After Divorce: Loved by the Secret Billionaire CEO

Chapter 12 I could see sparks

Chapter 12 I could see sparks

Rachel's POV

"What happened in that house, Rachel? Tell me!"

I flinched at how loud Ethan's voice sounded. He was so close to me causing his voice to be more powerful and loud than normal.

There were a lot of consequences if she revealed the truth to him, but he didn't look like he was going to take no for an answer.

"I...Lana is..." I darted my eyes everywhere looking away from his piercing gaze. But then I stopped.

A thought suddenly came to me. It was my family. I didn't have to inform him about anything.

With that thought in mind, I pursed my lips and glared at him.

"It's not your business."

"Wha... What do you mean it's not my business?" Ethan's face slowly became rigid. He brought his face closer to me, causing me to back up.

"I... Er... I mean exactly what I said." My back touched the headboard with a slight sound.

I couldn't move anymore, but Ethan's face kept coming closer.

Then he raised his hand to my face.

I shut my eyes ever so tightly to brace myself for the slap.

But instead of a sharp pain on my face, I felt his cold touch again. His fingers caressed my face slowly, making every place he touched more hotter than the last.

What is he doing?

My breath hitched and he went down to my neck. I had no choice but to lean into his touches.

A knock on the door brought me out of back to my senses. I opened my eyes to see Ethan looking at me... No, more like intensely glaring at me.

"Sir Ethan, Ms. Joyce is here." The maid reported from behind the door.

Ethan still had his eyes on me making me uncomfortable.

"Let her in"

What? Like this?

Anyone would misunderstand if they were to see me and Ethan in the position we are in right now.

"Ethan..."

"I'll ask you the question again when the doctor is gone, and you better have answers for me." He backed away and I let out a sigh of relief.

As if on cue, the door opened to reveal a fair-skinned, beautiful lady in a white doctor's coat carrying a large bag.

This was Joyce?

She was gorgeous!

"Ethan... I think you should leave me with the girl." The doctor said when she noticed how uncomfortable I was because of Ethan's gaze which was fixed on me.

Did she just call him by his name? They must be close. I pictured a doctor named Joyce with Ethan, and a feeling surged up in me as if it was a feeling I was unfamiliar with.

Joyce could be his girlfriend or even his wife.

Ethan rose and straightened his suit, which I just noticed he was wearing because my head was under the blankets when he came.

"Oh... And by the way, you are my business... Do every concerning you is also my business." Ethan said as he walked out leaving me with the doctor.

I was left stunned.

I was his business?

Why would someone say something like that when his girlfriend was here?

Heat rose to my face as I stared at the doctor.

"He doesn't mean that." I muttered to the doctor.

The lady just smiled at me, revealing her two dimples.

"I think he meant it." She replied to me as she sat beside me on the bed.

She brought out the big bag she brought in with her. She brought out a few medicines, a thermometer, and her stethoscope.

"I need to check how high your temperature is."

I nodded in understanding, opening my mouth for her to put the thermometer. But what I couldn't understand was why she was so cool when Ethan just said something so cheesy to me.

Were they in an open relationship?

She waited for a while before she removed it.

"Your temperature is indeed very high." Then she began scribbling something on her notepad.

"I just have to ask..." I began making her look up.

I was too curious about her relationship with Ethan to think of anything else.

"Anything." She dropped her notepad and pen and gave me her full focus.

"Ahem... It's about you and Ethan... I mean, Mr Wright... Are you too like... You know... Together?"

A smile slowly rose on her cheeks before it turned into a full-blown chortle.

What is so funny?

Her laughter was really annoying. Did it mean I was wrong, or was she just so surprised that I guessed it?

"I'm so sorry; I didn't mean to laugh, but... it is just so funny." Joyce said, still chucking when she noticed I wasn't. She was the only one laughing.

"What is so funny?" I asked with a straight face.

If it wasn't for the fact my body felt like it had been run over by a truck, I could swear that I would have beaten the hell out of this doctor by now.

If there was one thing other than lies I hate, was being taken as a joke.

"Thinking there is something between me and Ethan." I looked at her skeptically.

"Don't get me wrong; there is something between us. I'm his personal doctor and a long-time acquaintance of his... But nothing else. "

Oh... Now I knew what was funny.

I was wrong.

I felt a bit embarrassed by her revelation.

I let out an embarrassing laugh.

"But you and Ethan... There I could see sparks". I immediately shook my head.

No, which sparks where?

"No... He's just helping me. Actually... We're old acquaintances too".

The lady gave me a look.

She didn't believe me.

Yeah, who would believe me after what Ethan said before he left? He literally countered every excuse I could make with just one sentence.

That I was his business... How cheesy does that sound?

But seriously, what was Ethan playing at?

"I don't mind if you're with him. In my opinion the man has been single for way too long". Joyce said, giving me a small, kind smile. One that I had to return.

Then she returned to scribbling something on her pad.

"Okay, you just have a normal fever. Did you stay out in the cold or something? "

"Yeah... Something like that".

"What about this bruise on your face... " The expression on her face suddenly changed.

" Did Ethan hit you? " She whispered but loud enough for me to hear.

"No... "

Ethan would never hurt me. At least that was what I believe from his gentle actions towards me.

"It was a family member... My grandfather. ". I did not want to fall about the matter any further, and thank God she understood.

She just nodded and removed her hand from the bruise.

I still had to explain it to Ethan.

"I'll give Ethan a cream you need to take if you want to clear the bruise without leaving any mark. As for your fever, I'll prescribe a few medicines to Ethan, and in a few days, you will be back to normal. But for now, you need plenty of rest. Don't stress yourself, in any way at all... "

Her last sentence had a hidden meaning.

It took me a few seconds to realize what she meant. My face flushed red.

"We are not like that! We are just friends... Or even less than that".

How can she insinuate something like that!? I've never thought of Ethan that way.

Well not until I met him again... Argh... Rachel shit up your mind!

"Yeah... I believe you... " Joyce rolled her eyes as she said in a very sarcastic way.

"What's your name by the way?" She asked me as she was about to leave.

"Rachel".

She nodded.

"I'm Joyce".

"I know".

"Are you guys done? I need to talk to Rachel in private". Ethan suddenly burst in.

The way he said the in private, made it sound like everything I've been trying to deny to Joyce was true.

Joyce chuckled.

Shit! She understood what was going on in my head.

"Why!!!"

I dragged the blanket over my head to cover my flushed face in embarrassment.

"I'll be leaving now; get these medicines for her... Or better yet, I'll have someone bring them over". I heard Joyce tell Ethan.
