Alpha's Little Miracle

Chapter 114

Chapter 114

ADRIA’S POV.

I was stunned. How dangerous could it be that only two people survived? Out of almost twenty-three people my mum knew went to the land of the Dreaded, she only heard of two returning?

What in the world happened to the remaining twenty-one?

The whole thing felt scary to me, but I already knew in my mind that I wasn’t going back. I was going to go to the Land of the Dreaded, and return with Lucien by my side.

“Just two. No one else.” Mum added, and I sighed. I could see why she was worried about us going. If my daughter were to go somewhere as scary, and dangerous too, I would be scared out of my wits.

“Trust me, Mrs. Williams. We will make it back.” Lucien reassured her, and she took a deep breath.

Thereafter, she looked at me.

“Assure me your exams will go fine if I give you this chance to fight for your love.” She said, and I nodded vigorously.

It felt like a huge weight had been lifted off me. Days ago, I hadn’t known what exactly to do, and it made it feel like a huge rock had been placed on my neck.

But finally knowing there was something I could do, something I could look forward to, and prepare for, it made me feel better.

“We’ll need all the information we can get.” Lucien requested, and my mum nodded.

“Yes, you’ll also need the materials to get you there. It’s not an ordinary land, and humans cannot enter. The land of the Dreaded is in whatever forest you go to. You’ll always find it.” She advised, and I closed my eyes.

I was scared, but ready to face whatever it was I had to face.

Luckily for me, my exams went fine. It was miraculous how I read beautifully when it was time for them.

My anxiety had flown away with my heavy worries, and our journey to the land of the dreaded was another worry for another time.

I wrote my exams perfectly, and my friends were only too happy to have me back, with my confidence that they got too much of.

The results came in, and I had come out at the top once more, but could not beat the happiness of Tommy, and Stacy, who had managed to move about six positions from the bottom.

We all went to have fun over some food, and Stacy dragged us all to go clubbing.

“So, what are your plans for the holiday?” Stacy asked, already looking drunk from all the alcohol she drank.

“My grandmother always wants me to visit with my cousins. She loves a full house, and although the house is already full, she wants an even fuller house.” Tommy explained, and we burst into laughter.

“Well, my family and I are flying to Paris for my aunt’s wedding. I would love to pass out invitations if…”

“Oh my! I’m making it there! You’ll pay for my flight, though. I’d love to see your aunt get married, Daniel. Maybe we could also climb the altar, and get married. Oh, how I’d love a Paris wedding!” Stacy squealed drunkenly, barely able to support herself on her chair, and we all burst out in laughter.

She wavered side to side, like a stuck sheet of paper tossed by the wind.

“I’d have loved to make it, but I’m going to Lucien’s hometown. Don’t know the name, I forgot to ask Lucien, but I’m going to meet his family.” I announced, pouring water for Stacy instead of more alcohol.

“Woah!” Daniel exclaimed, and they began to clap.

“Wow! You’re getting married, too!” Stacy exclaimed in a drunken tone, and I pushed her head onto the table while the guys laughed.

“We’re definitely getting married, but that’s much later after school.” I said, and they laughed again. Imagining me as a married woman was almost impossible.

“Why are you always drinking from that tumbler?” Stacy asked, pointing to my tumbler of blood.

“Because Lucien gave it to me as a gift, and it’s precious.” I replied immediately, taking the tumbler out of her reach.

“It looks like wine, but smells horrible. I smelled it once.” She continued in that same drunken tone, and I stuffed a buttered roll into her mouth, to keep her from talking.

When the holidays officially began, I packed my things up, looking for more stuff I’d need. Lucien and I had decided not to waste any time.

“You’re not gonna need any of that.” My mum said, leaning on the doorway.

“I’m not?” I asked, and looked back at the little I packed. “But they’re so little, I was even wondering if they’d be enough, if I’d run out of clothes while I’m there.” I replied, and a mocking smile lit her face.

“Let’s say you’re running from snakes, or from a large bear, would you be able to change clothes?” She asked, taking out the clothes from my bag, and I gave a silly laugh.

“I wasn’t thinking.”

“You wouldn’t even have a chance to think about you being dirty. Honestly, you’re going to be worried about other things.” She said, then looked at me intently, like she was seeing me for the last time.

I hated that look in her eyes.

That miserable look that was given to cancer patients on deathbeds.

“I’m not dying, okay?” I said, and she sniffed, before hugging me close to her.

“I know. I know. Yes, you’re not dying.” She replied, still sniffing, and I hugged her as tightly as I could.

After patting her, and comforting her, I left the house looking like I was going to the convenience store. I hated to see her cry, but it was something I had to do.

I waved at her for a long time, feeling determined, but immediately I was on my way to Lucien’s house.

All my determination crumbled. It felt like I was a zombie. Dead already, but still clinging to my body.

That was what my determination felt like.

Would I ever… would I ever have the chance to see my mother again?
