Chapter 23
Chapter 23
ADRIA'S POV.
My eyes flew open and I looked at saw my friends who were still staring at me with worry, I tilted my head so I could look at my feet. Daniel's hand was on it and he took it off immediately he realized I was staring at it.
"I'm sorry. I thought you wanted to sleep for days again." He apologized, raising his hand, and tears came to my eyes. I began to cry. What had happened to me?
"Something is wrong with me." I cried out to them. "Something is wrong with me." I repeated, crying hard. Why was I made to go through all that? What had I gone through all that? I hadn't offended anyone, nor had I stuck my nose up in anyone's business. I was always on my own or with my friends so why did I have to experience all that?
Water rolled down the corners of my eyes down to my ears, and I shivered when they trickled inside, but I didn't stop crying.
"Adria. Adria, honey what's wrong?" Stacy asked, taking my hand and looking like she was in trouble.
"I feel it. Something is terribly wrong with me." I lamented, still sobbing.
"Maybe you need some sleep. It would…" Tommy was saying but bit his lip, and Danny hit his shoulder.
"She hasn't been awake for days and you want her to go to sleep?" He lashed out, and Stacy wiped the tears off the sides of my face.
"What's wrong? Tell us. Why would you wake and cry? Was it a bad dream?" She asked softly as she arranged my hair next.
"It's… it's nothing." I said, sniffing and wiping my nose. The weakness I felt was overwhelming. It felt like it sat on my bones making it such a job to move them—Moving my hand to my nose had been a lot.
"You awoke crying and it's nothing?" Tommy asked, hitting my arm gently and but Stacy and Daniel covered him in ounces.
"Hey!" He shouted, but they literally pushed him off his chair. "Ow! Gosh! She didn't exclaim in pain like I did. She didn't even exclaim at all!" He yelled as he rubbed his butt, and I smiled a little. I was finally awake.
Tommy stood up looking at me with a furrow in his brows. He was up to something. There was som…
Just as I was thinking, he suddenly pushed me and ran out the door.
"Hey!" Stacy shouted and went after him laughing while Daniel put his hand to his forehead with a sigh. Then he looked at me.
"Are you really okay?" He asked and I nodded.
There was no way I could explain what had happened to them. They wouldn't understand. There was just no way they could understand. But then…
Something came to mind.
Maybe there was someone who would understand, who could understand.
Maybe there was someone who could provide an answer.
Maybe there was someone who knew about mysterious things like that.
Maybe the some0ne was Lucien.
I sighed, and Daniel took my hand.
"You know you can talk to us anytime—Anyone of us." He assured me, giving my hand a little squeeze and I smiled warmly at him.
"It was just a really terrible njghtmare." I told him, and he nodded.
"I guess nightmares can do that." He replied and just then Stacy and Tommy came in laughing.
"I'm going to sue you. You just wait." Tommy was saying.
"And I'm going to pay whatever amount they're asking me to." Stacy replied haughtily.
"Woah! What's with the hand holding? You guys filming Juliet on a sick bed and Romeo by her side?" Tommy joked, and even I couldn't resist laughing.
"No. We're playing doctor and patient. I'm checking her pulse." Daniel said, raising my hand.
"I see you're a doctor who checks people's pulses through their fingers." Tommy commented, and he and Stacy giggled.
"Oh come on, cut it out." Daniel said, rolling his eyes.
"I'm just so happy you're awake. You've been sleeping for days now. Even Professor Lucien asked of you." Stacy informed me.
"Oh, he did." I stated uncomfortably.
"You seem a little…" Tommy was saying but I cut in.
"What about my mum? Is she in? Does she know I'm awake?" I asked, trying to sit up but I couldn't as I felt too tired.
"Uh… your mum went to get more drugs for you, she's yet to return so the neighbour has been taking care of you." Stacy explained, and I sighed. The person I really wanted to see at the moment was my mother.
Later in the evening, my friends left saying they'd be back early in the morning and I nodded. It had been so hard to walk so I just leaned against my window and waited for them to show up outside the house before waving. After they had left, I fell back to my bed, and unbelievably, I slept.
The next time I woke, I awoke somewhere dark, I immediately stood up, and looked around me.
"No, this is not happening. This is not happening." I muttered to myself as I moved back. I was in Lucien's basement. What was I doing there? Why were they doing all this to me? Why all the nightmares? I already had enough nightmares every night so why did they wish to add more? Who were they?
Even though I knew it was a nightmare, I couldn't help but feel terrified. I heard a rattling sound and looked towards the treasure box from where the sound came.
Then weird, cackling laughter began to come from the same box and my heart froze, and so did every part of me as my eyes remained fixed to the box.
I wanted to look away but I couldn't, and slowly, a began to rise out of the box, and I screamed a piercing scream. I woke up gasping for breath with my mouth and eyes wide open. My hand went to my raging chest and held it, willing it to stop it's outrageous beating.
"Ah…." I exclaimed softly and turned to turn on my bedside lamp only to see another me next to me. The girl always in my dreams. Her neck was cocked to the side and she had a dead look in her eyes.
"I am you… you are me… I am you… you are me..." She rattled out, and kept on repeating it till the words echoed loudly in my head.
Was it a dream?
Was It reality?
Dream? Reality?
Then I came to a conclusion: Something was really wrong with me.
