Chapter 21 Quit the show

Chapter 21 Quit the show

Third person POV

Rachel and Martha sat opposite each other in the open restaurants without saying anything.

Rachel's heart couldn't stop beating as she thought of the many things her mother would want to talk to her about. Everything leads back to Lana.

She was very sure that Lana had a hand in this meeting, and what her mother was about to say would prove it.

"Mother... How... How have you been?" Rachel asked hesitatingly before she picked up her coffee, sipping it slowly but shakily.

Martha just stared at her without movement; it scared Rachel even more not knowing what was going on in her mother's head.

"Mum... Please say something." She pleaded keeping down her coffee cup.

"What do you expect me to say?" Martha finally spoke, her tone and attitude cold.

Rachel was taken aback by her mother's cold voice but didn't show it.

"Why are you speaking to me like that... If anything I'm the one who was wronged..."

"You... Wronged?" Martha laughed mockingly, picking you her coffee and sipping from it slowly.

"It was all a misunderstanding, and you know it, your sister even apologized even when she was not at fault... Yet you refuse to just forgive and move on!"

Rachel's hands holding the cup shook.

Her sister? Lana was not her sister, and she would never be

And she said it was a misunderstanding?

"No mum... You got it all wrong; Lana and David are lying to you; they were not drugged; this isn't..." Rachel tried to explain but the loud sound that came from Martha slamming the cup on the chair interrupted her.

"That's what you want to believe!" Martha shouted angrily.

"Even after Lana had apologized for something she knows nothing about, you still go ahead to threaten her... Rachel, this was not the way I raised you!" Martha said raising her voice.

Rachel's heart felt pained. Her eyes became red and her body shook in pain and anger. Her mother rarely raised her voice; the first time she did, she shouted at her, and this was the second time.

Why did her mother not believe her? Was Lana so important in her mother's eyes that even the truth?

And what was she saying about threatening Lana?

"Mum, I... I don't understand what you are saying; I don't..."

"Not only did you disrespect your family by refusing to go back to David, you also began sleeping with men for money? Rachel,"

"Mother!" Rachel stood up suddenly.

This was too much!

Who was feeding her mother all these lies?

"Mother! How can you say that?" She asked, her voice croaking from the soft sobs that escaped from her lips.

"Don't you try to lie to me, I know everything... But I don't care... I'm not going to involve myself in your business if that's the life you've chosen for yourself; I don't care; just don't involve my daughter in it! She's a good child I don't want that to be ruined by you!" Martha yelled coldly.

Rachel couldn't hold her sob anyone. The only person that was on her side was her mother, but now Lana had taken even that away from her.

"I'm not involving your daughter in anything; I don't even know what you're talking about! So you called me here to tell me how much of a good daughter Lana is?" She swung her hand sharply accidentally hitting the coffee cup on the table, spilling most of the contents on her hands.

She looked at her mother to see if she would care about the red mark that was forming on her hand, but Martha didn't even look concerned that her hand was scalding, she just looked away.

Rachel snorted, her hands trembling.

"I don't care what you're here for, but I'm telling you now, it's a lie"

Martha stood up glaring at Rachel.

"I don't know you anymore. You're no longer the daughter I once knew. The little girl I took pity on and took to my care..."

Rachel shook her head.

"No, I think you mean the little girl who you took to substitute your lost daughter but now throw away because she's back..." Rachel began shouting but the sharp sting that suddenly appeared on her face made her stop.

Her face was swung to the side by the heavy slap Martha gave her.

"Don't you dare speak to me in that manner." Her mother warned wiggling her finger in front of her angrily.

Rachel was shut of words.

Her mother just slapped her... Her mother had just slapped her!

She looked up to Martha shocked.

"You slapped me, because of Lana?" She asked with shock laced in her voice, the tears that had built up in her eyes began falling down rapidly.

Martha was shocked at her actions but she immediately recovered from it.

This was the first time she had laid her hands on Rachel and was surprised, but she covered the surprise with her cold gaze.

"Yes... And I'll do it again. I don't care if you keep sleeping with men for money, but don't you dare threaten my daughter again, and to make sure of that I want you to quit the new show you're cast in."

Rachel couldn't help but snort, she sniffled trying to get her voice.

"Is it because Lana complained to you that we would be working together? Is that why you're doing this?" She asked with a small voice.

Martha didn't know how to answer. This was the first time she was seeing her daughter, no... Rachel, like this.

But this was for her real daughter, she just had to do this. Rachel may be her daughter... But only on paper, she have birth to Lana and she had missed a lot in her life. It was only best that she supported her daughter.

"No..." Martha said her voice a bit hoarse from shouting to much and from the tears that came to her eyes seeing Rachel this broken.

"... It's because I don't want you inconveniencing my daughter in any way. Lana is a good child, no matter what you do to her, she always has your side. She pleads for you everytime... Why can't you see how good of a sister she is?" She asked her voice softened.

"And how can't you see that she is playing you, all of you?" Rachel in turn asked.

Martha shook her head. Her daughter would be impossible to convince. Rachel had always been like that, so hot headed. It would be impossible for her to change her her mind now.

"I see you don't want to change... You don't want things to go back to how things use to be..."

"Things can never go back to how it used to be... Not even if you refuse to see what's right in front of you." Rachel cried.

Martha smirked. The tears that had formed in her eyes vanished.

Rachel was not ready to acknowledge her wrongs, so she didn't deserve her pity.

She picked up her purse before turning back to Rachel, her cold expression had returned.

"All I came her to tell you is to drag out of the cast, you and Lana can't be in the same show, I don't want you near my daughter."

Rachel stared at her mother.

This woman was no longer her mother.... She had her real child now.

But since she refused to behave like a mother, she won't behave like her child.

Her expression turned cold, her sharp blue eyes gazed on her mother coldly.

"I'm sorry mother, but I have to decline your request. I got the part in the show fair and square, I don't care what you heard about how I got my part, but I'm staying in the show."

Martha was taken aback by Rachel's cold voice. This was the first time she had heard it.

"Rachel you..." Martha was furious!

"If that's all you called me for, then I'll be leaving." Rachel said picking up her purse.

"Goodbye mother." She said coldly giving her mother a forced smile before leaving.

Martha kept her eyes on Rachel and watched her vanish into a corner.

"That girl..." Before she could complete her statement she saw Rachel get into a fancy car.

Her eyes widened.

"So Lana was indeed right!"
