Chapter 58
Chapter 58
MONICA’S POV
The pen in my hand clattered to her table, and I blinked. It felt like she had been reading my thoughts and seeing through me.
“L…lying?” I asked and couldn’t help stuttering a little. Adria’s eyes went to the pen on the table which had rolled off the floor and then returned to me. “How… how would I lie to you? Why would I lie to you? Like… what exactly would I lie about to you? I don’t understand.” I blurted out, holding a hand to my chest, and trying to look hurt but her expression didn’t soften, nor did it change.
“I don’t think Professor Lucien has girls coming over to his house every single day. Even when I go for lessons without informing him, no single girl ever comes.” She said, and I blinked hard.
“I… I…” I started but didn’t know how to finish it. “I wasn’t lying!” I insisted and she shook her head slowly.
How dare she a lowly human shake her head at me in pity? Who did she think she was?
“Can’t you just tell me the truth? I really hate to think that you’ve probably been lying about other things.” She said, and I realized if things went south then I might not even have another chance to try prying them apart again.
“Okay… okay, it was just…” I started and did my best to summon tears. If anything was going to work, then it was my tears.
“Just what?” She asked softly, after seeing my tears fall.
“I just didn’t like him. He was so rude to me when we first met. That didn’t give me a nice impression of him. Anytime he sees me, he always stares down at me like he hates me and I really don’t know why. I haven’t done anything to upset him so why does he hate me so much?” I asked, and she took my hand in hers.
“But you’re still wrong. You yourself spoke about defamation the other day you defended me from those girls. It’s the same thing you did to Luc… Professor Lucien. It’s not cool.” She continued softly, and I swallowed then broke down in fake tears.
“I’m so sorry… I’m so… I just didn’t… I didn’t mean to but I didn’t want you to be with such a mean person.” I continued and she gave me a hug. A hug I detested. Who was she to try to think she was superior?
Later that night, I went out to throw the trash and saw Lucien coming out his door. I really wanted to approach him, but decided not to. I still had a lot of time. I would get him later because I never gave up. Everything I wanted always fell into my hands eventually so he was nothing to fuss about at the moment.
My love and adoration for him definitely couldn’t go to waste.
I dumped the trash and returned to my front porch when I felt him coming towards me. Then I stopped and turned.
“Monica.” He started with a scowl on his handsome face. That scowl which was meant to be for Adria and not for me.
“About time. I wondered why you hadn’t come to me to talk about her. If I’m right, you’re here to talk about Adria, right?” I asked, leaning against my front door.
“I’m here to give you a warning. You don’t mess with me, Monica.”
“Why haven’t you told her how you know me? She still thinks I’m some neighbor who you gave a really bad first impression to.” I remarked with a slight smile, folding my arms.
“If you know what’s best for you, you’ll stop being friends with her. Nothing good will come out of it for you.” He said menacingly, staring at me with such a deep look of hate that it tore right through my heart.
“I’m sorry but I think I choose my friends myself. You have no reason to dictate who I choose to be friends with.” I countered, looking at him with a steely expression.
“If I find out that you’ve been feeding her things…”
“Then what? What would you do?” I asked, kicking off the wall and going to meet him. “What the heck would you do if I’ve been feeding her things? You don’t even want to look at me but you look at her willingly so what the hell am I supposed to do!?” I blurted out without intending to. “Tell me what I’m to do to make you look at me.”
“There’s no need for me to tell you that because even if I tell you and you do it, it would be meaningless. I will never look your way, Monica, so cut the crap and get back to where you came from before things get out of hand.” He retorted with his voice shaking in subtle anger.
“And why should I go back? So, you can enjoy your time with that pesky human? This is a disgrace, Lucien! A disgrace to us! How dare you do this with a human when the better choice has been standing and waiting for you for years!”
“Then wait forever, Monica. You can approach me again once all your teeth have fallen off.” He spat at me, and walked away. I swallowed my burning tears down, trying not to feel it.
He was being impossible, and I wasn’t going to give up. I was going to keep on hunting and hunting him until the end of time. The phrase ‘Wherever there’s a will, there’s a way’ I was going to hold it to my chest. Lucien wouldn’t go free.
Whether he liked it or not, he was going to come begging for my love. He was going to mark me as his mate amidst the gathering of loved ones. All the people that mattered would witness our mating and if possible, Adria herself would.
But at the moment, I had to move further with my new plan.
Since I had been pushed to the corner, I had no choice but to delightfully hurt Adria.
