Chapter 84
Chapter 84
ADRIA’S POV
A gasp flew out of my mouth, and my hands found my lips, covering them, so not another sound would escape it.
I was horrified. My feet fell a step back, and I tried so hard not to blink. He didn’t even look like he was sucking, yet the girl’s expression was one of pain.
She was feeling a lot of pain, at the moment.
I fell back again, wondering if I would make it if I ran. Was he going to make me a prey? What if he decided to suck my blood because I got scared of him?
No, vampires didn’t suck other vampires’ blood, did they?
Finally, he raised his head from the girl, and another drop of blood rolled down from her neck where two little deep pink holes had been made.
They were the holes made by his teeth. The girl turned back to being expressionless, and I felt pity for her.
“Go home.” He commanded her, and she began to walk blindly away from where we stood.
Derek had a drop of blood that had run down a corner of his mouth, and when he saw me staring, he wiped it off with his bent index, and smirked.
Then he moved closer to me. My heart rate spiked up, and I began to move backwards even faster, but he followed me, still with that smirk on his face.
“Don’t… don’t come closer.” I whimpered, dropping my hands, and turned to run with a scream, but before I could run two feet away, he was already in front of me, with a finger on my lips.
I opened my mouth to scream once more but…
“Don’t scream.” He commanded softly, taking his index finger off my lips, and I felt compelled not to scream. I couldn’t even open my lips.
“What’s wrong with you? Do you think I’m going to kill you? I called you here for a reason, remember? We’re allies, we’re friends, we’re the same kind, we’re vampires!” He reminded me, shaking my shoulders, and at once, I saw the Derek I had seen the previous night.
Not the monster I had seen moments ago.
It was just what he had done, that had unnerved me. How could he suck the blood of a human willingly? Well, he was a vampire, but still, I had thought he was a good one since he walked alone.
“Do you need an explanation? He asked, lifting my chin up, so I could look into his eyes.
“Okay… okay, yes.” I replied, in a little voice, forcing my head back down, as I couldn’t speak while looking into his eyes.
“Follow me.” He asked, leading me to sit on the smaller parts of the rock. I sat, and he sat next to me.
“This is what happened. I have to live, and keep my senses. If I don’t drink human blood, I will go wild, but I pity the humans, so that’s why I take just a little amount.” He explained, staring at me. “The other vampires drink until the humans are dead, until they have no ounce of blood left in them, while I on the other hand, do not drink from whomever I’ve drunk from in the past.”
“You don’t?”
“No, I don’t. I’m sincere. I have to drink more blood to get stronger. It enhances my abilities more, and more. A little blood doesn’t hurt them. I simply called out to her, hypnotized her, and made her follow me. The first lesson today was to teach you the essence of blood to a vampire.
“We don’t just drink because we’re wicked, and wish to inflict pain on people. Rather, we drink to survive. We drink because we need it. And today, I’m going to trigger your instinct to run because blood or no blood, every vampire is blessed with the ability to run, and ride the wind.”
I looked into his beautiful silvery gray eyes, and was able to find sincerity in them. He was telling the truth.
“Okay. So, what you’re saying is, it’s just like food. Well, I knew that before. I just learned to acquaint blood sucking with evil, and wickedness.” I explained myself to him, playing with my fingers, and he chuckled.
“Very soon, you will need it too, but for now, we’re going to ride the wind.” He declared, getting to his feet, and pulling me up with him.
Then, he looked at me with a smile. “Are you ready?” He asked, holding on to my hand tightly.
“Okay wait, I don’t know what we’re going to do, but I will have to ensure my shoes are well laced.” I chuckled in excitement, stopping him, and bending to tighten my laces.
“You might as well just chuck them off. You should have a healing ability now. Although I’m pretty sure it’s still locked, but even if you step on stones, and bleed, you’ll heal. Even though it might be slow. Your healing rate depends on your strength. The amount of blood you drink, and how strong you are. The stronger you are, the faster you’ll heal, so heads up. Chuck those shoes off.” He explained, bending to take off his shoes.
I took off my shoes, and unexpectedly, he suddenly dragged me into a run. At first, he was as fast as an Olympics athlete, and I ran simply so I wouldn’t fall.
“Derek! Derek!! Wait!” I called, as my legs couldn’t go as fast as his, but just then I felt my legs get faster. “Woah! Derek! What’s happening!?” I squealed in excitement, as we jumped over branches, and pushed aside leaves, running under the little moonlight pouring through the trees.
Derek increased his pace, and I laughed as mine adjusted to it in seconds.
“Hey!” I called again, laughing.
“We’re riding the wind gradually!” He replied, still holding on to me tightly.
My heart was in my mouth, not out of fear, but of excitement. My body was vibrating from the sheer force of being excited. Sweat poured from my forehead, and my mouth was left open, laughing even as I ran.
Each time Derek increased his pace, mine adjusted to his, and I knew it when he began to use the blazingly fast vampire speed.
The trees raced past us in a blur, and I felt like a train racing past. Looking down at my legs, I discovered they were also a blur, and I screamed, as we went around in circles.
“Damn it! I’m a vampire!” I screamed out loud.
“We are vampires!” He screamed in return, then finally left my hand for us to race each other.
Never had I ever felt so alive, and free.
