while you are here, if you ever need anything, I am your next door neighbor.” He smiled.

Anna forced a smile back, however she didn’t feel comfortable with this idea. Why was he giving her a different room? Was he still mad at her for the way she treated him or was he just trying to be respectful? Either way, she didn’t like this.

“Thank you.” she muttered as her eyes glazed around the large room with its master bed in the middle. There was a TV on the wall and a computer set at one corner of the room.

“Sure. Get familiar with it and also get some rest, I will be in my room.” He said as he turned to walk away.

Anna immediately grabbed his arm. “Max, wait!” she said in a tone of urgency and he paused, turning back to her with curious eyes.

“Do you need something more? Don’t worry, I already ordered dinner for us dinner.” He grinned.

She chuckled softly. “No… not that! I am not even hungry, don’t bother sending dinner.”

“Okay, fine… No dinner then. So what is it?”

“Um… Listen, I know this is coming really late but I really want to apologize for everything I said to you the other day, I am sorry for accusing you of the things you didn’t do…”

“Well, it is not the first time.” Mr. Blackwood jokingly said with a smirk.

“Come on! Be serious,” she said in a tiny voice as she hit him gently on the chest. “I am really sorry for all that and I am not saying this because you covered my father’s bills, I am saying it because I feel really bad about the things I said to you, maybe you are right, I do need to see a psychiatrist.” She chuckled.

Mr. Blackwood pulled her closer to him, and cupped her cheeks, as they both looked into each other’s eyes. “I accept your apology Annabel Joseph, and I also know there is something you are not telling me, based on your attitude in the past few weeks.”

Ana’s heart skipped the moment he said that. Knowing she was in a vulnerable position, she prayed silently that he doesn’t ask her what she was hiding, she could never lie looking into his eyes like that.

Mr. Blackwood continued. “You have been trying so hard to make me hate you, utilizing every opportunity fate has thrown at you to achieve that, blaming me for the most absurd things. You need to stop trying, Ann, because it won’t work, you should rather tell me what the problem is and we would find a solution together.” He advised with nothing but love in his eyes.

Annabel didn’t know what to say, she only muttered a thank you. Max then kissed her on the forehead before letting go. “You get some sleep, it has been hectic the past two days.”

Anna nodded. “You too, goodnight.”

As Mr. Blackwood left the room, Anna sighed and walked down to the bed, she lay on her back staring at the ceiling and she wondered if it was the right time to tell him the truth, at this point, she felt like he deserved to know the truth about her pregnancy.

To take her thoughts off him, Annabel decided to call her mom, they had last spoken three hours ago and so she wanted to know if there had been any update on her father’s health.

“Hello Mama,” she said in her local accent as soon as her mother answered the call.

“Speranza, you are still up.” Her mom replied, calling her by her native name.

“Yes Mama, how is he doing? Is he getting better?” she asked curiously.

“Yes dear, the daughters say he is responding well to treatment, he is still unconscious but there is hope that he will get better.” She replied.

“Okay Mama, I hope you have not been crying?” Anna asked in concern.

“Don’t worry about me, Speranza. I will be fine. Are you all alone?”

Anna felt scared the moment her mom asked that, what did her mom intend to tell her that needed secrecy?

She hesitated before answering. “Yes Mom, I am all alone. Is there a problem? Did the Doctor say something?”

“No, it is not about the Doctor. Please who is the gentleman who settled all the bills? I know you are working but unless you have kept it a secret, I don’t believe you earn enough to pay off these bills, so what agreement did you have with him?”

Anna didn’t know how to feel about that question, it was a bit funny yet worrisome. “Mom, you don’t have to worry about that, he didn’t ask for a refund, he did it willingly to help us out.” She answered

There was silence from the other side, as if her mother doubted her. “Annabelle, that is a lot of money we are talking about, no one does something like that out of goodwill, you mean a stranger just gave out over sixty thousand pounds and wants nothing in return?”

“No mom, he is not a stranger, he is my friend.” Anna replied quickly, wanting to put her mom’s curious mind to rest.

“A friend?” she asked, the doubt in her tone very easy to decipher. “Okay, I would really like to speak to this friend, I want to thank him personally.”

Anna paused and scratched her head. She sat up from the bed with the phone to her ear, she had no idea what to say but she knew that she couldn’t let her mom speak to Mr. Blackwood at this point where their relationship had no definition.

Who knows what he would say to her mom? What if he tells her that he has feelings for her daughter? Or even tell her about their complicated past? She knew Blackwood could be unpredictable.

“Annabel?” her mother called to know if she was still there.

“Yes Mama, sorry the network cut me off.” She lied. “Mama, Maxwell is not around right now, he is a very busy man with a tight schedule but as soon as he is available for a phone call, I will inform him of your request. But for now, please focus on father and stop worrying over things like this, I promise you there is nothing to worry about.” She assured.

“Alright then Speranza, I will call you if there is any new information.”

“Sure Mom. Have a goodnight sleep.” She said to end the call.

Annabel sighed in relief as the call ended. She quickly took off her clothes and went into the bathroom for a shower. as she stood under the dropping shower, Annabel noticed that her belly bump was starting to show, it was still small but visible.

She rubbed it and smiled, admiring how cute it looked on her, but she feared what would happen when it grows bigger than this, she noticed her breasts were starting to swell as well, it was just a matter of time before MB notices the changes in her body.

As she was bathing, Annabel hears sounds in the bedroom and her heart flips in fear. Was it MB? What if he walked in here? She quickly looked around but there was no towel in the bathroom, everything was about to be exposed!!

So what then? What if he becomes hostile to her after learning that she was carrying another man’s baby for months and kept it away from him?
