Chapter 108
Chapter 108
ADRIA’S POV
After Lucien left, I had cleaned up the dishes, and arranged the house, while smiling to myself because it felt like we were married already.
When I was done with all the cleaning, I sat in front of the television, which was tuned in to the news channel.
“We’re not even in the morning. Why is this playing?” I asked, searching around for the remote controller. “Where is it? I thought I saw it earlier.” I said to myself, as I got up from the sofa to search for the remote. “Did you fall?” I asked, bending to check underneath the center table.
My hair fell over my face, and I tucked it behind my ear, and just then, my phone rang. I turned, and looked at it.
A silly smile crept on my face as I walked to it. I wondered if it was Lucien, but alas, it was my mother, and I giggled at my stupidity.
Why did I even think it was Lucien? Was I already missing him?
“Hey, mom.”
“Hi, honey. How are you doing? You seem to be moving already. When last did I see you home?” She teased, and I giggled.
“Moving where? I’m going nowhere. I’ll always be there to disturb you, and take up your space. Speaking of that, me being home all the time might actually be the reason you haven’t given me a dad all these years.”
“Gosh, Adria.” She exclaimed, giggling.
“Isn’t that the case?”
“It’s definitely not the case. You’re really something else, aren’t you?”
“A bag of frustration.” I answered, and she laughed again.
“A lovely bag of frustration.”
“Aww. Thank you. Have you taken breakfast?”
“Breakfast? That was ages ago. I just had lunch.”
“Oh, forgive me.” I giggled. “Lucien and I had brunch.”
“What? You guys woke up late, or something?”
“Yeah, yeah, we did. We had a kind of party for Derek leaving. The nasty vampire friend. He’s gone.”
“Really!”
“Yeah, Lucien scared him off.”
“Impressive, Adria. You got yourself a good man.”
“I know I did, mum.” I said giggling, and unintentionally, my eyes caught the news on the TV where a woman was talking frantically amidst a crowd of other reporters.
“The bodies have been found. All dead bodies. The missing girls have been found, and…”
“Mum, can I call you back later?” I asked, still staring at the TV…
“Adria, what’s wrong? Are you okay?” She asked, noticing my change of tone.
“Yeah, yeah, I’m fine. Just… just check the news.”
“Uh… O…okay?”
“Bye.” I said, and ended the call.
My fingers were trembling. What if they found out there were vampire attacks? Would I be safe? Would wolves start hunting for me, thinking I was the one behind it all?
Then I dialed Lucien’s number. It was the only thing I could think of at that moment.
He picked my call almost immediately, and I was really thankful for that.
“Lucien… The bodies have been found.” I said, restlessly, unable to keep my fear from seeping into my words.
“The bodies?”
“The bodies I and Derek kept. They have been found.”
“Wait. Did you know where they were all this while?” He asked.
“No, I didn’t. He always took care of the bodies.”
“Just calm down, okay. I’m not going to let anything happen to you. The meeting ended well. The blame is all on Derek because it truly is his fault. He lured you, and used you. You don’t need to worry about them being found. No one will look for you, or threaten you.” He assured, and I nodded, even though he couldn’t see me.
“Alright. I’ll… I’ll just be here. I won’t worry.” I said.
“I’ll soon be home…”
“The bodies have been decomposed after days in the water, and…” The reporter was saying, and my heart lit up in hope.
“Do you think it would be of any help if the bodies were decomposed, and scabby in water?” I asked.
“Derek hid them in the water? Yes. Yes. The tiny holes made by teeth will be barely visible. It’s fine.” He assured me, and I took in a deep breath.
“I guess they were in the little stream close to our meeting place all along, and I knew nothing about it.” I said, staring at the female reporter on the screen.
“I guess.”
“They must have searched the water too. Too bad they can’t find Derek now.”
“Finally, we can have some peace. I’m on my way.”
“Alright.”
I took in a deep breath, after ending the call, then called my mother back.
“Everything’s fine now.” I said, with a little smile.
“Was it about the bodies being found?”
“Yeah, but it’s fine now. They’re decomposed.” I assured her.
“Now it’s time to move on, and be a better person, okay?”
“Yep. I’m also ready to move on, and be a better person.”

Lucien returned shortly, and I was delighted to see him. I threw my hands around him in joy, and he hugged me back.
“I hope you haven’t been here brooding all by yourself.” He asked, after giving me a swift kiss on the lips.
“No, I actually found this really interesting movie. Come, come… I’ll explain it all to you.” I said, dragging him to sit on the sofa with me.
He took off his shoes, socks, and jacket, and leaned back on the chair.
“Ohh! I know this movie. I wasn’t able to finish it up.” He said, straightening up in excitement.
“You do! Damn, I’m raking my head in curiosity trying to know who killed Damien among the three sisters. I know I shouldn’t suspect the bad one because that’s obviously what they want, but I also can’t suspect Doria, she’s too innocent, and childlike.”
“My bet is on Shaz who keeps secrets all the time.”
“Nah… I don’t think so.” I said, and we stopped talking immediately because they were showing an intense scene that had our eyes glued to the screen.
And just then, I felt a kind of heat rising within me. What was this feeling? It began to burn hotter, and I tried taking a deep breath, but it only felt like it got worse.
My lips ran dry, and it felt like the feeling that came when I was thirsty for blood, but… it didn’t seem like the case. It was like a whole brand-new feeling.
Like something was rising in me, finding its way to the top.
My fingers stiffened, and my nails began to lengthen.
What was happening? What…?
I looked at Lucien, to tell him what was happening, but staring at him made me angry.
It felt like uncontrollable rage. Why was he here? What was he doing here? My breath came out fast and shaky, and I wanted to hit him!
Why… why… Why was I mad at Lucien? Why did I feel like hitting him? I asked myself, but I knew my question was wrong… I was only trying to tone things down a bit.
My real question was… Why did I feel like killing him?
