Alpha's Little Miracle

Chapter 70

Chapter 70

LUCIEN’S POV

The door pushed open and Zayne came in looking weary.

“Nothing?” I asked even though it was quite obvious. Zayne had decided to search for Adria in other places and he had told me to stay in case anything like her escaping happened or if any other clue came in, and it had been agony waiting.

“I searched almost everywhere. I just couldn’t find her. She just… she just seems to have disappeared from New Orleans completely. The unoccupied buildings, warehouses, everything… I checked it all. I asked people if they’d seen her but it was all useless. Some said they knew her but not her whereabouts. I checked out the place I was told she frequented, and it was the same thing.” Zayne informed me as his tired legs made their way to the sofa. He plopped down on it in exhaustion, and heaved a heavy sigh.

I hit the dining table at which I was seated and the food items on it jumped up at the force which I had hit it with.

“I met her mother. She was also searching with the police. The police said she had been with them all morning and refused to return. I convinced her to rest if she wanted to be in good condition by the time she saw her daughter once more, and it was only then that she allowed me to take her home.” Zayne continued, still staring up at the ceiling, and I sighed. How could I not find a single human girl?

I knew I would never be the same if anything happened to Adria due to my incapability.

It would haunt me forever. Zayne saw my troubled expression and got up from his seat.

“You shouldn’t blame yourself. None of this is our fault. Things just happened the way they did. I’ll go around and check once more. We shouldn’t give up.” He said, and I looked up at him. He was tired, and beaten up yet he was willing to search more so he could increase our chances of finding Adria and so I wouldn’t have to blame myself.

“Zayne. I’ll go this time around.” I disagreed, getting to my feet.

“You have to stay here. We don’t know what useful information might come our way. You know her best and information about her that would be useful but I do not so I insist on going.” He insisted, and turned away, moving towards the door and I sighed.

Worry had drained the energy in me. I couldn’t even argue. All I wanted was to see her. I just wanted to see her face, to hear her speak to me. It was all I wanted, and honestly it was so hard to stay put. It was harder than searching endlessly for her.

I waited for hours and Zayne didn’t return. It was already dark and I waited out on my balcony, scanning the area. Then, as I was about to return into the house, I heard a loud painful screech and my heart jolted. It was Adria.

It had come from the other side of the street—the deserted street.

I ran back into the house, raced down the stairs, and dashed out the door, running out into the streets.

Hiding in the shadows, I ran using my full strength and made sure no human noticed me. The scream was faraway, they couldn’t hear it but I did.

I made it to the desolate street and ran into it, panting hard in fear of what was happening to Adria at the moment. I was there. I was almost there, she was close to me. I could get her easily.

I would see her again. I didn’t know how much I had missed and longed for her until that moment when I was cursing my legs to move faster. If I could fly, I would have done so straight from my balcony. Jumping down would have been faster too but I couldn’t risk being seen. The next scream came. This one was like a pained grunt and I saw I had reached a dead end, but it wasn’t.

I climbed over the largest house yet to be demolished and on top of it, I saw the other half of the woods. It had been blocked off by thick trees and the only back to the first half of the woods was a really long journey. The criminal was smart, but he was about to get what he deserved for messing with me.

ADRIA’S POV

I didn’t know I could make such a pained sound like the one I had just released. My scream was a mix of fear, pain and a little bit of anger. Monica held me down with her strong fingers, the claws of which pierced into my skin, and bit down hard on my shoulder.

It felt like something hot was passed from her bite and started traveling through my body in a powerful wave. I gave a grunt of pain as I could no longer hold it, and bit down on my own arm. Monica didn’t stop, instead she clamped down harder on my shoulder and it felt like she was biting through my bones. I screamed, and shook violently, writhing on the floor. My body was burning up and it was impossible to stop screaming. Monica put her hands in my mouth to stop me and I bit it while giving muffled sounds, but the harder I bit it, the harder she also bit me.

Her spit dribbled down my shoulder hot and stinging and she didn’t mind that I was jerking uncontrollably. My eyes were seeing different things at a time and my ears were ringing. Everything combined at once made me feel like I was staring death straight in the eye.

“Monica!” I suddenly heard, and Monica gasped, straightened up in a bolt, and pushed me violently. I rolled further and ended up hitting my head on a tree. Warm blood washed down my face and my head felt light.

