Unnecessary excuses
Unnecessary excuses
About thirty minutes later, Anabel was preparing to take her bath when her phone rang. She checked, and it was Sylvester again. She took a deep breath and answered the call. Her suspicions were already weighing heavily on her mind.
"Hello, babe. So what is the update? What is your plan?" She asked.
"Babe, I have spoken to the doctor. He said that Vanessa cannot be transferred to another hospital." He replied.
"Why did he say so?" Anabel asked.
"He said she might not survive the transfer. Besides, this hospital is the best in the city." Sylvester replied, and Anabel smiled and shook her head. She had seen it coming. Nobody needs to tell her that Sylvester's insistence on keeping Vanessa in the same hospital despite her alternative suggestion was a sign that Desmond must be telling the truth. His response heightened her suspicions.
She couldn't ignore the growing doubt, though she decided to press further. "But babe, the hospital I mentioned has a great reputation and can perform the transplant immediately without requiring a deposit. Wouldn't it be worth considering, given the urgency of your cousin's health status?"
"I understand, babe, but the doctor said that Vanessa's condition is extremely delicate. Moving her around could cause complications that might worsen her state. I don't want to take that risk." Sylvester said.
"I see your point, but don't you think a second opinion might be helpful? If the hospital I'm recommending can start the procedure right away without deposits, she will be saved."
"Babe, the doctor here is one of the best doctors in the field." Sylvester was not ready to back down. "He has years of experience and a track record of successful transplants. Transferring Vanessa to another hospital with different protocols and doctors could be catastrophic."
"I understand the risks, but the other hospital has excellent facilities and a highly skilled medical team. If it means getting Vanessa the care she needs immediately, isn't it worth exploring?" Anabel asked.
Sylvester sighed, seeing that it wasn't going that easy as he had thought. Still, he was determined to convince her. "Anabel, please try to understand. Vanessa is in a fragile state. Any movement, any change in environment, could be detrimental to her. The doctor has been monitoring her condition closely, and he knows exactly how to handle it."
"I don't want to jeopardize Vanessa's health, but I also don't want to waste any more time. We need to act quickly."
"I agree, babe," Sylvester said with a soft voice. "But acting quickly doesn't mean taking unnecessary risks. We need to trust the expertise of the doctor who is already familiar with Vanessa's condition. Moving her might cause more harm than good."
At this point, Anabel could see that he wasn't ready to move Vanessa to another hospital. A patient with a liver problem can be transferred to different hospitals.
"Babe, if there's even the slightest chance that the other hospital could help, don't you think it's worth discussing with your doctor? Maybe he can coordinate with them to ensure a smooth transition. A patient with a liver problem can be transferred to another hospital. I don't see any problem with that."
"Babe, please," Sylvester said with a pleading tone. "The doctor is adamant that moving Vanessa is too risky. He wouldn't say that unless he truly believed it. We have to trust his words."
"Alright, babe. I understand your concerns. I will keep trying to resolve the issue with my bank. Just hold on a little longer." She said.
"Thank you, babe." The tension began to subside immediately. "Please let us know as soon as you have any updates. Vanessa's life depends on it."
"Alright," she said and ended the call. This was enough to believe that Sylvester was lying and Desmond was telling the truth, but she needed to be sure.
"I'm going to the hospital tomorrow. I need to confirm things myself." She said and went on to take her bath.
