Chapter 87: Are there any hot springs?
Chapter 87: Are there any hot springs?
Watching "Country Love" as a child, Su Yu has always had a romanticized view of rural Northeast China and a fascination with the heated brick beds (kang).
Unfortunately, their accommodation was no different from a regular hotel, except that the heating was on very high, and Su Yu fell asleep soon after lying on the bed.
The convoy set off early the next morning, before dawn. There was still a distance to travel from the town to the filming location in the mountains, requiring the crew to travel up the winding mountain road in their off-road vehicles.
The higher you go, the thicker the snow becomes, and the pine trees on both sides of the road are also covered with snow. Their branches are bent over by ice crystals and sparkle in the sun.
Dilraba sat in the back seat, constantly taking pictures with her phone, both of the outside of the car and of Su Yu beside her.
"This is so beautiful! Su Yu, look at that tree! Look at that cloud! Look at that snow!!"
Su Yu looked in the direction Reba pointed, and the snow-covered mountains looked especially beautiful in the sunlight. He couldn't help but ask Yang Mi on the other side to open the car window and take a deep breath of air.
"Are you done yet? I told you two you're acting like you're on vacation, especially Dilraba, get your minds on it!"
After being scolded by her boss, Dilraba immediately became as obedient as a primary school student.
But Yang Mi couldn't care less about Su Yu. Seeing Reba's discomfiture, Su Yu couldn't resist teasing her, pointing out the scenery outside the car window. Reba only dared to glance up, her face turning red with frustration. She whispered stubbornly in Su Yu's ear:
"Su Yu, you just wait!"
Su Yu smiled and whispered in her ear:
"What are you waiting for?"
Dilraba's little ears turned bright red. Su Yu tried to tease her again, but she turned her face to the side of the car window and ignored him.
"Hiss~"
Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through his thigh. Su Yu was about to speak when Yang Mi coughed twice, interrupting him:
"That's enough for you two."
Su Yu turned his head to look over and was glared at fiercely by Yang Mi.
Lu Han sat in the passenger seat, wearing sunglasses and a down jacket, without saying a word, as if she were asleep.
When the car reached the halfway point of the mountain, the driver stopped to let everyone stretch their legs. Dilraba was the first to jump off the car, squatted by the roadside, made a snowball, and then looked back at Su Yu, who was about to get off the car, with a mischievous smile on her lips.
"Hmph, Su Yu, take this!"
Su Yu dodged to the side, and the snowball flew past his shoulder, hitting Yang Mi's down jacket as she got out of the car.
Yang Mi looked down at the snow stains on her clothes, then looked up, her eyes widening:
"Reba!"
Su Yu grinned mischievously at Dilraba's utterly dejected expression and said to Yang Mi behind him:
"Honey, do you need any help?"
"Hey! This isn't fair! What are you guys doing?! Two against one?! Lu Han, help me!"
However, no one responded to her. Lu Han had been asleep the whole way and was probably still asleep.
With the combined efforts of Yang Mi and Su Yu, Dilraba was completely subdued and obediently followed Yang Mi into the car like a little follower.
After exercising, Su Yu felt his muscles and bones finally loosen up, and his condition was surprisingly good.
"It's so hot, phew~"
As Yang Mi spoke, she pulled at her down jacket, a few strands of hair sticking to her forehead with sweat, making her look exceptionally charming, which made Su Yu somewhat lost in thought.
Yang Mi seemed to notice his gaze as well. After exchanging a glance, Su Yu casually looked away and went back to teasing Dilraba.
Yang Mi saw everything, but she was furious. "You brat, you're just watching!"
When the car arrived at the filming location, the set had already been almost completely set up by the crew who had arrived earlier.
The lighting crew was laying out equipment in the snow, the camera crew was already adjusting their equipment, and the production crew had put up windbreaks between several old pine trees.
They got up before dawn. Su Yu thought they had arrived quite early and even had time to rest on the way. He didn't expect the crew to have already arrived and set up the venue.
Zheng Baorui and Luo Yongchang stood behind the monitor, stamping their feet incessantly. The two were dressed even more extravagantly than the actors, both wearing military overcoats and, to blend in with the local customs, wearing old-fashioned Lei Feng hats from Northeast China, with furry earmuffs on their ears.
Su Yu got out of the car, stepped into a layer of fine snow, took a deep breath, and felt the cold air rush into his lungs.
Reba had already recovered, but seeing the snowy scenery, she became excited again. She skipped and jumped after Su Yu, holding up her phone, and insisted on taking a group photo of Yang Mi and Su Yu in the snow.
Yang Mi cooperated by standing to Su Yu's left and making a peace sign, while Dilraba stood to Su Yu's right, holding up her phone to find the right angle, constantly telling Su Yu to move a little to the left, a little to the right, and to smile. After a while, she finally pressed the shutter.

In the photo, the faces of the three people are slightly red from the cold, with white snow-capped mountains and green pine forests behind them, but the smiles in their eyes cannot be hidden.
When Luo Yongchang and Zheng Baorui saw that the group had arrived, they came over and told them to warm up their hands and feet, emphasizing that safety was the top priority and that it would be difficult to explain if they fell.
Filming on location is definitely much more tiring than shooting in a studio, especially in this freezing weather.
The crew's work was exceptionally difficult, as they had to clean up footprints after each take due to the unpredictable movement in the snow.
The temperature was too low, and the camera would sometimes malfunction and stop working, and the battery would wear out quickly.
When it's windy, the sound crew practically want to stuff the microphones into their clothes.
Everything left Luo Yongchang and Zheng Baorui somewhat exhausted.
The other staff and actors were also somewhat tired.
The only thing that made them happy was that Su Yu was still in a very stable condition, subtly leading the entire crew forward in the snow. Even though there were some minor mishaps along the way, the overall filming progress was not affected at all.
Whether it's a solo action scene or a long shot of walking side-by-side with Lu Han in the snow valley, Su Yu almost always nails it in one take.
Luo Yongchang sat behind the monitor all day, and finally let out a long sigh of relief at the end:
"Luckily, we had Su Yu around, so the progress wasn't delayed."
Zheng Baorui nodded in agreement: "If you ask me, Su Yu is a born actor! I'll definitely consider him first if there's a role in the future!"
After another bumpy ride, the group returned to the hotel at the foot of the mountain. This time, everyone was quiet on the way. A day's work had completely drained them, and now they just wanted to go back and rest.
"Oh? Right."
Halfway through the journey, Su Yu suddenly had a flash of inspiration and asked:
Are there any hot springs nearby?
The driver, who had been silent the whole way, finally spoke up:
"There are no hot springs, but there is a bathing area where we are staying."
Hearing this answer, Su Yu nodded in satisfaction.
Taking a bath is great! He loves taking a bath. After a long day in the freezing cold, what could be more relaxing than a bath?
