Chapter 16: The Amnesia, Car Accident, and Cancer 3-Piece Set – Very Popular in China
This trip back to China was only for a short period of time. After just a few days, Jiang Youzhen packed his luggage and boarded a flight back to New York.
Before takeoff, he received various messages from Columbia Pictures on his phone, indicating that he would have to rush to reshoot scenes when he got back.
Since he had already signed the contract and couldn't refuse, Jiang Youzhen didn't mind too much.
Upon returning to New York, the first thing he did was meet with the production company. After everything was settled, he arranged his time to report to the school.
Before the official start of the school year, the original director, Sam, met with Kang Woo-jin. Everyone thought they were going to talk about reshoots, but to their surprise, everyone at the dinner was an actor except for Sam.
Mads Wu was also there, chatting with a man he knew somewhat. When he saw his son appear, he quickly waved for him to come over.
"Anders, you've finally decided to come back home. Dad's going to introduce you to a friend, Daniel Craig."
Sitting next to Mads-Wu was a refined and mature man dressed in retro style. Daniel Craig might be an unfamiliar name, but after Mads-Wu introduced him, Kang Woo-jin understood.
"So, Dad, you met this Mr. Craig at an audition? And, moreover, at an audition for James Bond?"
Mads-Oh explained to Kang Woo-jin that he met Daniel when he went to London for auditions with a group of male actors. The name "James Bond" is familiar to everyone. Mads-Oh naturally couldn't compete with these British male actors, but he successfully got the production company, Columbia Pictures, to agree to let him play the villain role in the preliminary selection.
That's right... another villain.
"It's good news, actually. The movie is still in the pre-production stage, and your dad has already landed the role. Even James Bond hasn't been decided yet, but Dad thinks Daniel will definitely win."
Hearing this, Daniel was very pleased, but he still smiled modestly and waved his hand, "Mads, you're exaggerating. There are several production companies involved this time. It's not certain until the very end. Besides, Henry Cavill is currently the frontrunner."
"Ah~ Henry, he's only a few years older than my Anders. He's too young to play James Bond," Mads Wu shook his head slightly.
Judging from his appearance, Henry Cavill was indeed the best candidate—handsome, strong, and with expressive eyes—but unfortunately, he was still too young.
Daniel may not be as striking in appearance as Henry, but his advantage lies in his maturity and lack of ruggedness compared to the others.
James Bond is a mature, elegant, and powerful agent. Unfortunately, Mads Wu is proficient in everything, even good-looking and charismatic, but he loses out because of his British citizenship.
Sitting next to his father, Kang Woo-jin, through Mads-Oh's introduction, met many actors who had worked with Columbia Pictures before, and those he was about to work with.
Many of them are relatively unknown actors, or those with only one or two well-known works. Their purpose in attending this dinner is to expand their network and, incidentally, inquire about any new projects.
This meal was anything but simple; it didn't end until late at night.
The father and son returned to the apartment. Looking at the clean, tidy, and fragrant luxury apartment, Mads Wu smiled happily.
"Anders, it's all thanks to you. With you here, Dad doesn't feel like the house he bought is a doghouse anymore."
"Dad, since you yourself said this is a doghouse, could you please not leave your clothes and socks lying around next time?"
Seeing that Mads-Oh was about to take off his socks and throw them aside again, Kang Woo-jin put his hands on his hips and glared at him.
.....
Mads Wu awkwardly took the socks back and chuckled, "Well, I'm used to it. By the way, my agent asked me today if I'm planning to rewrite a movie script. That guy got a taste of success before, so if I have a new project, I should consider Columbia Pictures first."
Mads Wu was both angry and helpless when he thought about how his former agent had used his access to his son to buy the film's distribution rights for a low price.
Fortunately, his son received a share of the profits and royalties from the production of the second and third films; otherwise, the old father would have been driven to illness by anger.
"I do have some new ideas, but we're still preparing," Jiang Youzhen nodded, gave a few casual replies, and went back to his room.
Before closing the door, he reminded his father to take a shower and to put his change of clothes in the washing machine.
Back in his room, Jiang Youzhen noticed a new unread message on his phone. It was from China and quite long.
The number was labeled as Kim Ji-yong, but the message was sent by Kim Tae-yeon. Due to the time difference, the two communicated much less, and when they did, it was just a short text message like this.
After replying to the message, Jiang Youzhen sat down at the table, turned on his computer, and began creating.
Not long after, Mads-Oh knocked on the door. His elderly father, who had already taken a bath, walked into the room in his home clothes. He brought milk and fruit to Kang Woo-jin and couldn't help but be curious when he saw his son working on a new script.
"What is the genre of your new work?"
"I had previously considered making a haunted house-themed horror film in the style of a documentary."
"Another horror movie... in documentary style, huh? Who are you trying to scare to death?"
Mads Wu looked puzzled. He didn't mind that his son's creative direction was so strange, but when he thought that Jiang Jingshu was also an expert in this field, he shut up.
"It's just an idea. Most horror films in the past have featured female protagonists who are either prey or hunters. The main characters in horror films have also been female. I have an idea: a documentary that is so realistic that any character is prey."
"A plausible plot that creates a sense of psychological fear doesn't need much buildup. Perhaps some classic horror elements, like a mental hospital, could be used."
As they talked, Jiang Youzhen noticed that Mads-Oh's expression was becoming increasingly strange, so he couldn't help but ask, "Dad, are you even listening to me?"
"Hmm? Ah... I heard that, cough cough." Just as Mads Wu was still pondering this in his heart, he suddenly came back to his senses and sighed, "Anders, you're still young, perhaps you should try other genres."
"What else could it be? To switch careers like Mom and write those melodramatic romance dramas? Amnesia, car accidents, and cancer—the three-part formula is incredibly popular in China."
...
Knowing he couldn't persuade him, Mads Wu simply stopped trying. He put down the fruit and milk, gently told his son to go to bed early, and immediately ran out.