My hands found their way to my shoulder and I cried even harder as the pain was simply too unbearable, and then I discovered the person who had come to my aid was Lucien.

My cries became even louder.

What had taken him so long? Why was he coming only now? I had been so scared, I had thought I’d die. Why was he only coming at this moment. Did he even know I was missing? Why did I have to go through all that misery before he arrived.

“Lu… Lucien…” Monica called, shakily as she stood to her feet.

Lucien’s eyes gleamed a dangerous red in the dark and his chest heaved heavily as his fingers were balled up into tight fists.

“I… I can explain.”

“You… how dare you?” Lucien asked in a dangerous low voice as he took a slow step towards Monica.

“I… I can explain! I found her! I found her for you, Lucien!” She screamed and Lucien’s lip formed a tight line.

“Do you know what you have just done? Any ideas? I’ll make sure you regret this in all your lifetimes to come.” He threatened, and my wails went softer as I became drastically weak.

“What have I done? What have I done? I saved her!”

“Don’t give me that shit, Monica! I know what you did! You kept her for days, you saw everything going on, you saw everyone panicking and you went on to keep her and even poison her with your bite? How would you like it to have a taste of a wolf’s bite? I bet you’ve never been bitten before?” He asked, still walking towards Monica who backed away. I saw fear fleet in her eyes and she shook her head.

“The bite is only poisonous to humans. Why, why would you bite me?”

“Take out your claws.”

“Wh…what?”

“Take out your damn claws!”

“Lucien…”

“Now!”

“Lucien, she’s just a human!”

“She’s my human! She’s mine! You messed with the wrong person. You hurt her!” He bellowed and ran towards Monica at such a speed that made my eyes turn in their sockets. I closed them hard, biting my lip, trying to drown out the pain. I heard Monica scream and open my eyes. She was a little way from Lucien and she had her hands out, trying to stop him.

“I should be yours! I spent years loving you!”

“And I spent years searching for her!”

“I’m your mate!”

“She is my mate!” Lucien shouted, and dashed towards Monica who flashed out her claws and ducked, Lucien grabbed her hair and she screamed as her eyes glinted red in the dark.

“I’m the Alpha’s daughter!” She screamed, and he hit her with such force that she rolled to the ground.

“She’s the Lycan Alpha’s mate.” He growled, going for her again, picking her by the collar.

“Why should I bring out my claws, uhn? I am no match for you, you’re just trying to kill me!” She screamed and he hit her face once more. Blood spurted out of Monica’s mouth and she fell to the floor.

I watched in horror, trying to tell Lucien to stop, that he wasn’t meant to hit a girl but my words were just a whisper.

“Stop… stop…” I said softly. Even if he was angry, I wanted to hit Monica with my own hands when I was better. I wanted her to know what she had done and what it had cost her.

Monica jumped to her feet, but Lucien picked her up, and slammed her into a tree. She coughed out dark blood and darker blood raced down the sides of her head.

“Lucien… stop. You’re going too far. This is more than I can take. This is…” She was saying but Lucien took her and hit her hard on the face continuously. So hard that I felt Monica’s neck was going to twist and snap.

“Lucien…” I called, but he was blinded in his rage.

“For all the afflictions you afflicted on her, I will give you a scar that would never heal across the face that you so much prize…”

“Lucien!”

“I warned you! I told you to leave…”

“Are you dumb? Are you stupid? She’s going to die! I already bit her! She’s poisoned, she can’t live anymore. I have achieved my mission and killed that mother-fucking, disgusting, slut of a human!” She screamed, staring right into his face and I watched in horror as Lucien raised his hands to hit her, but only this time, his knuckles weren’t closed, his claws were outstretched, long, sharp, wicked… he wasn’t holding back. He was going to….

Splurt!

Monica’s blood squirted all the way from where she was to where I lay—wet and warm.

Lucien threw her onto the floor and she fell not too far from me.

I saw her face in the moonlight—red, bloodshot eyes, blood over her face, and mouth hanging open. She had a fixed expression of shock on her face and her eyes watched me unblinkingly.

What had just happened? Seconds passed and Monica didn’t move, and then my eyes fell on her bloody neck.

Lucien had torn the entire thing out.

He had killed Monica.
