Never give up
Never give up
Desmond glanced away, knowing that it wasn't even his problem at the moment. His main problem was that someone was about to extort a big amount of money from her. He couldn't stand it.
"Yeah, I know, but that’s not my problem right now." He said with a weak voice.
Bella raised an eyebrow in curiosity and asked. "What do you mean it’s not your problem? What’s going on? Which other problem do we have here than winning her back?"
Desmond hesitated for a moment before letting out a deep sigh. "There’s a man. Her so-called new boyfriend."
"Does she have a boyfriend?' Bella asked.
"Yeah, but the problem is that he's deceiving her. He’s about to extort a huge amount of money from her."
Mrs. Elizabeth and Bella both stared at him in shock, but Bella was the first to speak. "A huge amount of money?"
"How much money are we talking about?" His mom asked with a voice tinged with disbelief.
"I know you guys won't believe this, but this man is about to extort three million dollars from her." Desmond replied, and Mrs. Elizabeth’s eyes widened, and she placed a hand over her chest as if the sheer number had physically affected her.
Bella let out a low whistle, shaking her head. "Three million dollars? That’s insane. How in the world is she supposed to get that kind of money? And why is the boyfriend trying to extort that kind of money from her?"
"I still don't know the source of her income. Maybe she won a big lottery. Maybe she’s secretly a billionaire heiress. Who knows?" He said, and Bella gave him a skeptical look. "A billionaire heiress?" she repeated incredulously. "Come on, Desmond. Don’t you think that’s a bit far-fetched?"
"I don't think so." He replied. "Think about it. When she left the mansion after signing the divorce papers, someone picked her up in a Rolls Royce. And she refused to take any money from me—not a dime. Doesn’t that seem... odd to you? We never knew her family. She said her family lives in the village. That she will take us there on a good time until we separate. I think she was hiding something from us."
"I don't believe that. She was so humble. No one of that height would humble herself the way she did. But why would someone want to steal the huge amount of money from her?"
Desmond let out a frustrated sigh and ran a hand through his hair. "I don’t know, Mom," he admitted. "But I know one thing. I can’t let her fall into this trap. I can’t let that man take advantage of her."
"But how are you going to stop her, Desmond?" she asked gently. "She won’t even listen to you."
"I don’t know," Desmond replied. "But I’ll keep trying. I have to. I can’t just stand by and do nothing."
"You need to. Maybe you can win her heart again. This is your chance." The mom said, and Desmond gave it a thought. Maybe she was right. This would be a chance to reconcile with Anabel.
Finally, Desmond gestured toward the car. "Let’s go. We have been standing here long enough."
They nodded and entered the Rolls Royce without another word. Desmond slid into the driver’s seat and started the engine.
As he drove the car onto the main road, the silence inside was heavy, filled with unspoken concerns and lingering regrets. He didn’t know how he would protect Anabel, but he knew he wouldn’t stop trying. Not until Sylvester is exposed.
