70. Hold on
70. Hold on
Darian instructed the soldiers to unlock the gates that shielded the dark room. He espied Lena from the parts of the gates that weren't covered, but he didn't see her face.
The soldiers hauled the chains off, falling them to the floor. Lena flinched in fear when she heard the boisterous sound the chains produced as they met the floor.
She turned her back towards the entrance and the lights came on at that moment. She saw her husband standing there, his eyes on her, he looked so broken.
She attempted to rush towards him and bury her face in his embrace, but she had been tied down. Luckily, she was mildly tortured, just slight bruises marred her smooth face, Darian's chest burned as he walked in to meet his wife.
"Leave us," he commanded the soldiers.
They bowed their heads and immediately trudged out of the dark room.
"Darian," she drawled, her voice had lost its pitch and she looked sick like she'd pass out anytime soon. "I didn't do it," she sobbed, tears streaming down her face.
"I know, Lena," he looked away from her. He was truly confused and didn't know who and what to believe. "How are you?" He asked.
"I am not fine, you have to help me out. Help me prove my innocence." Lena whimpered softly, still trying to get herself off the chains that held her down to the chair.
Darian loosened the chain a bit, when he was certain they weren't too tight on her, he let go.
"I know you didn't do it," he bent to her level, cupping her face, he kissed the top of her head and closed his eyes. "I know you didn't do it."
"Someone is behind this," Lena said. "Someone wants to drag my name in the mud, I would never think of poisoning someone's wine. I can never hurt a human, I can't do that, Darian." Tears rushed down her face in folds, Darian hated to watch her cry. It hurt him too.
"Lena, you have to relax, okay? It breaks my heart that I can't do anything. I wish I could do something to get you out of here." He said through gritted teeth, his hand tightly gripping Lena's. He didn't want to let go of her, watching her in that state broke his heart. "Who gave you the wine to serve?" He inquired.
"The wines were arranged at the bar counter and I was told to serve the men. No one gave them to me, they were arranged according to everyone's preferences. I just served them." She explained to him. "What happened to Gaius, was it poison?"
"Yes, Polonium poison was found in his system. And you served the wine, everyone suspects you." He told her, heaving a tired sigh.
"Polonium poison? I know well that everyone will suspect me, but Darian, you trust that I didn't do it right?" She looked at him, the tears didn't stop rushing. It got worse, and Darian raised his thumb to wipe the tears off her eyes. "Will I be killed?"
"Lena, calm down. I will see to this. I will get you out of here, I just want you to hold on for me, I won't let you stay here for long." He kissed her hands and she bobbed her head. She trusted her husband. "I will order the soldiers to stop torturing you. You don't look healthy,"
"Darian, you can't stop them from torturing me. I understand that you're helpless here. I am the prime suspect because I served the wine." Her eyes fluttered shut, tears dripping down and falling onto Darian's palm.
"Now, I feel so useless. I am the Don but I can't even help my wife out of here." He shook his head.
"That's because your wife almost killed the godfather of the Dawson family. Have you told her that Gaius is in a coma and there is a low percent chance that he'd come out alive? Have you told her yet?" Judson stepped in, towering above Lena who was glaring at him.
She remembered the day she had an encounter with him. She smelled trouble. Could this be his revenge? She thought as Judson stared at her with bloodshot eyes. She gulped hard, regretting what she did to him that day, she should have ignored and passed.
"If someone else were to be the one in Lena's position. I know what you will do, Darian. And that's exactly what I will let them do to her. Severely Torture her until she confesses." Judson spat angrily at them.
"Judson, I didn't poison Gaius. I don't have any reason to do that." Lena protested, raising her voice as she exchanged words with Judson.
"You have reasons to poison him. You know Gaius is so good he'd beat your husband. So you poisoned his drink to stop him from playing. Does that not make sense? You've always gone around the casino teaching the women rubbish that they shouldn't know. You're not interested in the things that happen here. Your main aim from the onset was to kill Gaius. Now I understand it better when they talk about having enemies within. You've been the one all this while. This time, you won't go scot-free, you will confess to all your crimes and the people behind this with you."
Lena wasn't the type to get scared over threats, but Judson's threats sent cold shivers down her spine. She looked up at Darian who had a scowl on his face.
He let go of her hands and straightened up, he shot a deadly glare at Judson.
"Leave us alone, I am talking to my wife." He yapped at Judson.
Judson sneered, "Darian, I want you to know that you have no authority here, everyone must be punished accordingly. You can't let the soldiers go easy on her because she's your wife."
"She didn't do it, don't you get it?" Darian was irked, he was close to hitting Judson.
"She didn't do it? How do you know she didn't? And why do I feel like you have a hand in this, Darian? Who knows? You two might plan it out and she takes the blame for you…"
Darian clenched his fists and punched Judson's mouth without hesitation. "How dare you?" He snarled, punching him so hard that he sent him to the floor.
Judson lumbered up and attacked Darian, he retorted by giving him a hard thwack on his face when he wasn't guiding. "Fuck you, Darian." He dodged his punch.
"Please stop this, Darian!" Lena yelled out when he raised his hand to hit Judson again. "Please stop hitting him."
He lowered his hand, biting his lips, he tasted blood. "Get out of here, Judson."
"Who are you to think you can command me?" Judson caressed his swollen face. "I will go now but that's because I don't want to start another brawl with you." He said, turning to Lena, he jerked his fingers at her and smiled wickedly. "You will remain here for a long time, I promise you." He veered away, his feet heavily slapping the floor as he walked out of the room.
"Are you okay?" Lena asked Darian when Judson was gone. "Darian, you didn’t have to fight him."
"That bastard," he cussed, crouching down to hold Lena. "His threats are nothing, okay? I will make sure that this case is thoroughly investigated and you will get out of here in no time, I give you my words, Lena." He took her hands and intertwined their fingers.
"I know, Darian." Hot tears tickled her eyes. "Will Gaius be fine?" She asked, fear evident in her shaky voice. "How are Talia and Gaby too?"
"He's in a coma, we hope he will wake up soon." He said. "I have to go out there to work on this, will you be fine?"
"No," she shook her head.
"Lena, I will get you out." He kissed her hands. He called the soldiers in, "do not lay a finger on her." He commanded them. They all bowed their heads to show respect.
"I will get your stuff from the house and come back here for you."
"Thank you, Darian."
"Hold on, I will be back." He kissed her forehead and left the room.
When Darian was gone, the soldiers in charge of the dark room pulled the chains tightly over her.
"What are you doing?" She winced as they held her down with the chains.
"Do you think we will go easy on you because you are Don's wife?" One of them slapped her hard on the face.
Lena stared at them in shock, they just went against Darian's orders.
"You murderer!" Another one yelled from behind her. "Torture her," he commanded the one who slapped her before.
"Next time you won't mess with a member of the Dawson family." He barked, hitting Lena with a rod. She yelped out in pain when the rod landed on her back.
"Harder,"
"Help me, please, I didn't do it." She cried bitterly as they hit her with the rod.
She was helpless, the pain was unbearable and she didn't want to go through this for days. She cried, she needed to get out of here, but how would she?
"Don't go easy on her, that's Judson's order and that's what we would adhere to." One of them said.
Oh my gosh!
This is so hard for me to take in, I hate that Lena's been subjected to this much pain and Darian can't do anything to help her because he has to obey the family rules.
This breaks my heart so much.
