The next day, Sylvester and Vanessa got prepared and headed to the hospital. The doctor had arranged their room for them. They got to the hospital, and the doctor took them to the room. Each day costs five hundred dollars, and Sylvester paid for four days.

Vanessa changed into a gown and lay on the bed. The doctor connected the ICU systems, making it look like she was battling between life and death.

"I will call Anabel now." Sylvester said and took a deep breath, then dialed Anabel's number.

"Hello, babe." Sylvester greeted just as Anabel picked up the call.

"Hi, babe. Good morning." She answered. "How are you doing?"

"I....…I'm fine, but." He paused.

"But what? Is there any problem?" Anabel asked, concerned.

"I don't want to talk about it. I can find a way and handle it." Sylvester said.

"Find a way and handle what?" Anabel asked.

"Don't worry yourself. I said I will handle it."

"You can still tell me. Maybe I can be of help." Anabel insists.

"I don't want to be a burden to you. This is beyond you." Sylvester said.

"I haven't said you are a burden to me. Tell me anything. I love you, and I can do anything for you."

"My cousin. Vanessa." Sylvester paused as if he were too weak to continue talking.

"Your cousin? What happened to her? Is she alright?" Anabel asked.

"She was diagnosed with a liver problem. The doctor said she needed a liver transplant. We are in the hospital now."

"That's terrible. Have they started the treatment?"

"That's where the problem lies. The doctor said it will cost three million dollars for everything, and I...I…don't have the money. I got scammed recently, so I don't have enough money."

"Such a bad news. But why didn't you tell me that you got scammed? Why are you hiding everything from me?" Anabel asked.

"I don't want to be disturbing you. I'm a man. I don't want to be a burden to my woman."

"So how much do you have now?" She asked.

"I've spent five thousand dollars on drugs, medication, and other things. Right now I have just twenty five thousand dollars. I've been trying to reach my friends and borrow from them, but they are not responding.

"Three million dollars is a very big amount of money. You know what? Let me come and see her first. Which hospital is that?" Anabel asked him the name and the ward they were admitted to.

Sylvester answered and Anabel hung up and prepared to go. Meanwhile, Sylvester and Vanessa were smiling to the other side, seeing that their plan was working.

Anabel called her driver and cleared her desk. Before she could get to the parking lot, her driver was already inside. The assigned guards were in their car, waiting for her. To make sure that nothing happened to her, her father assigned 4 able-bodied guards to protect her.

"Take me to Akylife hospital." She told him, and he drove off. When Anabel arrived at the hospital, she was directed to the ICU by a nurse. Her eyes widened as she saw Vanessa lying on the bed, seemingly connected to various machines.

Sylvester was sitting by Vanessa’s side. He looked up as Anabel entered and went to greet her.

“You are here already. Thank you for coming." He said, taking her hand.

"I had to leave all I'm doing and rush to know her condition. How is she doing?" Anabel asked.

"I don't understand what the doctor was saying, but all I know is that he needed me to act fast if I didn't want my cousin to die."

He walked up to the bed and held on to Vanessa's hand. "How can this happen so sudden?"

"I'm even confused. She was doing house chores and suddenly slumped. I rushed her here, and she was diagnosed with a failed liver."

"What about her father and mother? Have you informed them?" Anabel asked, and Sylvester's mind went wild, thinking of the best answer to the question. He wasn't expecting the question from her.

"Her father is dead, and her mother is sick." He managed to say. "Her mother may not survive if she hears the news. So I haven't informed her."
