Chapter 26
Chapter 26
ADRIA'S POV.
I stared into my mother's worry and uncertainty-filled eyes, and wondered why she was so insistent on asking me if I had seen something scary recently.
Of course I had. I had seen Lucius in his beastly form a few days ago, and I had been in the other reality which was even more of a scare for me, especially the last encounter I had with the hooded figure that had taken the breath out of me.
However, I guessed she was probably just worried that I had seen something scary recently that had made my dreams worse, and maybe she was right, maybe she was not, but those things were not bothering me anymore. Infact, I was happy I had seen Lucius in his beastly form. It had made us closer since there was little to hide.
"Mum," I started, reaching for her hand. I held it in mine, and covered it with my other hand, giving her a warm smile. "No one cares for me the way you do, mum, and I understand you're worried, but I assure you that I haven't even screamed in a long while." I assured her, as I tangled my fingers with hers.
"Well, I do believe you. I was just a little bit more worried than usual. Do you want to sleep with mum tonight? We've been apart for quite a number of days, and also, if those nightmares attack you once more, I'll be there to fight them away." She suggested, squeezing my hands, and I laughed.
"Very well. My nightmares had better find someone else's head to camp in for the night. I have my firefighter with me." I commented, playing along.
"Firefighter?" She asked, laughing.
"I meant nightmare fighter." I corrected shiftily and we both burst into laughter.
The next morning, I woke up feeling more energized than ever. I felt free, and ready to deal with whatever came my way that day, and it was also probably because I was going to see Lucien, and because we were probably a thing after the previous sexcapede we had. Just imagine a lecturer and a student, a werewolf and a human.
I swung my feet off the bed, and got up, making my way towards the mirror. I looked into it and smiled.
"Ah, Adria, you look too regular. When are you going to change, and look somewhat more beautiful?" I nagged myself then gave a bright smile.
I sang as I took my bath, then picked out my clothes. Heck, I sang through nearly everything. Even as I had mum's sweet oatmeal for breakfast, I was humming, and tapping my spoon on my tray.
"You seem really happy today, Adria." My mum commented as she brought out a baked pie from the oven. "Oh, gosh, how is there a hole in my mitten?" She asked, dropping the pie on the table immediately.
"Did you get burned?" I asked, whirling around in my chair.
"Almost did, darling, but did not." She said, taking another pair of mittens, and pulling them on.
"Think I can have a taste of that sweet looking beauty?" I flattered, as the delicious smell of the pies floated into my nose.
"Not yet. When you're back from classes, you can try again." She replied like she was enjoying teasing me and I put on a pout.
"I'll do exactly that, but will make sure I bug my friends and let them know how bad of a person you have been. You come home after days and meet your unconscious daughter conscious, but refuse her a slice of pie?" I mumbled, pushing another spoon of oats into my mouth and she laughed.
"Nice try, darling, but this is still going to get to your belly only after you get back from classes." She insisted, and just then, the doorbell rang. We both left our subtle word fight, and leaned to see the door. "I'll get that." She said, taking off her mittens, then striding over towards the door.
When she got there, she clicked on the doorbell camera and let out a sound of delight.
"Oh, look who we've got as visitors." He said, and pulled open the door.
My friends came in with large smiles, and mine was just as wide as theirs.
"Welcome back, ma'am." Stacie said sweetly.
"Oh thank you."
"I hope the journey wasn't too stressful." Daniel asked, and my mum shook her head smiling.
"It wasn't. It was all good." She replied.
"Were you able to get her the drug?" Tommy asked her as they began to walk in, and she nodded, and pointed towards me.
"She walked here herself, and has been running her mouth all morning." My mother said with a smile and Stacie rushed to me. She gave me a bone-crunching hug and it felt like I would be forced to throw up all the oatmeal I had eaten. Then she released me, but held onto my shoulders.
"I'm so happy to see you back on your feet. Yesterday, when you were bedridden and could barely stand, I was so scared. I thought it was the end." She wailed as her eyes watered.
"Oh come on, don't be so dramatic. This doesn't warrant tears." I told her, but she simply shook her head, and then received a knock from Tommy who had gotten to me.
"Ow! Tommy!" She squealed out angrily.
"You look so good and beautiful compared to yesterday." Tommy said ruffling my hair. "Yesterday, you were as ugly as hell." He muttered, but Stacy heard, and kicked him.
"Do you all want some pie?" My mother asked, and my mouth fell open.
"Really?" I asked, then turned to Stacy, and nodded desperately.
"I think I crave some pie." Tommy said dramatically, and Stacy shook her head.
"We'd be honoured to have some." Stacie replied.
"Are you sure you're okay?" Daniel asked as he sat across from me at the table, and I nodded.
"Let me say I've never felt better." I replied to him with a smile because honestly I had truly never felt better. After the shared experience with Lucien, it suddenly felt like my life had just gotten better.
We all ate delicious pie for breakfast and went to school together, talking and laughing about funny things that had happened in school while I was absent, and I didn't even know when we got to school, the four of us had talked the time away.
At school, I waited desperately for history class because my friends didn't leave me for any reason. They felt I would just drop down and faint if they left me so there was really no way I could go and see Lucien, and finally, during history class, Lucien walked in.
I didn't know if I was just naughty or it was something that was bound to happen, but I remembered the way his hands had held me delicately when I saw him. It felt like the whole thing replayed in my head, and before I could stop myself, a faint blush had appeared in my cheeks, and I had a stupid smile on.
Lucien spotted me real quick, and we exchanged eye contact for a brief moment and when he took his eyes off mine, I saw a little smile curl up his lips, and it only made mine wider. He took the attendance and when he called my name, it was softer than he had called any other name, and my heart had gone wild with happiness.
All through the lesson, Lucien and I locked eyes about a million times. I was practically blushing all through the lesson. It was so hard to keep a straight face, and the same went for Lucien. Although he only made the girls go even more crazy for him as they fell for his handsome smile over and over.
After class, I packed my books, throwing them into my bag hastily, so I wouldn't give my friends a chance to tail me once more but…
"Adria! Going somewhere?" Stacy asked excitedly, jumping on me from behind, and my heart fell.
"No. Just wanted…"
"Adria. See me in my office." I suddenly heard Lucien say, looking every bit like a normal professor who wanted to see a student for educational reasons.
"Okay, sir." I answered, and turned to Stacy. Giving her a sad look was quite hard because I wasn't sad at all, but I managed it. "Bye." I said, waving and immediately did my packing so I could leave her sight.
I walked briskly across the halls, trying my very best not to run because honestly, that was all I thought of doing.
I knocked a little on his door before pushing it open, and closing it. When I turned to him, he was smiling.
"Tell me, Adria. Where do you want to go for our first date?" He asked, and I felt the butterflies scatter and start to roam in my belly.
Our first date?
How was it going to be?
What was it going to feel like?
